conversation

Over the next week, Ron continued his routine of sneaking outside the wall, while his mother, Jessie, worked and his brother Sam was at school, Ron left Alexandria in search of zombies to practice his combat skills. With each encounter, he perfected his technique and learned to anticipate the walkers' movements.

His constant escapes and confrontations with zombies made him aware of the danger that lurked beyond the walls of the community. With each outing, Ron gained a broader perspective of the precarious situation of the community, unconsciously noticing the multiple vulnerabilities of the community. community as a result of the lack of vigilance and care on the part of the Alexandrians

Despite living in a dangerous environment, the inhabitants of Alexandria lacked the knowledge and skills to defend themselves against threats from the outside world. They were not prepared to face walkers or other hostile groups. Ron, based on knowledge from his previous life, knew that there were other survivors out there, and that some of them would not be friendly at all, however, the Alexandrians seemed to think that none of that posed a threat.

The walls surrounding Alexandria had become a liability. The inhabitants trusted them too much, believing that they were enough to protect them. But Ron saw the cracks in that false sense of security.

Community leadership also presented problems. Deanna, although she was a kind leader, was not assertive or determined enough. Decisions were made slowly and laboriously through assemblies where all inhabitants participated. Because of this, the chain of command was not solid enough to react quickly to unexpected events.

Ron also noticed the lack of a sustainable food source. Although they had a huge cistern to store water and solar panels to provide electricity, they depended only on the food obtained by the explorers, who constantly left Alexandria in search of resources, searches that almost always ended with injuries and even the death of some. explorers, making the amount of food and resources extremely limited.

However, the inhabitants of Alexandria preferred to ignore the reality of the zombie apocalypse, acting as if nothing had happened, in an absurd attempt to deny the new and dangerous situation in which the community of Alexandria found itself, which, in Ron's opinion, had survived. by pure luck depending mainly on their huge walls and their favorable location in the middle of the forest that kept them away from the radar of other groups.

This lack of awareness and preparation worried Ron who understood the importance of staying alert and prepared at all times, causing him to question the safety of his family despite his efforts to improve his own skills.

Ron inevitably felt the need to educate others about the seriousness of the situation and the importance of being prepared for unforeseen situations, however, due to his age and lack of influence, Ron's options for achieving this were few.

So, one afternoon while in Reg's study after one of his tutorials, Ron steeled himself, organized his thoughts, and prepared to share his concerns and discoveries, hoping that Reg would take his thoughts into account. opinions

"Reg, I need to tell you something important." Ron said, sitting on a couch in front of the desk where Reg was reviewing the assignments he had left for Ron last class.

"Go ahead, Ron. What's going on?" Reg responded, looking up from his notes.

Ron sat back in his chair, searching for the right words. Since his accident, he had been watching Alexandria with more critical eyes. The community was not as perfect as it seemed.

"Ever since I lost my memory, I've been observing how everything works here in Alexandria." Ron started to talk.

"And, Reg, I can't help but notice some errors and inconsistencies that could threaten our security and stability." He explained.

Reg frowned, but nodded. He had noticed that Ron was more attentive lately, "What have you noticed, Ron?" Reg asked curiously. Ron took a moment to gather his thoughts before continuing."First, the walls. They are not as safe as we think. Lack of maintenance and constant surveillance. If a group of walkers or enemies decided to attack us, we would be in trouble." Ron said.

"Attackers?" Reg asked "why would anyone want to attack us? "Besides, if any survivors manage to get here they will be welcomed with open arms, after all we still have enough space and resources," Reg explained in an attempt to reassure him without realizing that this only made Ron shudder at the lack of caution he had shown. said comment indicated.

"I know you're a good person Reg, and most of the people who live here are, however, I don't think all the people out there are," Ron argued.

"Okay, I see your point, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help them," Reg interrupted. "Once they see what we have here, I'm sure anyone will realize what's best for everyone," Reg explained.

"Maybe you're right," said Ron, "or maybe not and we'd just be letting a wolf into our house," Ron thought to himself without telling Reg as he felt it was unlikely that his mentor would accept such a point of view.

"Anyway, let us adults take care of it Ron. Don't worry." Reg said.

"I understand, but there are still some other points that concern me" Ron added, Reg just remained silent waiting for the young man to express his concerns.

"There is also the lack of training. The majority of the inhabitants do not know how to defend themselves adequately. And the food source… is not sustainable. "We depend too much on reserves and foreign expeditions," Ron continued.

"Ron, I understand your concerns, but believe me, everything is under control. Leave those matters in the hands of us adults. There is no need for kids your age to worry about that kind of thing" Reg tried to reassure him.

Ron, feeling exasperated at Reg's lack of attention to his warnings, leaned forward, determined to convince him.

"Reg, we can't rely on walls alone. We need a comprehensive plan. More weapons, more awareness of danger, and ways to escape in case of emergency. "Sustainability is key to our long-term survival." Ron argued.

Reg ran a hand through his hair, although a little alarmed by the points Ron was making, he wasn't worried enough about these events happening in the next few days, plus he himself had designed the walls that protected them and was sure they were tough enough to keep walkers out of Alexandria. As for the possible attack by another group of survivors, Reg was convinced that such an event was even more unlikely since given the conditions of the outside world, it was difficult for a large group of people to survive without shelter like the one they had, plus that Alexandria's location was remote enough to prevent people from being attracted to them.

"I'll take your concerns into account, Ron, I promise. But there is no need to rush, we can address these problems little by little" Reg agreed when he noticed that Ron was really worried.

Reg's response surprised Ron as he realized that his teacher had downplayed his concerns. This attitude frustrated Ron, who hoped that Reg would understand the seriousness of the situation and the need to take measures to strengthen the security of Ron. The community, however, also understood that pursuing the issue was useless since Reg was firmly convinced that the community was safe enough.

After that brief discussion, Ron and his family left the Monroe house. Ron, still feeling a mixture of frustration and desperation at the situation, came to the conclusion that if Reg didn't act, he would. He could not allow the carelessness of the inhabitants of Alexandra to put the safety of his family at risk,

Unfortunately, there wasn't much Ron could do besides convince Reg or Deanna of the imminent danger they were exposed to, however, to do so he needed to come up with a more solid plan.

Thinking about that and remembering his personal project, Ron saw a glimmer of hope, perhaps if he showed Reg and Deanna a mature enough plan for the development of Alexandria they would take it into account.

Once he decided on his plan of action, Ron redoubled his efforts in creating said plan, all this without neglecting his training and his exploration of the surroundings where, in addition to facing zombies and continuing to improve his survival skills, he also looked for potential dangers. hoping to warn the community in a timely manner.
