Chapter 111: Serial Killer (10)

Edited by: Kuro and Lille

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just as Grey predicted, there were 25 body parts. It was an odd number because they found one of Brittany's lungs and one of Mr. Miller's lungs together. It formed a heart shape when they took it out of the ground. Quite disgusting.
The heads were the last to be found, signifying the end of their treasure hunt—especially the snowflakes on their foreheads. Putting the body parts together, everyone could see how precise and meticulous the killer was. Even the way he made the snowflakes was almost identical to the others. The only difference was the size, but other than that, it was completely symmetrical like he used a machine to make the tattoo.
When they looked at the map to see where all the parts were hidden, Myles' name was spelled out on the map. It made everyone want to shiver in disgust. Only Dr. Mia felt like it would be romantic if it weren't body parts they had to find...
Again, she was weird.
A couple of days after they finished the treasure hunt, Grey received another letter. This time, it came to his apartment door. It was unfortunate that the moment he arrived home, he would have to see another letter from the killer.
He took out some gloves that he always kept in his pocket and opened it.
There wasn't much in the letter.
I told you that you are only mine. You should've heeded my warning.
And that was it. Even though there wasn't much, it still made him feel anxious. Like something horribly wrong was going to happen.
It was still early morning, but his plans to catch up on sleep were thrown out the window. He put the letter into a plastic bag and then got himself ready. He cleaned himself up, changed his contacts, and then rushed out the door with the letter in his hand.
When he arrived at the police station, Caleb and the Agents were standing around Dr. Hendrick. Dr. Hendrick looked a bit tired and worn out. Everyone could see he was worried.
Everyone's eyes lit up when they saw Grey.
"Myles, we were just about to call you," Caleb exclaimed as he walked over. He saw Myles holding a Ziploc bag. "Is that another letter?"
Grey nodded. "Yeah. When I got home, I found it in front of my door. I came here as soon as I finished changing my clothes and stuff. Why were you all waiting for me?"
Dr. Hendrick pulled on Grey's sleeve like a lost puppy. "Myles, you have to be honest with me, did you see Dr. Reynolds yesterday?"
Hearing his name being called by the Doc he always joked around with, he knew something seriously wrong happened.
"Last night, I had dinner with Dr. Reynolds. I dropped him off at home and then I went back to the station to finish my report. When I finished this morning, I went back home and found this letter. Did something happen to Dr. Reynolds?"
"Crap. I told Dr. Reynolds to come in this morning to help me finish up the reports and put the bodies back together, but he never showed up. I called him many times, but none of it went through. I also tried texting him but there was no reply. I heard you two went out for dinner, so I thought maybe he spent the night together with you and he just forgot, or something..." Dr. Hendrick was pacing as he spoke. He was so worried that he wanted to bite his nails, but that was a habit he had gotten rid of a long time ago. He didn't want to start again.
Hearing that, Grey's heart couldn't stop beating a mile a minute. He felt like his whole world was sinking in.
He quickly took out the letter and opened it. He looked at it but there was nothing else in the letter unless...
Myles quickly went to his desk and turned on his little lamplight. Everyone was startled but he ignored their stares. He put the letter up to the light and waited. It only took a moment before words started to appear below the typed sentence.
He then read the letter in his head:
Dear Myles,
For you to see this... I knew you were smart but you really exceeded my expectations each time.
Not only are you smart, but you are also brave. You always had the courage that I have always wanted, the courage that I have always lacked. You shine so brightly, like the northern star, but this world is so cruel to you. They want to take out your shine and leave you in the dust.
Don't worry. Even if the world forgets about you, you will always be on my mind and inside my heart.
Ah, I guess I should get to the point of this letter. I told you that you were only mine, but you didn't listen. That's why I have Dr. Reynolds. I've seen the way you look at him and the way he looks at you. Did you think I wouldn't notice even if you didn't establish your relationship with him? How foolish.
If you want to find him, you must follow the clue at the bottom of this letter. Don't worry, I won't kill him or you, but you must exchange yourself for him. If you come home with me, I will stop the killings. We could finally be together, forever, just the two of us.
From,
Your Secret Admirer
P.S. Here's the clue:
In a warehouse by the ocean, where the ships come in and out, ah, you poor soul. You fell for the wrong man and now you are tied up in a chair, in the middle of the warehouse with a gun to your head. Hopefully, Myles will come in and save you soon.
Well, I am sure you will find him faster than your peers. Only you and I will understand.
According to System 225, the warehouse was the same warehouse where the original was last seen. It was also the place where the camera signals had come from.
Grey immediately handed the letter to Agent Freddy and began to equip himself. He put a gun under his coat, at his back, and one at his hip. He put a knife in his boot and then he made sure the tracker on his underwear was working. Luckily, he had just charged it, so he didn't have to worry about it.
Before he could even run out, Caleb stopped him. "Even if you know where he is, you can't just rashly go out and meet the killer! What happens if something goes wrong?"
"Caleb is right. We can't go there without preparations. We don't even know where this warehouse is. There are many at that harbor and there are a dozen harbors in the country alone. What happens if he isn't in the harbor in this city?" Agent Freddy's concerns were right. There were many harbors in the country and the biggest one was in the city.
