"Good luck, Dan! Once you get your Pokemon, return quick!" Leaving the orphanage, the seven children and caretaker bid me a short farewell. All I did was nod and smile, showing that I was ready.
[Starter Pack Inbound!]
Once I left the premises of the orphanage, a screen appeared. Did I just obtain my golden finger? Without hesitation, I opened the starter pack, but I was shell-shocked.
[Starter Pack Opened!]
[Regional Starter Pokemon Customized Selector]
[Blessing of the Viridian]
[Mystic Eyes of Inquiries]
A regional starter Pokemon was a big deal. As its name implies, I was allowed to choose any starter regional and customize them to how I wanted. I could choose their best talents, egg moves, and abilities and make them shiny if I wanted to. A selector such as this was a blessing to have.
With twenty-four regional Pokemon to choose from, I had two in mind. The first was Battle Bond Greninja. To this day, I still remember how Ash used this Greninja in the Poke League, only to get robbed by Alain. Nevertheless, it was a hype moment, making Greninja one of my favorite Pokemon.
The second would be a starter in the Unova region, and I was more inclined to make this choice. It's a Snivy with a hidden ability, contrary.
I'm inclined to choose Snivy because, while Battle Bond may look cool if I use it, the side effects are something I'm not willing to bear. In the anime, when Ash uses that ability, whenever the Greninja takes damage, Ash will also feel the same pain. Only a masochist would do such a thing.
Besides, Snivy is less rare than Froakie in the Unova region. A Snivy would also attract less attention from criminals or borderline criminals who want to become one. I know it wouldn't outright avoid their sight, but it was less likely for one to steal such a Pokemon. It also meant my Pokemon wouldn't be shiny because I was weak.
While my position was enviable, it's a shame that I couldn't fully capitalize on its value. With the decision of the two, the Snivy was my choice, and for the egg moves, I had put it all for the heck of it.
I found it intriguing that nature was nonexistent compared to the game and that it didn't provide stat changes for how it was. IVS has been changed to talent, with seven talents known to the public.
From the order of a rainbow, with red being the worst and violet being the best, it was a reasonably simple system to remember. Talent had increased in level gain and had a higher overall base stat than those lower. EVs were slightly different, as they weren't as capped at 510.
Next was the Blessing of the Viridian. It was essentially the same power that Yellow has in the Pokemon manga. It allows me to heal Pokemon on my own and read the minds and memories of any Pokemon I encounter. This was an advantageous ability, as I was a mobile Pokemon center.
"Mystic Eyes of Inquiries..." I was partly joking about being transported by a kaleidoscope, but it seemed more accurate than ever.
These eyes of mine were now something better than those of a pokedex. Not much would be hidden if I wanted to see everything about a Pokemon. Their movesets, talent, level, and everything else I need to know will be explained to me with just a glance.
The starting gift was very generous, and I wouldn't be surprised if this were the only thing I would get moving forward.
Going back to my starter, the best talent I could get for it was blue. It was below indigo and violet.
Once done with my Snivy customization, I went to the hidden corner, ensuring no one would find out I somehow summoned a Pokemon.
In the narrow streets of Castelia city, there are many dumpsters and, most importantly, no one in view. There were some Trubbishes, but they were still asleep and lacking.
With no distraction, I summoned my Snivy, which came with a luxury ball.
"Snivy?" Upon being summoned, the Snivy woke up confused.
Without any hesitation, I tapped the luxury ball into the Snivy's nose, making a quick capture. My Snivy was captured without any resistance and in my ball. By capturing the Snivy, I gained my first Pokemon.
The emotion of joy started to sprout, and it had been a long time since I felt such an emotion. Even coming to this world and receiving all these gifts didn't bring this much joy.
As quickly as I entered the narrow street, I made an even quicker exit, not wanting to attract any attention.
I didn't want to keep Snivy inside the luxury ball any longer, so I sent it into my arms.
"Snivy." Confused about what had happened, it looked at me with curiosity and immediately smiled, taking a liking to me.
[Snivy]
[Level: 1]
[Gender: Male]
[Ability: Contrary]
[Potential: Blue]
[Moves: Tackle (U), Glare (U), Iron Tail (U), Mean Look (U), Mirror Coat (U), Sweet Scent (U), Synthesis (U), Twister (U)]
Using my eyes, I checked my moveset for my Snivy. Unlike in the game, where you were limited to four moves, the Pokemon here had no limit. The (U) beside my moves meant they were underdeveloped, as Snviy had just been born.
There were four tiers for Pokemon movesets. The first stage was underdeveloped, where Pokemon were incapable of fully utilizing their moves.
Next would be normal. As its name suggests, it allows Pokemon to use their moves generally without problems. This was the stage where most Pokemon were. It's rare to see any Pokemon get to the next level and get their wide boosts on one's power by a large margin.
Elite being the next not only increases one's potency but also conserves more energy for the move that a Pokemon makes.
And the final being mastered was something only the elite four and above would have. While it was rare, the league doesn't keep it a secret, as there was no harm for the public to know. Since moving to the elite was already outrageous enough, only those with potential could reach such a realm.
