Chapter 176: She's The Only One Left in Her Family

Silence descended.

Fu Hanjiang looked at the small woman in his arms. She stubbornly kept her eyes closed, refusing to look at him, her eyes red and still brimming with tears.

Were they from physical pain, or were they shed for someone else?

The thought made his gaze grow cold.

"Get out of the car."

He released her, got out first, then walked around to the passenger side and leaned in to lift her up.

In that instant, Sheng Xiangsi shivered in his arms.

Fu Hanjiang noticed, frowning, "What's wrong?"

"..." Sheng Xiangsi shook her head, not speaking.

Though she said nothing, Fu Hanjiang could guess—he had lost control earlier and been too rough. He must have hurt her.

He quickened his pace, carrying her from the garage back into the house, placing her on the bed in the master bedroom.

He reached out, intending to smooth her disheveled hair, but Sheng Xiangsi turned her face away, avoiding his touch.

Fu Hanjiang paused, stiffly withdrawing his hand.

After a moment, he said, "Rest a bit, I'll go run a bath."

He stood and went to the bathroom.

As soon as the sound of running water began, Sheng Xiangsi opened her eyes, her gaze heavy with mist and reddened.

Afraid he might come out at any moment, she threw off the covers, jumped out of bed, and rushed to the door, quickly leaving the room.

After filling the tub, Fu Hanjiang went to the walk-in closet, grabbed some pajamas, and returned to the bathroom. Then, he headed back to the bedroom to fetch Sheng Xiangsi.

"Xiangsi, come..."

He had just sat down and reached to lift the covers when he froze, breaking out in a cold sweat.

Raising his arm, he pulled back the blanket—the bed was empty, no trace of Sheng Xiangsi.

Where had she gone?

"Xiangsi?"

Fu Hanjiang immediately searched the entire house, but she was nowhere to be found.

Exiting the room, he scoured the entire Silver Beach property, but there was still no sign of her.

Where had she gone?

Fu Hanjiang grabbed his phone and called her.

The ringtone sounded quickly.

Following the sound, he found Sheng Xiangsi's bag on the living room sofa, her phone inside—she hadn't taken it with her!

Not only that.

He soon discovered her coat was still hanging, her shoes still at the entrance—only a pair of indoor slippers were missing!

So, Sheng Xiangsi had left wearing just a thin sweater and indoor slippers?

Panic and regret quickly spread through him.

She hadn't even taken her phone, in an age where one relied on it for everything, how could she manage?

Fu Hanjiang closed his eyes heavily, rubbing his brow in frustration. He had lost control earlier in the car.

But soon enough, he realized—Sheng Xiangsi and Zhong Pei hadn't done anything last night.

As a man, and one with a girlfriend, he could tell from holding her.

He had misunderstood Sheng Xiangsi.

But he had been too angry to think straight!

Then, he had truly lost control. He didn't know why, but something he hadn't been passionate about years ago now made him unable to control himself when it came to her.

And on top of that, Sheng Xiangsi kept insisting that he wasn't as good as Zhong Pei!

So, it ended up like this.

Sheng Xiangsi was right, he was indeed a bastard!

But that wasn't important now. The crucial thing was to find Sheng Xiangsi!

Fu Hanjiang immediately went to the study and pulled up the house's surveillance footage, seeing that Sheng Xiangsi had left less than twenty minutes ago.

She had indeed left wearing just a thin sweater, huddled with her arms around herself, rushing out of the yard.

Heart pounding, Fu Hanjiang closed his eyes tightly. Where could she have gone?

She didn't have many friends in Jiangcheng, likely she went back to West Twelfth Street.

Without delay, Fu Hanjiang grabbed his car keys and drove out into the wind and snow.

"Xiangsi, Xiangsi!"

Arriving at West Twelfth Street, in front of the apartment Sheng Xiangsi had rented before, Fu Hanjiang knocked vigorously on the door, speaking in a low, pleading voice.

"It was my fault. Please open the door, okay?"

But no matter how hard he knocked or how much he apologized, there was no response from inside.

Fu Hanjiang assumed she was still very angry.

"Stop knocking!"

An annoyed neighbor opened their door, expressing their displeasure. "There's no one living there. Who are you knocking for?"

What?

Fu Hanjiang was stunned. No one living there? How could that be?

"The tenant moved out a while ago, and it hasn't been rented out again. Who are you looking for?"

The neighbor eyed him curiously. "You must not be very close with your friend, not even knowing if she lives here?"

With that, they shut their door with a bang.

"…"

Fu Hanjiang felt as if he had been hit hard, standing there in shock. Sheng Xiangsi didn't live here? She had moved out? How could that be? She never mentioned it!

His vision went dark again.

So where had Sheng Xiangsi gone?

Leaving the apartment, he contacted the property management and summoned Rong Zheng.

Upon returning to Silver Beach, the property management had pulled up surveillance footage showing Sheng Xiangsi getting into a taxi at the community gate.

Unfortunately, the footage only captured the first few digits of the license plate, not the whole thing.

"Rong Zheng!"

"Yes, Second Master." Rong Zheng understood his meaning. "I'll start looking immediately."

Knowing the car's color, model, and partial license plate was at least a lead.

Meanwhile, there was also the dance troupe to check. Sheng Xiangsi's colleagues might have information.

She hadn't been back in Jiangcheng long and didn't have many friends. He recalled she had a good friend in the dance troupe named Bai Ran.

She had stayed with Bai Ran once to avoid Zhong Pei. Yes... at the Urban Pearl!

Immediately, Fu Hanjiang drove to the Urban Pearl.

However, Bai Ran wasn't home. At this time, she was at the dance troupe, and like her colleagues, she hadn't seen Sheng Xiangsi.

Fu Hanjiang was at a loss. Where else could Sheng Xiangsi have gone?

She had no other connections in Jiangcheng. When she came to the Fu family, she was an orphan, the only one left in her family!

Wait!!

Fu Hanjiang's scalp tightened. There was still... Zhong Pei!

He was probably the person Sheng Xiangsi trusted most in Jiangcheng! Despite his reluctance to admit it, it was a fact.

Could Sheng Xiangsi have gone to him?

No time to waste, Fu Hanjiang went straight to Zhong Pei.

According to Qin Yanzhi's information, Zhong Pei hadn't been staying at home recently. Since his return, he had been living in a villa at Lion's Bay.

Arriving at Lion's Bay, Zhong Pei answered the door, surprised to see Fu Hanjiang's dark, hostile face.

"Second Brother Fu?"

What was he doing here?

Fu Hanjiang glanced at him and said nothing, striding inside, checking every corner, even preparing to go upstairs.

He seemed to be looking for something?

"Second Brother Fu!"

Zhong Pei grabbed his arm, "What are you doing?"

"You're stopping me? What's upstairs?"

Fu Hanjiang glanced upstairs, his emotions complicated. He both hoped and feared that Sheng Xiangsi was here!

He didn't want her to be in trouble, but he also didn't want her safety to be due to Zhong Pei!

"What?" Zhong Pei was confused. "I don't understand what you mean!"

"Second Master!"

At the entrance, Rong Zheng took a phone call, "We have news about Sheng Xiangsi!"
