Chapter 37: Liam's Fourth Mistake

Joahna Moriarty pushed open the doors of Hell's Kitchen, the soft murmur of conversation and clinking of glasses enveloping her as she stepped inside. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the bar was a stark contrast to the cold night outside. She shrugged off her coat and made her way to the bar, her eyes scanning the room.

Elise was behind the counter, mixing a drink with practiced ease. Her eyes met Joahna's, and a charming smile spread across her face. Joahna took a seat at the bar, feeling a strange mix of curiosity and caution.

"Good evening, detective," Elise said, her voice smooth and inviting. "What can I get you tonight?"

Joahna lit a cigarette, taking a drag before answering. "Bourbon, neat."

Elise nodded and poured the drink, sliding the glass across the bar with a deft hand. "Rough day?" she asked with an earnest smile.