'System, send me an anonymous text dating to the beginning of the treasure hunt, just before I found the letter on my desk. Don't write any words, just text me a picture of the location of the warehouse.'
[Got it, Grey. It has been done.]
'Thanks.'
"I understand your concerns, but I have the warehouse on my phone."
He showed everyone the picture of the map. It had a circle around a warehouse at the harbor in the city.
"I didn't think too much of it because I got this text message the day I found the letter for the 'treasure hunt.' I totally forgot about it and it wasn't until he mentioned the warehouse that I remembered I was given a map of where it was at the start."
Everyone stared at his phone, feelings were complex but they knew this was signifying the end of the crazy goose chase.
"You can't leave just yet. I know you are worried, but since we have the location, preparations will be quicker."
Agent Freddy immediately snapped out of his trance and started ordering people. He got the agents, the police officers, and even the SWAT team to come with. They couldn't underestimate the enemy, so they brought everyone they could, even the bomb team just in case.
They let Grey and Caleb get a head start on going to the location while they followed from a distance.
Grey already resigned himself to being the bait and he didn't want it any other way. He was prepared to go in there, save his lover, and finish the mission. This had been going on for far too long. It was time to end this...
*****
Meanwhile, Dr. Reynolds had just woken up. He found himself, duct-taped to a chair. His legs, torso, and hands were taped, barely leaving him room to breathe. His muscles ached from the position he fell asleep in, and his mind was muddled.
He recalled having a lovely dinner with Myles the night before. They didn't talk much but a romantic atmosphere could be seen with the naked eye. He enjoyed being around Myles and the love-filled look in his eyes. He wanted Myles to be with him all day!
After dinner, Myles drove him home. He had walked to the police station that day as it was close by, so his car was at home. After he saw that Myles had safely gotten into the car and driven off, he turned to go into his apartment. Who knew that the moment he turned around, his vision would turn black and he fell to the ground.
When he woke up, he found himself in a chair, taped up, in the middle of a warehouse. The warehouse itself was kind of empty.
There were a few large boxes that were by the entrance. It made a small pathway to the back of the warehouse. As you got further back, there was nothing but Dr. Reynolds in the chair and a table in front of him. But the table was kind of far. If he wasn't taped up, he would have to pull the chair up a couple of feet just to get his feet under the table.
On the table, there was a water bottle, as if to tempt him with thirst, and a camera facing him. He didn't know if it was recording or taking pictures, but it was unsettling to see it.
There was nobody in the room with him, but it still made him anxious. He tried to position himself in a more comfortable position, but his movements were limited. He moved his hands to try to get them to touch his lower back area, where he usually kept a scalpel. There was a cap on it so he didn't have to worry about cutting himself, but he kept one on him like a good luck charm. It made him feel better knowing it was there, but who knew it would help him in times like this?
As he struggled to grab his scalpel, a man walked in from the front. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was tall and wore a designer suit. If he smiled, he could seduce everyone in the room, regardless of gender, but there was a cold look in his eyes that made people stay away.
"You have finally woken up, Dr. Reynolds." The man's deep voice echoed throughout the warehouse.
Dr. Reynolds looked up and immediately knew the man was the killer they were all looking for. He gave a small smile. "I apologize for sleeping. Did I keep you waiting for too long?"
The man's face immediately became distorted by hearing Dr. Reynolds' nonchalant attitude.
"I don't see what Myles likes about you. You have a mediocre job, an okay face, poor parents, and you aren't that rich yourself. I guess you do have some intelligence since you are a Doctor. You were famous for your miracle surgeries but soon dropped out of that to become a medical examiner. I wonder why?"
Dr. Reynolds felt a little surprised that the man knew his past, but he didn't let it show on his face.
"To indulge you, I didn't originally want to be a doctor, but my parents forced me to. They never said what kind of doctor I had to be, so I picked something that would satisfy both my parents and me."
"A man who is willing to compromise. I guess that is charming in some ways."
The man had already walked up to the desk and picked up the water bottle. "Are you thirsty? I don't have food, but I do have some water."
"As of now, I'm not really that thirsty." He was kind of thirsty, but he didn't want to drink water of unknown origins.
"I see. I will keep this bottle here just in case you get thirsty."
But his arms were tied up, so he would have to degradingly ask for it when the time came.
"I hope Myles doesn't take too long. I'm sure he is looking all over for you." His words sounded hopeful, but there was disdain when he said "you."
"He will come in no time." Dr. Reynolds knew Myles was smart. He had hoped that Myles would find him quickly and they would walk out alive, together.
"Sad to say, if he doesn't come in the next 24 hours, I will kill you. There would be no use for you at that point."
Time was ticking, but Myles was close. He just needed 10 more minutes and he would arrive at the warehouse.
Wait for me, Dr. Reynolds, this husband is coming to save you!
Chapter 112: Serial Killer (11)
Edited by: Kuro and Lille
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It didn't take long for Grey to find the warehouse. He had System 225's help so it seemed like he guided everyone there as if he had been there before. There were no hesitations as he maneuvered through the harbor.

