Chapter 4: Lionel [4]

After distancing himself from his senior brother without looking back, lest he get called back, Lionel managed to make his way back into his room in the manor without causing much commotion.

The maids and guards who did see him subtly pointed fingers at him, though no one dared to speak their thoughts aloud.

"Whatever, if Father or Second Brother calls me to ask what happened, I'll just tell them a mix of truth and lies."

Though he spoke carelessly, Lionel was still very much worried. However, even after taking his bath and changing into a new set of clothes, no one came to call him.

In the end, he decided to stop worrying about something he did not have control over and focus on something else.

And what else was more important than the cheat he got a while ago?

"How do I call it?"

"Do I have to say 'system' like those protagonists do in the novels back on Earth?"

The moment the word left his mouth, a bell-like sound echoed in his mind, and a blue panel appeared in front of him.

"Ohh! So it's like that!" Lionel happily exclaimed. But before diving deeper into knowing more about his cheat, he wanted to confirm his theory first.

Lionel muttered 'system' a few times, and when he saw the system panel appear and disappear from his eyes, he was satisfied. He muttered 'system' one more time, and the panel reappeared in front of him.

This time, he didn't dismiss it.

[Status]

[Quest]

[Shop]

A serious expression appeared on Lionel's face as he stared at the content of the blue panel in front of him.

While the content shown currently wasn't what had initially appeared when the system first activated, it made him realise there was more to the system.

"Status, Quest, and Shop. Based on the names alone, it's easy to guess what they could be about."

Lionel figured that the first option, {Status}, would probably take him to the page he saw when the system first appeared.

"So what about the Quest and Shop options?" While Lionel could take a guess at their function based on their names, it wasn't until he checked them out properly that he would know what they were about.

Among the two options, Lionel was currently more curious about the {Shop}.

However, he was bound to be disappointed.

[Unlocks at level 10]

Lionel tried to see if he could do anything about this, but even after exiting the {Shop} and reentering it several times, the message that came up remained the same.

[Unlocks at level 10]

"I guess I'll have to wait until level 10 to figure out what use this function has."

Knowing there was nothing else he could do about the situation, Lionel went for the next function he was curious about.

{Quest}

[Main Quest]

Reach level 10

[Daily Quests]

- Drink two litres of water {Reward: 10 EXP, 0.1 VIT}

- Run four miles {Reward: 10 EXP, 0.2 AGI}

- 200 Push-ups {Reward: 10 EXP, 0.1 STR}

- Total completion of daily quests {Reward: 20 EXP, 0.1 ARC}

{Daily Quests can be repeated twice a day}

Initially, when Lionel tapped to see what the quest option on the panel was about, while he was curious, he didn't particularly have any expectations until he saw what came next.

"Fuck!" Lionel cursed aloud in excitement.

"Fucking strong!" It took every bit of strength in him not to scream.

"These quests, no, this quest function might be the strongest function in this cheat," Lionel muttered a bunch of words as he tried to arrange his thoughts. If he was not mistaken and it really was as he thought, then this quest system was the quickest way to increase his strength.

The main quest was similar to the shop opening requirement where he had to be level 10.

He wasn't sure what was so special about this level, but the future would tell.

Since the main quest couldn't be completed immediately, it would be put aside for now.

What Lionel was really focused on was the daily quests, or rather, the rewards that came along with these quests.

Aside from experience points that would increase his level, some stat points were also given.

Normally, these stats could only be raised through hard training, potions, and a few other ways, but the system was making it so that he only had to complete a few quests and raise his stats in ways that would normally take numerous days.

These quests could raise his strength faster. Since they were also termed daily quests, it meant a steady increase in strength.

These quests could also be done twice a day, doubling the results.

Excitement surged through Lionel as he thought of how much his strength could increase from now on.

"With these quests alone, I'll be able to become an Official Knight faster than expected."

To become an official Knight, one must first reach the limit of the human body in a certain aspect. After this step, one would then use the arcane energy within them to form a life seed and break the limit placed on the human body to become a 'higher lifeform.'

This was the advancement path for a knight. It was different for other extraordinary paths like mages, wizards, and so on.

Knights weren't exactly weak, but due to its less strict requirements compared to other extraordinary paths, and was the main path most ordinary people could take to become extraordinaries, it was deemed as weak.

This was why, even though extraordinaries weren't common, among extraordinaries, knights were common.

The powers that came with being an extraordinary knight weren't as strong as the other paths, so they were at a disadvantage against non-knight extraordinaries.

Knights weren't weak, but they weren't the strongest either.

However, knights were still extraordinaries and were capable of destructive powers.

Putting aside how strong the knight path was compared to the other extraordinary paths, one of the main requirements to becoming one was having a strong physique.

Lionel, as an apprentice knight, was already way stronger than normal people but was in no way comparable to an official knight, nor was his body ready to form a life seed either.

However, with these quests…

Becoming a knight didn't seem exactly hard anymore…
