Chapter 7: Bloodline Talent: Golden Silk Thread

But he clearly remembered not having any teeth. How could he have gone to sleep without teeth and woken up with them?

In his mind, he suddenly recalled the dream he had just had. It didn't seem like a dream. It felt too real. Normally, if it were an ordinary dream, he would have started to forget it upon waking. But the memory in his brain was crystal clear. And then there was that golden thread...

As soon as this thought surfaced, Sethe's eyes widened in disbelief. The fact was indeed incredible. In the air before him, a golden filament slowly extended. Compared to the several meters long golden thread in the dream world, the golden silk thread now appearing before him looked very short, only a dozen or so centimeters long.

It had gotten shorter.

The golden silk thread in front of him gave off a familiar feeling. His right paw slowly raised, tentatively touching the golden thread.

Did you change me?

The moment his claw touched the golden thread, a faint golden glow lit up, and a stream of unfamiliar information surfaced in his mind.

[Bloodline Talent: Golden Silk Thread, Golden Silk of Joy obtained by satisfying one's emotions, can strengthen oneself through Golden Silk of Joy].

The golden filaments in front of him disappeared. However, Sethe sat dumbfounded on the bed for a long time.

Bloodline talent? So this was the bloodline talent that had turned him into a big-headed lizard? It seemed powerful! Just by satisfying his emotions, he could obtain the golden thread, and it would strengthen him.

Excited, Sethe stood up and walked upright from the room to the balcony. His big round black eyes looked out at the sky, revealing infinite longing.

If he were just an ordinary big-headed lizard, he would have been content to live as a pet lizard by Cecilia's side, with food and shelter, which wasn't too bad. But now, it seemed he was more than that.

With this powerful bloodline talent, he could go further!

Stepping onto the balcony, he tumbled along the handrail and stood on the roof, taking one last look at Cecilia's room. Without hesitation, Sethe leaped down from the roof of the second floor.

He wanted to become stronger, even as a big-headed lizard. He wanted to be a powerful big-headed lizard, not just a cute one.

His thick hind paws landed firmly on the compound's balcony. Sethe ran straight to the front door. There was no scent of Cecilia in the house, so he guessed she had gone out. But that was good—it saved them from a goodbye.

Running out of the compound, a small road connecting it to the main road appeared in Sethe's sight. The main road led to a city with a western flair behind him, while ahead, it extended into the forest.

Looking at the green forest, a longing suddenly rose in his heart. It felt like a choice driven by his bloodline.

As a big-headed lizard, nature was still more suitable for him. Standing upright, Sethe took a step.

With the first step, he felt something more in his body. Carefully sensing it, he realized it was the golden silk, and although it had only grown a little, it had indeed grown.

With each step, the golden threads grew.

Eventually, Sethe transitioned to moving on all fours. His speed increased as he stepped quickly on the grass.

Close, close.

Approaching the shrubs, excitement grew in Sethe's gaze.

[Rustle~]

The moment he ran into the forest, the golden threads in his body grew dramatically, extending from about a meter to a meter and a half.

Standing in the forest, Sethe stopped. He was excited but not overwhelmed.

Entering the forest was the right decision.

Sethe stopped and took in the forest's fresh scent of decaying leaves. It smelled good. All around were giant trees, over fifty meters tall. The trees in this world were huge.

Currently, he was still weak and couldn't venture too deep into the forest. Since this was a foreign world, there were likely dangerous beasts as well. But since this forest was near a human city, it probably didn't have any creatures too dangerous.

Next, he needed to find a place to settle down nearby.

After wandering, Sethe stopped in front of a small stream in the forest. The creek looked clear and clean, with small fish and shrimps visible swimming in it. The water source was found.

Scanning around, Sethe's gaze landed on a large tree on the opposite bank of the stream. Unlike other tall trees, this one was around forty meters tall but had a thick trunk, about a dozen meters wide.

At first glance, it looked suitable for habitation. He just needed to hollow out a big hole of a few meters in the trunk.

Straightening up, Sethe stepped into the shallow stream. The water was cool, but bearable. Walking through the five or six-meter-long stream, Sethe stopped midway.

He realized he hadn't seen his reflection yet. He knew he had turned into a big-headed lizard but hadn't seen what he looked like.

Tilting his head, he looked at the crystal clear stream.

The stream reflected a red lizard about a meter tall, covered in red scales. The lizard's head was huge and round, almost catching up with its body.

A pair of crystalline black pupils, big-eyed and a bit cute, stared back at him.

Apart from the large head, he seemed quite adorable.

Looking at his reflection, Sethe felt very satisfied. In that instant, the golden thread in his body grew again, extending to two meters.

Feeling all of this, Sethe paused. The growth of the golden thread had always been slow, but the moment he stepped into the forest, it had grown rapidly. Now, it had grown again.

He vaguely felt he had grasped something.

