Chapter 7: No Way Out

The desperation of the dragon pinned by the door was so palpable that even Kowalsk felt pity for it. Despite knowing it was pure madness, he had the urge to help the poor creature.

The pinned animal tried in every way to escape from under that heavy door, but it lacked the strength to do so, now even more so. From the way things were going, it would die right there, serving as food for its own companions.

All that noise lasted approximately 5 minutes, but for Kowalsk, it seemed much longer. He hated those creatures, but he couldn't help but feel sorry for them; after all, this attack was too cowardly.

The noise ceased, and the trapped dragon was still conscious but completely immobile due to the pain it was feeling.

Without waiting another second, Kowalsk decided to crawl under the door, and the scene he saw next horrified him.

That dragon, because it was helpless and pinned under that heavy metal door, had lost both its legs, as its companions had devoured large chunks of flesh up to the thigh.

The amount of blood on the floor was also excessive, and it didn't take long for the blood to completely coagulate.

"Come see this, Piotr!" shouted Kowalsk.

"If I were you, I'd get out of there right away, old soldier," warned Piotr.

"Why would I leave? Do you think those dragons will come back here so soon after eating as much as they did?"

"You have a lot to learn from those you think won't come back for more of their companion. You're forgetting a basic rule of nature. Where there is abundant and easy food... There is always someone wanting to eat it," explained Piotr, sounding wise.

"Are you saying those two went to call the rest of the pack?"

"That's right, Kowalsk. And they won't stop coming until they've completely devoured this dragon. So if you want to stay alive, get out of there immediately."

Kowalsk hurriedly crawled back under the door and returned to the laboratory.

"We need to close this door completely, or we'll be the next meal for those beasts," he said, even before Piotr finished speaking.

Not wasting a moment, Kowalsk tried to push the dragon out of the laboratory.

"Hahaha! Do you really think you can push this beast like that?" Piotr laughed.

"Then help me, and I can do it," replied Kowalsk.

"Hey, old soldier, by my calculations, this creature must weigh almost a ton, and even though they've taken chunks of flesh from its hind legs, there's still too much weight for us to push," Piotr explained.

"What are we going to do then, Piotr?"

"Well, since this is a laboratory, maybe there's something that can help us."

Piotr and Kowalsk started looking for something that could help them push the dragon into the corridor, and for a long five minutes, it seemed they were out of luck.

Suddenly, Kowalsk looked up and recognized something that could assist them, and now he was looking for a remote control until he found it.

"What did you find there, Kowalsk?"

"This, my friend, is called an overhead crane or hoist, and it seems to be quite strong."

"How are we going to use that?"

This time, Piotr was curious.

"Very simple, we're going to hook this hook onto this chain, which we'll wrap around the dragon's neck, and then we're going to drag it inside."

Not believing what he had just heard, the strange soldier asked, "But wouldn't it be better if we managed to push it out?"

"Indeed, Piotr, that would be a good idea, but this tool here is for dragging, not pushing. So help me with this before we have more unpleasant company here."

Without further ado, the awkward Piotr came towards the dragon, which seemed to be going into a coma, and wrapped its neck with the thick chain taken from Kowalsk's hands.

In less than two minutes, his companion was already operating the hoist controls to drag the dragon inside the laboratory.

Zummmm track!!.

That was the noise the hoist made on its first attempt to remove the dragon.

"I think you'd better help pull this dragon inside. The hoist probably won't hold all this weight, and if I keep insisting, its electric motor might burn out, and then we'll really be in trouble."

Piotr's help had an effect, and soon the whole body of the dragon, with its badly injured hind legs, was inside the laboratory.
