Chapter 71: Confused

Xiao Bai and Lil'blackie surveyed the immobilized team.

Team Leader Zhang lay unconscious, his breath shallow. Xiao Bai glanced at Lil'blackie and said, "Should we scan his memories to see why they're here?"

Lil'blackie nodded, her eyes reflecting a mix of determination and concern. "Let's try."

Xiao Bai began the delicate task of scanning Team Leader Zhang's memories.

However, as he delved into Zhang's mind, he found the reason for their mission had been purposely erased.

"This is strange," Xiao Bai murmured, frowning. "His memories have been tampered with. The reason why they're here is missing."

Lil'blackie pondered for a moment before suggesting, "Let's try using the merged domain again. Maybe then we can uncover the hidden memories."

They activated the merged domain, and a wave of power surged through the room, enveloping Team Leader Zhang and the immobilized team.

The air shimmered, and as if a mist was lifted, Xiao Bai found himself plunging deeper into Zhang's mind.

Suddenly, the memories became clearer.

Xiao Bai saw fragmented images of a mission briefing, shadowy figures, and finally, a name that echoed in the depths of Team Leader Zhang's consciousness: Apostle.

Xiao Bai's eyes widened in shock. "They're here to find someone called Apostle," he said, his voice tinged with disbelief.

"Apostle?" Lil'blackie repeated, equally stunned. "Who or what is that?"

...

...

On the other side, Lin Xiao continued browsing through the books in the futuristic library. Most of the information was redacted, leaving him with more questions than answers.

Frustrated and confused, Lin Xiao pondered how he could increase his authority.

He considered that if this truly was the future, he might need to perform more significant deeds to gain higher authority.

However, the uncertainty of whether this was the future or just an elaborate trap left him in a state of indecision.

Deciding to seek more direct answers, Lin Xiao approached the projection of the blonde lady at the reception desk. "What is the God-King?" he asked.

The projection responded in a flat, automated tone, "God-King is God-King."

Lin Xiao was speechless. He sighed, realizing that getting straightforward answers from the projection was unlikely.

He thought deeply about his situation. If this was indeed the future, there must be a way to either return here or at least understand more about his place in this timeline.

Lin Xiao decided to focus on what he could access. He found a section in the library dedicated to "Early History of the God-King" and began skimming through the few unredacted passages.

The text described a figure who emerged during a period of great turmoil, uniting the fragmented human factions against monstrous invasions and internal strife.

This God-King was portrayed as a savior, a being of immense power and wisdom, surrounded by twelve apostles who were instrumental in maintaining peace and order.

Lin Xiao's mind raced. Could this God-King have a connection to any present-day powers he knew?

Shutting the book, Lin Xiao felt a surge of determination. He needed a way to verify if this was truly the future or an elaborate trap.

An idea struck him—if he could find historical records close to his current date, he might be able to predict events and verify them once he returned.

Lin Xiao approached the nearest bookshelf and began searching for recent historical records. After a few minutes, he found a section labeled "Early 21st Century Natural Disasters." He quickly scanned the titles until he found a book detailing earthquakes.

Flipping through the pages, Lin Xiao found a section describing a significant earthquake that was supposed to occur next week in his current time. The entry provided detailed information about the earthquake's magnitude, location, and impact.

Lin Xiao's eyes widened. "If this earthquake happens as described, I'll know this is the future," he muttered to himself. This would give him a crucial piece of evidence to determine the authenticity of this strange place.

Satisfied with his plan, Lin Xiao closed the book and placed it back on the shelf. He needed to return to his own time to verify the prediction. But first, he had to find a way out of this library and back to the dungeon he came from.

Taking a deep breath, Lin Xiao approached the reception desk again. "How do I leave this place?" he asked the projection of the blonde lady.

The projection responded, "To exit the library, proceed to the main entrance and use your library card to unlock the portal."

Lin Xiao looked around and spotted a grand set of metallic doors that suddenly appeared at the far end of the library.

Clutching the library card he had received earlier, he walked towards the doors. As he approached, the card began to glow softly. He swiped it against a small panel next to the doors, and with a soft hum, the doors swung open, revealing a swirling portal of light.

Taking one last glance at the futuristic library, Lin Xiao stepped through the portal. The blinding light enveloped him, and he felt the familiar sensation of being pulled through time and space.

Moments later, he found himself back in the dark, cavernous dungeon, the sound of rushing water echoing in the distance.

Lin Xiao looked at the card in his hand as it disintegrated before his eyes. He was confused.

Was that library really part of the dungeon or something else entirely?

The mystery deepened as he wondered if Li Jing and the others had also encountered the library. But he hadn't found any trace of them there.

He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He needed to focus. He had to find Li Jing and Wang Lei and 'save' them, as well as find a way to reunite with Xiao Bai and Lil'blackie.

Lin Xiao navigated the winding passages of the dungeon, his mind racing with plans and possibilities.

He carefully examined his surroundings, looking for any clues or signs of the people he was searching for. The walls of the dungeon were damp, the air thick with the smell of moss and the distant sound of dripping water.

The dim light from his torch cast eerie shadows on the stone walls, making every corner look potentially treacherous.

As he moved deeper into the dungeon, he came across an area that seemed recently disturbed. The ground was uneven, and there were signs of a struggle—broken stones, scattered debris, and faint bloodstains leading further into the darkness.

"This must be where they were taken," Lin Xiao murmured to himself, his resolve hardening. He followed the trail, moving swiftly but cautiously, his senses heightened for any signs of danger.

The trail led him to a large, iron door embedded in the rock. The door looked ancient, covered in rust and grime, but it was slightly ajar.

"Another door," Lin Xiao sighed and pushed it open, the door creaking loudly in the silence of the dungeon.