When he opened the warehouse door, he made sure that Caleb stayed hidden while he walked deeper into the building. After passing the large boxes and crates, he found Dr. Reynolds, tied up in a chair with duct tape and a table in front of him.

On the table, a man was sitting, legs crossed, on his phone. He wore a three-piece, black, designer suit, and a red tie. His blonde hair was slicked back, so they could see his well-tamed eyebrows and his beautiful blue eyes. He had the perfect smile, so when he did smile, people couldn't help but think he was a male god.

Seeing the man, he instantly knew he was the CEO of RO Tech, Kyle Reed.

Hearing footsteps, Kyle Reed looked up and smiled. "Myles, you have finally come and you even brought guests with you so quickly. I really underestimated you."

"Caleb, fall back," Myles shouted loud enough for Caleb to hear him.

"But Myles!"

"Fall back and wait for the others!" It was the first time Myles raised his voice at Caleb. "It's dangerous and I want you to be safe, so wait for me."

Caleb clenched his fists and pulled back, leaving through the open entrance of the warehouse where he waited for the others.

Kyle had already known that he brought everyone and they were using him as bait. It was best for everyone to fall back so that it was just him and Kyle.

"I'm really happy that you are here. I've been waiting for this day to come when you and I will meet. It's sad though that we had to meet again in such a way."

Grey hated that Kyle's name was on that face, but he pushed down his dislike. "Kyle, you are the one who made it so we had to meet this way. I probably would've preferred it if we met under different circumstances, like at a restaurant or something." Maybe something a bit more... Normal?

"You... Do you remember me?" Kyle's face was astonished.

"Of course I do. You were my precious friend from the orphanage. Even though we have aged, you still share similar qualities to the boy who followed me around."

"If you remember me, then why did you ignore me at that party? You walked past me, without saying a word! Do you know how shocked I was? We were finally able to meet again, after almost 20 years of being apart, but you didn't see me."

A psychopath. Most people wouldn't remember such insignificant details, but this man had probably been stalking Myles for years, so when Myles didn't notice him at that time, he probably flipped.

