Chapter 24: The new King Arthur

"So, what you are not saying, is that there was someone else who could replace you?" Artie laughed at Sir Kay's question. He didn't sound like he was saying it as a jab, but that he was actually curious. 

"Oh, I'll never know. Not until I die I guess. They could have had a whole list of others that they wanted instead, but some spirit decided that they wanted to save me from my previous fate, and took me and dropped me here." Artie chuckled, while everyone else at the table went white. 

"The spirits did that? I mean, I guess I assumed, but wow. And they asked for nothing in return?" Artie raised an eyebrow at Sir Galahad. 

"What do you mean they asked for nothing? They did ask for something in return, they were just being coy about it." Lady Morgan was the first to get it. 

"The throne." She whispered, and Artie nodded.
