Power of the World

Hello Everyone! Globster here and as promised, I will be dropping this chapter to shed light on the power system of the world.

If you're not new here, you might have heard a few words that sound confusing, like "Caster", "Contractual Mage" , "Contract" , "Expert-level mage" and any other thing that falls between.

Do not be confused, and if you are, be prepared to be Unconfused? Inconfused? Not confused? Ah yes, that's the word, prepare to be enlightened.

Everything below will help you go through the story properly, and if you're still confused, you can ask questions in the comments. Thank you my lovelies and enjoy.

Magic

Magic permeates the very fabric of existence. Those gifted with the ability to harness this power are known as mages, and they are divided into distinct classes, each representing a unique approach to the mystic arts. The Mage Classes of Arcane Days are

Innate Mages

Innate Mages are raw and untamed, their magic flowing naturally and unpredictably through them. Their powers are inextricably linked to their emotions, causing magical effects to manifest spontaneously based on their emotional state. An Innate Mage might cause flowers to bloom in a moment of joy or summon a storm in a fit of rage.

This lack of control makes them formidable warriors, as their magic can turn the tide of events in unexpected ways. With time and self-awareness, Innate Mages learn to harness their emotions, directing their magic with greater intent and precision.

Primal / Kinetic Mages

Primal Mages are the dancers of the magical world, channeling their power through physical movements and gestures. Each spell is a carefully choreographed motion, a dance that binds magic to their will. Their connection to their bodies is profound, and they undergo rigorous physical training to perfect their craft. A Primal Mage might leap into the air to summon a gust of wind or strike a pose to ignite a fire.

This form of magic is demanding, requiring not only physical strength but also agility and precision. Most Primal mages are often well built as they are constantly growing the strength of their bodies to be able to handle higher-level magic.

Caster Mages

Caster Mages are the scholars and artisans of magic, using external tools to focus and direct their power. Their tools, wands, staves, runes, and incantations—act as conduits, allowing them to perform a wide range of complex spells.

A flick of a wand might conjure a shield, while a carefully drawn rune could unleash a torrent of water. Caster Mages are versatile and adaptable, able to craft spells to suit any situation. Their reliance on these tools, however, means they must always protect them, for without them, their magic is diminished.

Contractual Mages

Contractual Mages are the diplomats and negotiators of the magical world, forming pacts with other mages to share and enhance their abilities. These pacts involve the exchange of magical signatures and promises, binding their magic together in powerful ways.

A Contractual Mage might gain the ability to heal by forming a pact with a healer or amplifying their fire spells through an alliance with a fire mage. Their strength lies in cooperation and trust, making them invaluable allies in any magical endeavor. However, the terms of their pacts can be restrictive, and they must navigate these agreements with care.

Note: Contracts and pacts are not limited to only mages, as far as the person, or creature they make a deal with possesses something to give, contracts are possible.

Dependent Mages

These are mages that cannot utilize spells without depending on some sort of connection. While in a broader sense, all mages are Dependent, but these types of mages are helpless without their connections. They can be further classified into two; Bonded and Dominator mages

Bonded Mages

Bonded Mages create deep and lasting magical connections with others, allowing them to share the costs and benefits of spellcasting. Acting as the primary controller of magical flow within their group, a Bonded Mage can orchestrate complex spells that draw from the strength of their companions.

This collaborative approach makes their magic efficient and powerful, as they distribute the burden of spellcasting among themselves. The strength of a Bonded Mage grows with the bonds they form, making unity their greatest asset. However, their dependence on these connections means they are vulnerable if the bonds are broken.

Dominator Mages

Dominator Mages, who wield their power through the control of weaker mages. By establishing connections with submissive mages, a Dominator Mage can stabilize and amplify their magic, channeling immense energy through these conduits. This supreme control allows them to perform feats of magic that are both awe-inspiring and terrifying.

However, the ethical implications of such dominance are complex, and the balance of power must be carefully maintained. A Dominator Mage must navigate the fine line between guidance and exploitation, ensuring their connections remain strong and stable.