"How could I approach you at that time? There were many reporters and famous people. As much as I wanted to talk to you, I'm not interested in having my life intruded on by the media. You are a famous figure in this city, I'm nothing much..."

Grey was spitting lies like there was no tomorrow. Myles didn't even notice Kyle passing by him, nonetheless really cared. The man had isolated his feelings and emotions, putting them into sections and categorizing them by priority. Everything from his childhood, he tried his best to suppress. He didn't want to remember anything or anyone from that time. He ran away and didn't want to look back at the demons that were chasing after him.

That's why, even if the original Myles was here, he wouldn't have remembered Kyle at all.

"What do you mean you are nothing much? In comparison, if this world wasn't so unforgiving, you would've been shining! Like a bright star in the night sky, guiding people into the light. But it's like there's something going against you, trying to pull you down to make sure you will never be your best self. I was taking out people who hindered your growth. They deserved this. All of this!"

Grey couldn't help but think, then why did he decide to snuff out Myles' light and hide him away from the rest of the world???

He deluded himself into thinking he was saving Myles. He thought he was helping, even with how twisted his thinking was. Sad to say, the man truly cared for Myles, but his actions, and his thoughts were detrimental to him and everyone around him. Especially to Myles.

"It may seem like you were helping me, but you have hurt so many innocent people. Why did you kill all those people? I haven't even met most of them."

From System 225's reports, Agent Freddy and the others have already secured the area around the building. There was even a sniper ready to shoot at Kyle if needed. Grey was only there to distract and then detain the man. If Grey fails, everyone would go into action.

"I... I had to! I had to do it. They, everyone, everyone was hindering your growth! Your transformation! I won't allow them to do that. You should've gone far with your life. Why were you the only one who had to suffer?"

The man's eyes turned red as he thought about how so many people had mistreated Myles. If only he could get rid of everyone, then no one could harm his Myles!

"Kyle..." Grey gave a sad and bitter smile. "I love my job right now. I love helping people, but I'm sad that you did all of this... I really wish we didn't meet this way."

As if he was struck by a bolt of lightning, Kyle staggered back, away from Myles. He knew that Myles was more outgoing when he was at work, which showed his love and passion for his job. In private, the man had isolated himself from the rest of the world, until Dr. Reynolds came into his life.

Was Dr. Reynolds the one who changed Myles? Changed his Myles... His train of thoughts was going a mile a minute, unable to keep up with the previous thoughts as they kept firing in his brain, but he concluded that everything, his peaceful times with Myles, was the fault of the man sitting in the chair!

He lifted up the gun and pointed it at Dr. Reynolds.

"Myles, if you don't want that bastard to die, you must come with me. Forget about him and love me. I will take care of you, pamper you, and spoil you. You won't have to worry about food or money. I will provide everything for you!"

"Alright, so put the gun down. I already prepared myself to go home with you anyway."

Hearing that, Kyle's eyes brightened. Myles wanted to go home with him. He should've talked to Myles sooner. They would've been together ages ago!

Dr. Reynolds' eyes darkened when he heard Myles. He knew that Myles was using himself as bait, but those words still made him feel sour. When he saw Myles readying his knife in his pocket, Dr. Reynolds' fast-beating heart calmed down. Myles still loves him. He didn't love that crazy, psychopath of a CEO in front of them. He trusted Myles. Myles trusted him so he trusted Myles...

There wasn't any change in Grey's emotions and he just slowly walked over. Seeing Myles walk over, he put the gun down on the table. Grey already knew the man had a knife waiting for him, so he, too, drew his knife when Kyle brought him into a hug.

"Myles, I've waited so long for us to hug like this. Your embrace is warm," As he said that, the knife he was hiding in his sleeve stabbed into Myles' gut. Kyle specifically stabbed in a place where it wouldn't hit internal organs, but it still hurt like a bitch.

Feeling himself getting stabbed, Grey stabbed Kyle back in the same spot. He quickly pulled the knife out, unlike Kyle who kept the knife in his gut. Kyle was shocked and he tried to stumble back, but he was pushed down onto the ground, his face first into the ground. He had no idea when Grey turned him around.

