Once we walked up to the door, Charlotte knocked on it a few times. We both stood in silence and in the next few moments, the door opened from inside, revealing a man. His eyes I recognize as the same ones from the picture in the paper Charlotte showed me.
"Yes? Can I help you?" The man spoke in a casual tone, but I noticed that we was looking around behind us, as if making sure no one's around. His eyes also looked towards me, but he didn't seem all that interested.
"Sir, we ask for you to come with us." Charlotte however, spoke in a serious tone, not looking away from the man for a moment.
"Hahh... So you lot found me, huh." The man's expression clouds over as his voice is filled with resignation. "Alright. Do what you have to do."
"Thank you very much." Charlotte thanks the man before putting his arms around his back, letting Charlotte put him in hand cuffs. Once the cuffs were around his wrists, the cuffs emitted a soft green glow to it.
"Charlotte? Why is it glowing?"
"Ah, this is to prevent magic users from using their mana. The cuffs are draining his mana, essentially rendering him as just a normal human." She explains the concept of the cuffs as she escorts the man back to the car with me following by her side.
"What happens when he's out of mana though?"
"Ah, don't worry. These cuffs only drain a certain amount of mana, allowing him to still be able to co-operate." The way she said 'these cuffs' makes me believe that maybe there's other types of them?
"What happens if the cuffs drain all of his mana?" I ask, curious about what would happen.
"He's fall unconscious. In some cases, people can die but it's quite-"
"Hnng!" Suddenly, cutting off Charlotte's words, I felt a suddenly pain pierce my shoulder followed by a 'bang' sound before the pain quickly shoots up my arm. I quickly grab hold of my arm reflexively only for my hand to be met with my blood. What's happening?
"Get down!" But during my confusion, Charlotte pulls me behind the wall from before. The man that we put in cuffs was now suddenly nowhere to be seen. "Let me have a look." Charlotte slowly removes my hand from my shoulder as I watch more of my blood spill out of the sudden hole that has appeared. However, in the next few seconds, it began sealing up just like I thought. However this is the first time that I've seen my body heal itself...
"You're not hurt?" Despite her seeing my arm now healed, her voice is still filled with concern.
"It feels a bit warm, but that's about it." To be honest, I'm not even sure if the warmth came from the sudden hole in my arm or Charlotte's warmth as she holds it. "What happened?"
"We've been ambushed. Probably other vampires."
"Other vampires?"
"Remember when I said normal vampires don't bleed? It's why I couldn't pick up their scent." As she says that, another 'bang' sound could be heard as the wall we're leaning on vibrates; almost like something collided with it. "Wait right here, I won't be long." Suddenly, Charlotte leaves me behind, running out form the cover of the wall and heading straight to where the loud banging sounds are coming from.
I know she said for me to wait, but I can't help but peek out from the side of the wall. And when I do, I watch as Charlotte leaps up into the air onto one of the roofs. She made it look like it was nothing... Suddenly, I hear another 'bang' coming from the roof she just landed on as I watch her engage with someone, although I can't really make out who it is.
It didn't take long for Charlotte to return with someone in her hands. Their body completely limp as Charlotte drags their body along the ground. The man looks incredibly beaten up, looking to be dead, however, Charlotte doesn't appear to have even a single scratch on her, as her azure hair blows in the moonlight. I'm really glad she's okay.
"You okay?" Despite her going in to fight, she asks me that instead?"
"Pfft. Yeah. I'm alright." I couldn't help but chuckle at how kind she is.
"Good. We might've lost the man, but we did manage to grab this." She gestures with the man in her hand, his body still unconscious. "I'll let Lisa handle the rest, but I doubt this will complete the mission. Hahh~" Despite capturing someone, I guess since it wasn't the person we needed, we won't be retuning home...
"So we're going to go find the man you cuffed?"
"Yes. I still have his scent, but with this new development, I think interrogating this one would be better. I don't want you to run into anything like that again..." She looks down at my arm, but again, it's all healed. I still don't understand why she's so concerned about it, I heal just fine. But if Charlotte wants to end it here for now, then I won't complain.