Fulfillment! He was doing what he wanted in his heart, and that moment of fulfillment converted into the golden silk of joy.

Walking onto the shore, Sethe lifted his big round head and looked at the ancient tree before him. The crumpled bark and the huge trunk felt secure at first glance. Now, all he wanted was to make this tree his home.

Glancing at his tender little paws, he saw sharp claws. They looked tender, white, and red, with the pink flesh inside visible. Trying to dig through the trunk with these claws alone was impossible.

Chapter 8: Leave?

However, with the golden silk having grown to two meters, one more evolution should be enough.

To evolve safely, a secure place was essential.

His eyes scanned the tree trunk in front of him. The large tree's thick roots intertwined, forming small spaces here and there. It looked alright, but merely alright.

To evolve in peace, he needed to dig a hole.

Taking a step forward, he squeezed into the crisscrossing tree roots. They weren't too crowded, making it easy for Sethe to fit into the middle of them.

Perhaps because it was under the roots, the soil was moist and fluffy.

[Hiss~]

A faint hissing sound emerged.

A black shadow suddenly sprang up from the wet soil in front of him. Instinctively, Sethe put his claws in front of him.

Some liquid seemed to be sprayed on his body, followed by a sharp pain as something bit his paw. Looking down, he saw a snake, emerald green, biting his paw. Its fangs tried to pierce the scales on his paw.

Strangely, Sethe didn't feel threatened by the snake. He reached out with his right paw and held down the snake's head, pulling it off his left paw.

Examining the bitten paw, he saw yellow venom staining the scales, along with faint scratches. If he had let the snake bite longer, it might have penetrated the scales.

A pungent smell reached his nose. The venom had a terrible odor, which Sethe now noticed. As time passed, the smell intensified. If not for wanting a temporary shelter under the tree roots, he would have already fled.

He wanted to rub the venom off his claws on the tree trunk but stopped. Since the venom's smell disgusted him, other forest beasts might feel the same.

Looking at the snake coiled around his right paw, an idea sparked in Sethe's mind. This snake was useful. Sprinkling its venom around would enhance the security of his shelter.

Holding the snake's head, he pressed down lightly, making it spray venom. The venom landed on the tree trunks and soil, making the pungent odor more intense. It was an unpleasant smell, but it increased safety.

Spraying the venom around the roots, Sethe felt the snake's grip loosening. After a dozen sprays, the snake became limp.

Sethe aimed the snake's head at the spot it had emerged from. One more spray, and he'd let it go. The snake didn't respond to his presses and became softer.

Is it exhausted?

The snake, drained and listless, hung from his paw. Seeing its condition, Sethe decided to let it go.

Placing the snake on the ground, it slowly twisted its body and crawled away, not wanting to stay near the big lizard. Even exhausted, it struggled to escape.

Watching the snake leave, satisfaction rose in Sethe's heart. +1 for security at the temporary shelter.

The golden threads inside him grew again.

After a pause, Sethe looked at the ground. The moist soil seemed loose. He decided to dig a hole for extra safety. Despite the venom, a beast might still intrude while he was evolving, and he wasn't sure how long the venom's scent would last.

So, he began digging.

[Dig a hole, bury some dirt, count one, two, three, four, five.]

Sethe hummed merrily while digging, even though his throat could only produce monotonous sounds.

"Spindle~"

Covered in dirt, Sethe made strange cries as he dug, expressing joy. The soft soil was easy to dig, and within half an hour, he had created a small pit five meters deep with a three-meter-wide space at the bottom.

Blocking the entrance with his body, Sethe lay on the ground. It was a bit wet, but he didn't mind, being a big-headed lizard now. His body adapted well to the environment.

Thinking about Jin Si, a three-meter-long golden thread appeared in the air, emitting a faint golden glow that dispersed the darkness in the cave.

[This time I'll strengthen my front claws.]

With this thought, the golden silk thread in front of him began to extend towards his claws. Sethe watched as it disappeared into the scales of his right paw. In a few seconds, the thread had fully merged with his claws.

Just as he wondered what would happen to his left paw, a wave of drowsiness overwhelmed him. His eyelids grew heavy, and his thoughts became dizzy.

His big head slumped to the ground, and Sethe quietly closed his eyes.

[Click~]

"I'm home~"

Cecilia pushed open the door, greeted by four little ones. They pounced on her, three of them instantly.

She caught them one by one: Ella on her head, Nora on her shoulder, and Mia in her arms. The largest, Carl, rubbed against her calf.

After interacting with them, Cecilia walked upstairs.

"I'm..."

Seeing the empty room and the open balcony door, she understood. It wasn't the first time this had happened. She had picked up many magical beast cubs, and they often had two choices upon waking: stay or leave.

Sethe had chosen the latter.

Putting down the bag of roasted meat, Cecilia walked onto the balcony. It was night, and the moon was full and bright.
