Chapter 20: CHAPTER 20 - ANITA VS DANIEL
"Welcome to my domain," Anita said speaking for the first time in the ceremony.
Lee who was blinded by the smoke could only depend on his hearing to sense the arrow's direction.
The smoke had something in it that burned the eye so even if he wanted to open it it burned.
The smoke was affecting the entire stage at the moment, if he ran out he would lose the match, so he had to stay inside, and somehow Anita could see inside the smoke and continued shooting arrows at him.
Although he could dodge one or two at a time, what if she shot nonstop? How would he dodge, this gave him a bug headache as arrows were sticking out of his body.
Even the crowd couldn't see what was happening on the stage, all they saw was some grey smoke covering the area after Anita shot her bow.
Arrow after arrows were fired until finally Lee couldn't continue and gave up.
Bang….
He crashed to the ground as he was bleeding in multiple places where arrows hit.
Very soon the crowd saw Anita walking off stage, "has she given up?" that was the thought in all their heads until the smoke dissipated and the unconscious body of Lee lay in the middle of the stage.
Anita won the battle with a technical style, creating her own battlefield to get an advantage in the fight, if they fought in an open space and Lee was prepared the fight direction could have gone in a different direction.
The next match was the final, Daniel vs Anita.
Anita was given time to rest due to the fight she just had, and a drink to recover her energy.
"Since you've seen how she fights how do you plan to win" Micheal asked.
"If she does that smoke attack on you, wouldn't it be bad for you right?" Micheal continued asking.
"I don't know yet, it might work it might not, I came here to train my skills so I'll appreciate her effort," Daniel replied.
He was thinking about how he would fight her, since she knew he was good at close combat she'll try to fight him with her bow to keep him away.
He just let it be, whatever she threw at him he would do his best to fight back.
Time passed and the allocated resting time was over, it was time for the finals.
They both walked on stage, staring at each other from opposite sides, even though the cheers were deafening the arena sounded quiet to them, like they couldn't hear all the noise the crowd was making.
On one side stood Anita and at the other Daniel stood, Anita was thinking of ways to win this fight, she watched Daniel's previous fights so she understood that even with her weapons she couldn't beat him in close combat.
She had to try her best not to allow him to come close to her during the fight.
"Begin," the commentator lady's voice echoes our.
Immediately arrows were fired, even faster than her previous matches.
During her break, she changed her bowstring and added more arrows to her collection.
Seeing the arrows coming he didn't even move, he just used his arms to break each of the incoming arrows.
He didn't leave or dodge any arrows, if he left them they could be used as a weapon later if she ran out of arrows.
All the arrows were blocked by his arm guard and broken, Anita knew that her bow couldn't do much in the fight as of now.
Daniel started moving forward to meet her, this time she threw a small round ball that exploded the minute it hit him.
It was the smoke she used on Lee, she threw a few more at him to increase the smoke and prepared her bow.
Inside the smoke Daniel was trying to minimize his movements, he didn't want an arrow to come from nowhere and hit his chest or head.
He learned from Lee that the smoke had another property, opening your eyes in it was a bad idea, as it could burn your eyes, so he kept his eyes closed for the moment.
Instantly the sound of arrows being shot was heard, he didn't panic or drop his guard or even move, he just blocked it like he had done, just that he couldn't break the arrows since his eyes were closed.
He already got a hang of how she shoots, she either aims at the head, the two shoulders, the chest or the thighs, so it was relatively easy for him to block her shots.
Arrows came the next moment, but he also heard steps, not just from one place but from everywhere around him, he knew she had come.
He could hear her everywhere but couldn't pinpoint her location, the moment she shot an arrow she had moved to another position, if he could just see he would be able to locate her and leave the smoke.
He opened his eyes immediately and prepared himself for the pain, but unlike Lee something else happened.
"My eyes, my eyes… they don't hurt, didn't Lee say that opening his eyes in the smoke felt it was burning, but his situation was different," he thought.
Maybe he exaggerated the pain he felt or I can't feel the effect at all.
Not alerting Anita that I could open my eyes, I baited her by allowing an arrow to get through me and hit my chest.
I squinched my eyes as I tried to locate her figure, I could see a blurry outline of her body.
Although the arrow hurt, a little bit of pain was something he could bear to win.
He saw her with her daggers moving closer as she was aiming at a vital spot.
At the last moment, he caught her, surprising her then gave her a body drop throw.
Anita who was on the floor was confused, how could he see, it was shocking to her because if one hadn't come in contact with the property in the smoke and opened their eyes it would have burned.
She has felt the pain firsthand, it took months of diligent training every day to manage and see a little bit clearly in the smoke and get it not to burn her eyes.
Just now she saw Daniel open his eyes at the last moment, catch her daggers, and give her a body drop throw.