The Flow of Mana

Mana, the essence of all magic, makes up every living and non-living thing in the world of Elaris. It is a spiritual quality that inhabits all objects, places, and people. It flows through every mage, fueling their abilities.

Each class draws upon this energy in unique ways, shaping the spells they cast and the methods they use. In Elaris, the diversity of magical approaches ensures a rich and dynamic tapestry of magical possibilities.

Mana wells

All mages have something called a mana well, the larger the mana well, the higher the chances of the mage advancing in the hierarchy and learning more complex spells

Spells

Spells are graded based on their effectiveness, complexity, and mana consumption.

Basic Spells: Simple and fundamental spells that are easy to learn and require minimal mana.

Intermediate Spells: More complex spells that require greater control and understanding of magic. Destructive spells of this level are comparable to hand grenades or a small explosion capable of destroying a house.

Advanced Spells: Powerful spells that require significant magical energy and skill. Destructive spells of the grade are comparable to a car explosion or a large explosion

Expert Spells: Highly potent spells that can affect large areas or have complex effects. Destructive spells of this grade are comparable to at least an artillery shell or an airstrike

Master Spells: Extremely powerful spells that can have devastating effects or grand beneficial impacts. Destructive spells of this grade are comparable to a strategic bombing, a major natural disaster, and at most a nuclear bomb

Legendary Spells: Legendary spells that are known by very few and have world-altering consequences.

Transcendent Spells: Mythical spells that transcend normal magical boundaries, often with effects beyond mortal comprehension.

Mages Ranks

Mages are ranked based on the spells they have mastered, the time they spent learning, and most importantly, the size of their mana pool.

Novice: Beginners who have just started learning magic. They have basic knowledge of magical theory and can perform simple spells. They are capable of Minor elemental manipulation, basic healing, and simple enchantments.

Apprentice: Mages who have completed their initial training and are under the guidance of a more experienced mage. Intermediate spells, elemental control, enhanced healing,

Adept: Competent mages who can perform advanced spells and understand complex magical theories. Advanced elemental manipulation, moderate illusion magic, minor summoning, protective wards.

Expert: Highly skilled mages recognized for their expertise and deep understanding of magic. Mastery of a single element, complex summoning, powerful wards, advanced healing, and illusion spells.

Master: Mages who have achieved a high level of mastery in multiple areas of magic. Multi-element manipulation, high-level summoning, complex illusion spells, and powerful offensive and defensive magic.

Archmage: Elite mages known for their exceptional power and knowledge, often holding positions of great influence. Supreme control over all elements, grand-scale summoning, reality-altering illusions, ultimate healing spells, and near-impenetrable wards.

Sage: Ancient and wise mages who possess profound knowledge of the magical and mystical arts, often advisors to kings and rulers. For a mage to become a sage, he or she has to have at least two transcendent-level spells in their arsenal

They shouldn't be a spell that a Sage should not be capable of using with the exception of transcendent level spells, and for this main reason, Sages seldom fight against each other. They would cancel each other's spells out and end up fighting a battle of attrition or trading transcendent which could take weeks, months even.

Besides most Sages refuse to participate in world affairs because what they see at heart truly is to study magic and mana.

Celestial Mage: Mages who are said to have a divine connection, wielding magic that transcends mortal understanding, magic of the Gods. While Celestial mages sound all-powerful, they aren't necessarily more powerful than Sages.

Their source of mana is just more potent and pure than that of every other mage. But a fully realized mage is capable of being a threat to the entire realm of Elaris

Note: While the requirement for mage ranking may depend on spells, experience, and knowledge, a large mana pool is required to advance. After all, gaining so much knowledge on spells would be useless if one can't cast them due to lack of mana.

And you might be asking: "What of other warriors? Are they all mages?"

And the answer is "of course ". There are other types of warriors in the world of Elaris, and they aren't mages. "And no, they aren't all mages" While they do possess mana, they cannot use spells, not everyone is capable of using spells.

They are called weapon masters. They are swordsmen, archers, lancers, calvaries, and any other warrior that uses weapons. I don't need to expand much on them, they are just like any other weapon masters.

Thank you all for reading, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Till we meet again.
