Chapter 102: Chapter 91: Dinner with the sisters

So, Kai had to train to become someone who could actually kill people.

All of this just to help his girlfriend.

And more than that, he perfectly knew that he couldn't say no.

He dived way too deep into the situation and the only way to get out was dying or telling his parents to move him in another country.

But no matter the distance, Hina or even the criminals would've found him.

Kai exhaled deeply, standing in the kitchen with his hands braced against the counter.

The air in the room was thick with unspoken tension, though neither Hina nor Akira had said much after the decision to move in and train him.

Great.

Now he was stuck with two unpredictable women under the same roof, and he couldn't exactly say no to either of them.

Shaking off his thoughts, he focused on what he could control: making dinner.

"I think that is time to make dinner." Kai said.

Hina and Akira both nodded their head.

Cooking had always been one of the few things that helped him relax, something he could focus on and forget about the chaos in his life.

He lived alone for a long time, so he had to learn to cook for himself.

His mother helped him a lot in learning.

But tonight, the relaxing sensation that he usually got from cooking didn't seem to work.

Especially not with two pairs of eyes watching his every move.

Kai opened the fridge, glancing at the ingredients he had.

Nothing too fancy, but enough to make a decent meal.

He pulled out some vegetables, chicken, and noodles.

Maybe a simple stir-fry would do.

It wasn't extravagant, but it was comforting.

As he set up the cutting board and knife, he felt a shift in the atmosphere behind him.

The tension between Hina and Akira was palpable.

It wasn't outright hostility, but there was a quiet undercurrent of rivalry.

He could almost feel it on the back of his neck.

Hina was suspicious about her sister's true intentions.

"So, Kai," Akira's voice broke the silence, with a smooth and teasing voice. "Didn't know you could cook. What else have you been hiding from us?" She asked

Kai glanced over his shoulder at her.

She was leaning back in the chair at the kitchen table, her arms folded, a faint smile playing on her lips as she watched him.

There was something playful, almost predatory in her gaze.

"Yeah, well... that's one of the few things i'm really good at. And I had to survive the lonely life, didn't I?" Kai replied, his voice a little shaky.

He quickly turned his attention back to the chopping board, trying to ignore the way Akira's eyes were following his movements.

There was an intensity there that made his skin prickle.

Hina, sitting next to Akira, didn't say anything at first, but when she noticed Akira's lingering gaze on Kai, her demeanor shifted.

Kai, of course, couldn't see this, but the air in the room changed.

Hina's fingers drummed lightly on the table, her expression tightening.

Her eyes flicked over to Akira, and for a brief moment, her gaze hardened into something much darker.

Then, she looked at how Kai was chopping the vegetables.

There was something in his knife skills that seemed to have turned her on.

Akira, after sensing Hina's stare, simply smirked, clearly amused by the situation.

She leaned back further, her posture relaxed, but her eyes never left Kai.

Kai, unaware of the silent standoff happening behind him, focused on the task at hand.

He chopped the vegetables with practiced precision, his knife moving in smooth, steady strokes.

Cooking always had a calming effect on him, but tonight, the weight of the eyes on his back made him feel like he was being judged, not just on his cooking but on something much bigger.

Hina was looking at her boyfriend with a very "dreamy" expression, probably wondering what else he could do with that knife.

His cuts were so precise and elegant in some ways, and Hina kept staring at him.

She was probably wondering how easily he could chop a throat, or a head.

Who knows...

"You're pretty good at this," Akira remarked, her voice taking on a slightly more sultry tone. "Didn't know you had such... skilled hands." She added, probably thinking the same thing as Hina.

But not in a lustful way, it was more in a "This guy surely has some talent."

Kai almost dropped the knife.

He coughed to cover up his embarrassment, feeling a wave of heat rush to his face.

"It's just cooking," he muttered, trying to shake off her comment and focus.

Hina, catching the suggestive tone in Akira's words, gave her a glare so sharp that it could have cut through steel.

Her possessiveness flared, and she clenched her fists under the table, her jaw tightening.

If looks could kill, Akira would have been in serious trouble.

Hina wasn't about to let anyone, even Akira, cross certain lines with her boyfriend.