"Kyle Reed, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court..." Grey said the rest he had to say as he handcuffed Kyle. He was feeling a bit lightheaded, but he somehow made it through.

He heard System 225 say that he completed the Mission and his Side Mission, but the voice was drifting away from him.

In the meantime, Dr. Reynolds was finally able to free himself from the duct tape. He had a couple of scratches on his hands and wrist, but they weren't that deep. He was a bit tired and his body ached, but he was more worried about Myles than he was himself.

Still, he ran over to help Myles stop the bleeding.

The Agents and the others finally barged in and took over. They scouted the warehouse, turned off the camera as quickly as they could, lest it blew up, and helped Myles get off of Kyle. Myles was bleeding tremendously from his wound and needed medical attention. Actually, both Kyle and Grey needed immediate medical care.

Everything happened so fast that the lightheaded Grey didn't realize that he was picked up and put on a stretcher.

By the time he came to, he was in the hospital. He was in a nice, fluffy bed, and Caleb was passed out holding his left hand. He didn't leave Grey's side. He stayed all day and night at the hospital to make sure that Myles was okay.

Grey's heart warmed when he saw Caleb. He whispered, "Thank you for being here for me, no matter where I go or who I am..."

"How about me? I've also been waiting here." Dr. Reynolds came in with another Doctor. He sat down next to Grey on his right side. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling alright. Just a bit tired."

The doctor who came in stood at the foot of the bed. "Your vitals are normal and your wound is healing well. You should be able to be discharged the day after tomorrow."

"How long have I been asleep?" He felt like he hadn't moved in days!

"It's been 4 days. Not only were you stabbed and had to undergo surgery, but you originally haven't been sleeping or eating well. I'm not surprised you slept for so long. Your body was trying to catch up on wasted sleep."

It was true... He hadn't had a good night's rest in a long ass time. He also spent a lot of his time sleeping at the station lately, barely having time to go home. Sometimes, he didn't sleep for a couple of days, relying on unhealthy amounts of coffee.

"Ah, there are people who would like to see you. They are waiting outside the door. Everything looks good so rest up and don't move too much. We will discuss the rest of your care later." The doctor was a man who didn't like to say unnecessary words or small talk. He was clear and concise, but somehow, it didn't bother anyone.

After that, the doctor left. The man was busy as he was an ER doctor. He had already been on duty for more than 12 hours and felt his rationality slipping away. Even so, he was passionate about his job and loved what he did. He was tired, but he pushed through.

When the doctor walked out the door, Agent Freddy and his team walked in.

"Myles, it's good to see you are awake." Agent Freddy said with his usual cold face, but one could tell there was a large burden lifted off of his shoulders.

"Agent Freddy, can you brief me on what has happened since I have been unconscious?"

Dr. Mia jumped in front and smiled. "Agent Freddy is tired, so I will brief you."

Agent Freddy just stared at Dr. Mia for a moment before nodding. He probably realized he couldn't fight with Dr. Mia.

"When you arrested Mr. Reed, he was very cooperative. He answered everything and let us into his home. One look at his basement and we knew this man was the killer. We also found a young man there, Kiran, who was a University student. Luckily, we made it in time and he was safe. Also, Mr. Reed even said he would plead guilty to his crimes on the basis that he sees you one last time. He doesn't want a lesser sentence or anything, just to meet you."

It seemed everything was working out too well. He had been in high tension since coming to this world so it was a relief that the worst of it was finally over. Grey sighed in relief and laid back against the bed.

Everyone could understand what Myles was going through. This long case had him as the main victim but also the center of it all. The killer danced around Myles, stalking him for years, and even kidnapped his lover. For it to finally be over, he probably felt that the world on his shoulders was finally much lighter.

When Grey shifted and moved, Caleb finally woke up. When he saw that Grey was awake and doing well, he jumped Grey into a hug and started to cry. "Mylesssss!!!" Caleb uncontrollably sobbed into Grey's shoulder, leaving everyone feeling a bit warm.

The two were always together. Even when Grey was stabbed, he hadn't left his side. No one could pry Caleb away from Grey so everyone let Caleb have his moment.

It was finally over.
