Chapter 19: The cocoon

The stench was unbearable in that place, and worst of all, there were no windows to ventilate the environment.

At least the dragon seemed to be feeling better, but the same couldn't be said for its companions.

"It's absolutely foul in here," Kowalsk shouted.

The impression was that the dragon had vomited much more than it had eaten.

"And look what I found here!" Thilláila yelled.

"I'd rather not know," Kowalsk replied, still holding his nose.

"I'd prefer to go back to sleep," Gareno said.

"But you never sleep," both retorted.

"I think you'll want to see this," Thilláila said, very frightened.

Curious as they were, the two quickly went to check out the girl's discovery.

It was truly strange. It was like a human body wrapped in strips, similar to an Egyptian mummy.

And the most intriguing part was how it ended up inside the dragon's stomach. Now, even more importantly, they needed to know if there was anyone alive inside that cocoon.

"Does anyone have a knife?" Thilláila asked.

Quickly, Kowalsk took out a knife from his belongings and handed it to Thilláila, who skillfully began cutting the soft, organic strips while the dragon seemed to be unconscious, perhaps from the effort it had made to expel everything.

At that moment, no one seemed to care about it, as all attention was focused on the cocoon being slowly opened by Thilláila's skilled hands.

Every second, a human form was revealed under all those strange strips, and surprisingly, it was a man.

He was alive and recovering incredibly fast.

"I've seen many dragons in my life, but I never knew they could get pregnant with humans. Who could be the father of this person? And what's even stranger is that he was born old."

"Old soldier, this time you've broken the record for foolishness," Gareno said, somewhat irritated by the absurd comment.

"Unfortunately, I have to agree with Gareno, Mr. Kowalsk. Clearly, this isn't the result of a dragon pregnancy, but rather a fusion between a dragon and a person, or perhaps, even more incredibly, some kind of safe delivery or transport."

"Now I've heard nonsense. And then you say I'm the fool? Our doubt will be cleared up once this man wakes up and tells us how he ended up inside that dragon's belly. I believe I speak for everyone when I say we're very curious to find out."

"And do you think there might be more of these cocoons?" Gareno asked, sifting through all the organic and smelly mass spread on the floor.

"Do you mean there could be twins?" Kowalsk asked, already regretting the question.

"I don't think so, Mr. Kowalsk. I believe this dragon's priority was to guard and protect only one human being."

"So, what is all this mass that was inside the dragon?"

"If I'm right, Mr. Kowalsk, this is just the protein needed to maintain the body I just took out of these organic strips. Now please help me take this man to the bathroom and give him a bath to clean up all this dirt, or rather, all this vitamin spread all over his body."

"Let us handle this, Thilláila. After all, we don't know how dangerous this man might be to you," said Kowalsk, taking control of the situation.

"Finally, a sensible attitude, old soldier! How smart of you. Let me help you take the body to the bathroom. Just follow me, please," said Gareno, easily picking up the body as if it weighed nothing to him.