Kai, oblivious to the tension behind him, kept cooking, stirring the ingredients in the pan with a focus that was more forced than relaxed.

His heart pounded harder than it should have, partly from the pressure of being watched and partly from Akira's teasing.

He had no idea what was happening behind him, but he could sense something was off.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the meal was ready.

Kai plated the stir-fry, glancing at his work with a sense of accomplishment.

At least he hadn't messed up the food, despite the pressure.

"Dinner's ready," he said, turning around to face the two women.

Akira's eyes lit up as she leaned forward, her smile widening.

"Smells great," she commented, though the way she said it made it clear she wasn't just talking about the food.

Kai looked away, feeling his face heat up again.

Hina's eyes, however, never left Akira's face.

Her possessiveness was in full force now, and though she smiled sweetly at Kai as he set the plates down, her gaze briefly flicked to Akira with a warning glint.

The three of them sat down to eat, and for a moment, the tension eased as they dug into the meal.

Kai could feel himself relax slightly, at least until he realized Akira was still watching him with that same intense gaze.

"Not bad, Kai," Akira said, taking another bite. "Maybe you should cook for me more often."

Hina's fork froze mid-air, and her eyes narrowed slightly.

She didn't say anything, but her message was clear: Back off.

Kai, caught between the two women, shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

He felt like he was missing something, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

The dinner conversation was polite enough, but underneath the surface, there was a battle going on that he wasn't fully aware of.

On the other hand, Akira was completely enjoying the teasing.

Even Hina's reactions to her words were a little satisfaction to her, and Akira was surely having some little fun.

"So, what's the plan now?" Kai asked, desperate to break the awkward silence. "I mean... you're both staying here, so... what's next?"

Akira was about to speak, but before she could say anything, Hina suddenly tensed up, her eyes darting toward the window.

Her entire demeanor changed, and she leaned forward slightly, lowering her voice.

"Don't speakt about these things so easily, Kai," she whispered, her tone deadly serious. "I have the strange feeling that we're being watched."

Kai's heart skipped a beat. "What?" he whispered back, trying to keep his voice calm despite the surge of panic that welled up inside him.

"Outside," Hina continued, her eyes flicking to the window again. "There's someone watching us since the whole day. Act normal. Pretend like you didn't hear anything."

Kai's mind raced.

Watched? He had no idea what was happening, but Hina's tone made it clear that this wasn't a joke.

He forced himself to take another bite of his food, trying to keep his expression neutral even though his heart was pounding.

More than that, the suspects he had were actually realy if Hina also said so.

Akira, on the other hand, didn't seem phased at all.

She glanced out of the corner of her eye toward the window but otherwise acted as if nothing was wrong.

"Hina's right," she said calmly. "Just keep eating. We'll deal with it later."

Kai swallowed hard, trying to focus on his food even though his thoughts were spiraling.

Who could be watching them? And why? Was it connected to Akira's need for a safe place? Or was it something else entirely?

Hina, her eyes still fixed on the window, spoke quietly again.

"We don't know who they are yet, but we need to stay on guard. Kai, just act normal for now. We'll figure out our next move once we know more." Hina said while closing the window and sitting again.

Kai nodded stiffly, pretending to concentrate on his meal even though his mind was racing.

The idea of being watched was unsettling, and the fact that Hina and Akira were both so calm about it made him feel even more out of his depth.

In an attempt to steer the conversation away from the topic of being watched, Kai cleared his throat.

"Actually... speaking of strange things," he began, keeping his voice casual, "I saw Haruto at school today."

The moment the words left his mouth, both Hina and Akira turned to look at him, their expressions shifting from calm to something much more serious.

"You saw Haruto?" Hina asked, her voice sharp with surprise.

Akira's brow furrowed slightly, her usual calm demeanor faltering for the first time.

"Yeah," Kai said, nodding. "We had a small talk, but... something felt off. I don't know why, but he didn't seem like the Haruto I saw in that building."

The table fell silent for a moment as the weight of Kai's revelation hung in the air.

Both Hina and Akira exchanged a brief, knowing glance, and Kai had the sinking feeling that whatever was going on with Haruto, it was far more complicated than he realized....
