Chapter 16: 16. The Witcher Master and Night Succubus's Thousand and One Nights.

"Isn't the Quen sign very simple? Have you all mastered it?"

Vesemir asked as he casually dispelled the light membrane from his body with a wave of his right hand.

As soon as Vesemir finished speaking, the apprentices' complaints started to rise one after another.

Hughes complained, "How can it be that fast? I haven't even found where my mutated organ is yet."

Fred and Bond also echoed his sentiments. Although they were slightly better off than Hughes, they had only just located their mutated organs.

How could anyone master a sign so quickly?

"Hahaha, then you all need to work harder."

"I've taught many apprentices who could learn a sign within a day."

"If any of you can learn Quen within a day, I will..."

Vesemir was about to make a promise when he suddenly remembered that one apprentice had yet to speak. So he quickly interrupted himself and nonchalantly asked, "Allen, have you mastered it?"

Allen replied without hesitation, "Yes."

He decided not to hide his abilities anymore. Last night, he had pondered for a long time about how to leave the castle and hunt drowners. He finally concluded that his only path was through Vesemir. Tomorrow would be another "Monstrum" and practical combat class, so Vesemir would definitely leave Kaer Morhen today.

"Have you really mastered it?" Vesemir adjusted his hat in disbelief.

Allen didn't say anything. He followed the knowledge in his mind, bent his thumb and little finger, brought his middle and ring fingers together, and drew a triangle in front of him. A faint yellow light flashed briefly.

The room fell silent.

Hughes instinctively mimicked Allen's movements, bending his fingers and forming the sign.

Nothing happened.

Awkwardly withdrawing his right hand, Hughes glanced around and, seeing that no one was paying attention to him, sighed in relief. A mixture of relief, envy, and frustration filled his mind.

"Why is it so simple for him, but I can't do it?" Hughes thought.

Finally, he couldn't help but exclaim, "Allen, you're amazing!!!"

Others snapped out of their stupor at Hughes's voice.

"Allen, how did you do it? Teach me quickly," Fred asked eagerly.

Bond echoed, looking at Allen with anticipation.

Allen was speechless.

The teacher is right here; do you expect me to teach you?

That would be disrespectful to Vesemir. But Vesemir didn't mind.

After observing for a moment, he extended his index finger and tapped the nearly invisible Quen shield around Allen. With a "pop," the translucent shield shattered almost instantly.

"Although the shield's strength is still weak, the magical distribution is even, and the casting speed is not slow," Vesemir assessed. "This Quen sign is qualified."

If Vesemir hadn't taken over these apprentices after their Trial of the Grasses, he would have doubted whether Allen had already learned it in advance.

How could someone learn it right after the lesson without any practice?

It was truly extraordinary.

Looking at Allen's expressionless face, waiting for his evaluation, Vesemir couldn't help but reflect: "How many times has it been now? Being astounded by an apprentice's extraordinary talent."

"It's time to check that experimental record in the library. Are all apprentices with Witcher Eyes like Allen?"

"How could such Witchers disappear without a trace?"

Pushing the apprentices back into their places, Vesemir praised, "Allen, your Quen sign is qualified."

"Is this considered qualified? A shield that breaks with a single poke is useless," Bond couldn't help but question.

"Shallow thinking!"

Vesemir put away his smile: "Being able to cast a sign is just the first step; physical fitness is the ultimate key to a sign's strength."

"You have just undergone the Trial of the Grasses, and your mutated tissues have not yet fully integrated."

"After the potions are mixed, the strength of all signs will undergo a significant leap, especially the Quen sign, which can withstand two to three attacks from drowners," Vesemir explained.

After explaining this, Vesemir kindly looked at Allen and said, "Allen, today's lesson on signs is only about Quen. You are now free to go."

"Wow!"

The apprentices looked at Allen enviously, thinking he was about to leave.

However, Allen shook his head and requested to Vesemir, "Master Vesemir, I have one request."

"What is it?" Vesemir asked.

Allen organized his words, "Yesterday morning, I heard you and Letho were going outside to catch drowners."

"I want to go with you."

Curiously, Vesemir asked, "Why?"

"I want to hunt more drowners and familiarize myself with their attack patterns," Allen paused for a moment, then honestly admitted, "The Trial of the Mountains is coming soon, and I'm afraid I won't even pass the first stage."

Upon hearing about the Trial of the Mountains, Vesemir subconsciously looked at the other three apprentices who had been chatting quietly.

Their moods visibly dampened upon hearing Allen's words. The Trial of the Mountains was the last big challenge hanging over their heads. Which apprentice hadn't had nightmares about dying during the trial?

Finally, Vesemir sighed lightly in his heart and agreed to Allen's request.

"Letho and I were originally planning to go catch drowners this afternoon."

"However, since you want to come, we can change the time to evening."

"After you finish your classes this afternoon, come directly here, and we'll depart together."

"Okay, Master Vesemir," Allen responded immediately.

Seeing everything unfold as he had imagined, Allen breathed a sigh of relief. He had intended to stay and assist Vesemir in teaching the apprentices, but he was quickly asked to leave.

The reason given was that it would disrupt the other apprentices' classes.

Allen accepted this reason and left obediently. However, that evening, Hughes told Allen that he, Bond, and Fred all agreed that Allen's teaching skills were much better than Vesemir's.

...

After leaving the apprentice training ground, Allen hesitated between the library and the alchemy room before choosing the library. It wasn't yet time for the appointment with the sorceress. Besides, not only was Vesemir curious about what a Witcher's eyes were like, Allen was also very curious.

He needed this information to figure out how to disguise himself in the future. The library and the alchemy room were both in the inner area of Kaer Morhen, located in towers on either side of the main castle. One was in the northern tower, and the other in the eastern tower.

When Allen arrived at the library, the door was open. He peered inside.

Huge.

That was Allen's first impression of the Wolf School's library. Although it couldn't compare to libraries from his previous life, looking in from the doorway, the dark wooden bookshelves stretched row after row, seemingly endless. Before coming here, Allen had thought the library would be about the same size as the alchemy room.

Inside the library was only a young man in a black robe.He wore glasses and held a book, sitting at the doorway, deeply engrossed in reading. He didn't even notice Allen approaching.

"Hello," Allen greeted softly.

The man remained immersed in the world of his book, not looking up. Allen could only knock on his table, raising his voice and calling out again.

"Hello, I'm here to find the experimental records..."

"Bang!"

Startled by Allen's reminder, the man flung the book upwards.

If Allen's perception hadn't been significantly enhanced earlier that morning, the book would have almost hit him in the face. Swiftly catching the book, Allen couldn't help but joke to himself, "Who knew the first time I'd benefit from enhanced perception wouldn't be in battle."

As he set the book down, Allen glanced at its title:

The Witcher Master and Night Succubus's Thousand and One Nights

Allen: "?"
