"Your turn, you can collect your teams," announced Senju, dispelling the slightly nervous atmosphere of anticipation and promptly disappeared.
Glancing at each other, the six tokubetsu jonin and jonin stood up together and headed to meet their students. Following an unspoken agreement, the more experienced pair of shinobi entered the classroom first, followed by the others, carefully concealing their own excitement.
"Team Five, follow me," commanded Kanade, singling out the trio that had risen, and calmly walked out into the corridor.
While Inuzuka and Ishi perfectly matched expectations with their appearance, considering the available photographs, the kunoichi barely managed to refrain from fitting herself into the door frame upon noticing the fully risen Nara out of the corner of her eye.
The only thought that flashed through her mind was "huge!!!" Kanade considered her 164 centimeters to be a normal average height for a kunoichi, but this Nara not only was much broader than her but also towered almost a whole head above her! Twelve years old? Bullshit!
At twelve, only Akamichi become such hulks, and not all of them, let alone the slender and delicate Naras! And especially the small square of the photograph of his head did not convey the dimensions of everything else!
The short walk through the corridors to the exit gave Hyuga time to come to terms with the fact that her future student looked her age. At least part of the taijutsu now didn't seem so unbelievable. Standing in front of the academy, the kunoichi stepped aside and waited for the students to join her.
"So, team, our regular meeting place will be training ground number fifty-three, reserved for you until you become chunin, so the first task is to get there within five minutes," Kanade indifferently informed them and added, "If I were you, I wouldn't relax, because even shinobi headbands don't confirm your genin status yet — I'll be the one to decide, not some simple tests at the academy."
And before anyone from the trio could object, the tokubetsu jonin used shunshin, leaving the gaping genin behind. At least, two of them, because the last one's mask concealed any grimaces. Appearing on the training ground, the kunoichi smiled expectantly — although the order was to take them all, no one said that graduates couldn't be made to sweat a little!
After all, a shinobi must be able to see through the deception and lies. However, Kanade was not allowed to revel in her little trick for too long — a small wind with a swirl of leaves rose nearby, heralding the end of the shunshin, and before the surprised girl appeared Nara, holding his teammates by the scruffs like misbehaving kittens.
"It seems I won't have to send you back to the academy," Kanade nodded satisfactorily, instantly overcoming her surprise.
"Actually, for the past two years, all teams graduating from the academy are considered successful and do not undergo additional mentor checks," Ryo announced in a deep voice, releasing his comrades, "this year is no different, so we ALREADY became a genin team, and your intimidation tactics are meaningless."
Looking at the surprised and joyful faces of Ishi and Inuzuka, Kanade felt that she was beginning to hate "geniuses."
"Tch, spoiled all the fun! Since the Mr. Know-It-All enlightened you, then all we have left is to introduce ourselves to each other, after which I will conduct a combat skills check," restraining her irritation, the kunoichi sat down on the ground and gestured for the students to follow suit.
"My name is Kanade Hyuga, and from this day on, I am the mentor of Team Five. I love training, spending time with friends, and taking care of flowers. I hate men who consider women weaker, rude people, and traitors. My dream is to achieve the rank of jonin solely through my talents, without relying on kekkei genkai abilities, and to have a large family."
Following Hyuga's gesture, Tsume continued the introduction.
"My name is Tsume Inuzuka. I love studying clan techniques and honing my taijutsu skills, spending time with my partner Kuroomaru, who is currently sick, and exploring new scents. I hate being mistaken for boys, cats, and weaklings. My ultimate dream is to prove to our entire clan the power and ability to be a leader alongside Kuroomaru."