With the Snivy out, I patted its head and went to the Pokemon Center to check on its condition. Also, I had to sign up to become a Pokemon trainer.
Observing the city, I checked out all the Pokemon within my vision. Wild Pokemon around the city had low potential, with most red and others orange. The trainers were different. Most had yellow, while the more formidable had green.
Soon, I made my way to the Pokemon Center. Unlike in the game, where a Pokemon Center had a red top and a white base, the Pokemon Center in Castelia's interior was much more complex.
Castelia City has a reputation for its skyscrapers. The Pokemon Center is one of them, and upon entering it, its aesthetics amazed me. Unlike other buildings, the Pokemon Center had a more futuristic design.
"Welcome to the Pokemon Center. How may I help you?" Nurse Joy said, giving me a welcoming smile. Alongside her was an Audino.
[Audino]
[Level: 44]
[Gender: Female]
[Ability: Healer
[Potential: Blue]
[Moves: Healing Wish (E) Wish (E) Heal Pulse (E) Life Dew (E) Light Screen (N) Reflect (N) Protect (E) Rest (E) Snore (N)]
Other than my Snivy, this Audino has the same potential. All these healing moves and their protection would make anyone want to curse when attacking.
"Nurse Joy, my Snivy had hatched just moments ago. I want to check if there were any problems with it." Handing Nurse Joy my Snivy, Snivy looked at me, not wanting to leave.
"Snivy, Nurse Joy here is going to check on your condition. It shouldn't take too long for you to return." Seeing how worried Snivy was, I calmed him down and saw a smile coming from Nurse Joy. She found that our bond was great despite Snivy just hatching.
"Please wait a few moments, and we will complete your Snivy checkup shortly. Do you have your trainer ID with you?"
"I was about to ask for that. Snivy is my first Pokemon, and I came to ask for registration to become a trainer." I told Nurse Joy as she nodded in understanding.
Nurse Joy went to her desk, grabbing some paper and a device. The paper contained a contract that outlined the expectations and benefits of becoming a trainer.
According to the contract, trainers are prohibited from abusing or abandoning their Pokemon. If they are caught, their trainer's license will be revoked. Attacking a trainer with Pokemon will result in jail time. Killing a trainer Pokemon with the intent of doing so will serve jail time.
Reading the long list of rules it was a list of rules that required you to be more responsible for your Pokemon. Despite having a lot of rules, everything was easy to take in. Unless the trainer was batshit insane, I couldn't see a reason for a person to do such a thing.
The benefits of having such an ID include free services in the Pokemon Center for half a year when signing up to become a trainer. This free service only applies to new trainers under the age of fifteen.
Pokemon trainers would also receive a phone with an app. This app is a forum for Pokemon trainers and gives you access to information you normally wouldn't find. The trainers would receive their IDs. If someone other than the trainer used their account, the system would suspend the account.
Another benefit is that the trainer will get a discount on Pokemart. A ten percent discount greatly helps poor trainers, and considering that being a Pokemon trainer is a dangerous job, it requires a lot of money to nurture their Pokemon.
The best benefit of a trainer ID is that it allows one to get a job relating to using their Pokemon, and jobs that use their Pokemon generally earn a higher income.
After reading the contract, I signed it and handed it to Nurse Joy. Nurse Joy used her device, which looked like a scanner, to scan my face.
Doing so, Nurse Joy handed Audino the device, and Audino, surprisingly adept with a computer, printed out a plastic card.
"Your trainer card has been created, and you're now registered as a trainer. A trainer card has five ranks. You will be starting in the first rank for new trainers. Once your Pokemon reaches its second metamorphosis, you will be granted a chance to increase your rank," Nurse Joy explained as she handed me my card.
The second metamorphosis Nurse Joy had meant my Pokemon became level 20. In this reality, once a Pokemon reaches ten levels less than an evolution, a metamorphosis happens to the Pokemon, increasing its strength.
I suppose it happens every ten levels, since the tenth metamorphosis is known to be its final stage. Level 100 should be the maximum in the game, so this thought shouldn't be out of the ordinary.
"Audino!" Audino returned with my Snivy in hand.
"Snivy! Snivy!" Seeing me, my Snivy opened its hand and jumped toward me, relieved I was still there.
"Nurse Joy, before I leave, do you have any recommendations for food for my Snivy? I want him to have the best diet while he's young." While I did have some clues about what to get Snivy, hearing it from an expert like Nurse Joy was the better choice.
"Take this to the upper floor. Above us is a Pokemart, and everything you need could be obtained from there." Jotting down on a piece of paper, she handed it to me and gave me a list of what I should get.
"Thank you, Nurse Joy," I said as I bid farewell.
Honestly, I was prepared to be questioned by Nurse Joy when I had Snivy with me, but seeing that she didn't ask made me sigh in relief.
Snivy looked at me, wondering what was wrong, but I told her not to worry, as there was nothing to worry about.
Nurse Joy had written down a bunch of grass-type food and Moomoo milk for newborn Pokemon, such as my Snivy. I wonder how much of a dent my bank will tank. It's a great thing that the ten percent discount took effect.
