Chapter 95: The Partner

"Not at all, I need at least four hours of sleep. Trust me on this!"

I said confidently, "And there's something else... can you do me a favor? I want to investigate Elena and John's relationship in more detail, and find out whose child it really is. I saw John picking up the child, but my intuition tells me there's something fishy going on!"

"Okay!" Gabriel agreed readily.

"I have a photo of him picking up the child. I'll send it to you!"

As I spoke, I opened my phone and sent the photo to Gabriel.

Gabriel received the photo, took a quick glance, and nodded, "Alright, I'll verify it!"

After thanking Gabriel, I quickly got out of the car and went upstairs to put my handbag back in place.

When I returned to the room, Sean was still asleep in the same position.

The next day.

Sean went to the company full of energy, and after dropping off the kids, I drove to the agreed location to meet my partner.

Strangely, I felt a bit nervous but also excited and curious. It seemed like everyone knew this person and had a good relationship with him, except for me. I was eager to meet him.

Soon, I would find out what kind of person he was.

We agreed to meet at the same club where I had previously met Lawyer Han. Since I arrived early, I didn't go inside immediately but took a stroll along the path to the seaside. The sea breeze was gentle and extremely refreshing.

The last time I was here, Inara and I had walked along this beach, and I instantly fell in love with it.

Oddly, whenever I came here, I always felt like a pair of eyes were watching me, yet I could never see the person they belonged to.

This area was a bit far from the city, part of a newly developed coastal zone mostly filled with private villas and small clubs.

The last time I came was my first time here.

Before I got sick, this place hadn't been developed yet, but now the scenery was truly idyllic, like a paradise on earth.

Probably because it was still early, there were very few people on the beach. I found a lounge chair under a coconut tree, took a deep breath of the salty, fresh air, and felt utterly relaxed.

If nothing had happened, we could have bought a house here and lived a peaceful life as a family.

But there's no going back! I sighed softly and comforted myself, there's nothing to regret. If it was a mistake, I'll wait until everything is over and then take the kids to a place by the sea where spring flowers bloom, bring my parents along, and live a peaceful life! Since I had enough time, I made a video call to my parents, but only my mother was there. She said my father had gone to New Life Pharmaceuticals.

Through the screen, my mom scrutinized me with puzzled eyes, "Honey, are you really better? Why are you still so thin? Where are you now?"

She bombarded me with questions, "Are you alone? Can you talk?"

I quickly nodded, "Yes, I'm alone. I made an appointment with a friend here and came early to sit by the sea."

As I spoke, I turned the camera towards the sea.

"Mom, I'm really fine. It was nothing serious, I was just being melodramatic after staying at home for too long!"

I said with a bright smile.

My mom's eyes misted up a bit, and she sighed, muttering, "You shouldn't have gone so far away. It would have been so much better to stay close to us."

"There are no shoulds or shouldn'ts in this world. Apart from not being able to see you often, everything else is great!"

I said firmly, then asked with a mysterious smile, "Mom, did Dad really buy so many properties on the old street?"

"Is that even a question? You know your dad, once he sets his mind on something, no one can stop him. He's got a one-track mind!"

My mom said this, but her face was full of pride, "Actually, he had a plan all along. The redevelopment of the old street was his proposal. It's been years, and now they're finally adopting it!"

My mom's eyes sparkled with joy as she talked about this, clearly very happy.

"Dad's proposal?"

I was surprised.

Ever since I got married, I've been urging them to buy a house in North Sea City and move here, so we could be closer and not miss each other so much.

My mom was tempted at times, but my dad was adamant, always saying he couldn't leave his hometown. At that time, I was frustrated, thinking, what's so special about that old street? It's practically moldy, as my mom said, but my dad was stubborn, saying it was his turf and he had to defend it.

I couldn't persuade him, so I gave up.

Now it seems my dad had great foresight, like an old fox who'd cultivated for a thousand years.

He not only held onto his turf but also expanded it significantly.

I looked at my mom and asked, "Do we still have many shares in New Life Pharmaceuticals? I didn't know Dad had invested in it."

"Your dad never discusses his business decisions with the family. He invested in New Life Pharmaceuticals a long time ago, before you got married. He saw potential in the pharmaceutical industry and believed it would be a long-term investment. He initially bought some shares and... let's not talk about it!"

She abruptly changed the topic, "Are you almost at your meeting time?"

"Yes, I have an appointment with a friend, and I came early to sit by the sea." I didn't tell her the whole truth, not wanting to worry them about my situation.

"Do you know when you'll be coming?" My mom was always keen on this topic, asking every time we talked.

"Whenever the mood strikes!" I said casually.

Caroline's exams were over, and Gage's finals were done too. I just had a few things to wrap up before leaving.

"Alright, I'm waiting for you. Let me know what you want to eat, and I'll prepare it in advance! You can tell me anytime."

"Okay!" I smiled. She was already preparing, even though I hadn't decided when to leave. I didn't want to dampen her enthusiasm! After chatting a bit more, it was almost time, so I told my mom, "I have to go now. Talk to you later!"

After ending the call, I stretched and looked into the distance.

I saw a man standing on a rock not far away, facing the wind, his silhouette tall and strong.

Suddenly, my heart skipped a beat. That silhouette, why did it look so much like someone? I stared at the figure intently, hoping to see his face, but the man was focused, gazing at the horizon, with no intention of turning around.
