Chapter 3: Carried by Fate

Part 1

-Zafir's POV-

The battle near Moorwatch castle was won.

My father left Senjar under General Hudson's command and took me with him under the leadership of Duke Kaer to fight the demon army, whose target was Moorwatch Castle.

Moorwatch Castle was the only castle on the border between demons and human territory, located on the bank of River Moor.

If the demons had succeeded in taking control of this castle, as they already had Maldor, the whole province would have been in danger.

After winning the battle and slaughtering all the demon soldiers, Duke Kaer ordered his men to march towards Maldor to reunite with General Hudson and push the demons back once again to the other side of the River Moor.

Upon hearing this news, I was delighted, as I had this feeling that I could not just ignore. I was getting anxious anout Senjar. He knew how to fight and how to defend himself.

But still, He was young and this was the first major battle in his life.

And in that moment, I left him alone. That was my regret.

So I wanted to reunite with him to eliminate my regret.

Since childhood, I have seen him train with swords, bows, and spears.

He was good at everything, and he learned really fast.

Sometimes he would take books from his father's room and hide to study them. He would implement those lessons that he took from books into training.

He would surprise everyone; he was a genius, at least to me. I wanted to protect him.

He was also like me, the son of a concubine. We could not inherit anything since we were not born from official wives.

The law denied inheritance rights to children born to concubines. However, in the absence of legitimate heirs, the eldest illegitimate son could inherit the estate.

He would try to impress father on many occasions; he wanted to be acknowledged by him, and he wanted father to be proud of him, but father really never paid attention to him.

When he was 13, he changed. He would sit all by himself all day and prefer to be alone rather than in someone else's company. I would still bother him from time to time so that he would not feel alone.

Sometimes in the middle of the day, he would disappear and come back in the evening, since no one would notice him even if he was present, so no one would question him beside his mother.

I didn't really know, but my mind was wandering here and there and was filled with the thoughts of my half brother.

I was feeling strange. Something was amiss.

My suspicions were confirmed when the scouts reported the annihilation of the army sent to take Maldor.

I was flabbergasted. The earth trembled violently beneath my feet.

Part 2

-Senjar's POV-

The raging currents of the River Moor carried me far from the horrors of war, I was injured and tried to hold my ground but became unconcious.

When I opened my eyes, I was lying on solid ground. My body was weak, and as I had lost a lot of blood, I healed myself while I was being carried by the river currents. Since my magic was not strong, it took a lot of time and energy to heal the wound.

I tried to gather my strength and lift my body up to see where fate had taken me.

I was in the forest, and I took notice of my surroundings.

River currents have left me from water to land. I was lucky, as this river has been the death of many.

A cold dread washed over me as I instinctively reached for my hip and felt only empty leather. My sword was gone!.

Then I remembered the last stages of my fight with the dark elf and realized that I had lost the sword at that moment.

Instinctively, I reached for my back and was reassured when I found the dagger present.

One thing was certain: I would never be able to forget this horror that I faced.

My mind was going back to the tragedy of war, the screams of wounded men, and the burning of my comrades under the dragon fire.

But I survived; this was the time I truly came to value these words of my beloved mother:

"Nothing is more important than life."

Part 3

I was able to subdue my hunger through the friuts that I found on the trees in the forest near the river.

My armor was broken so i left it behind.

With only dagger as a weapon, I moved forward hoping to get out of this hell hole.

Part 4

I have heard the stories of the old forest and its nightmares.

They say it was the second-most dangerous forest on the Lyrica Continent. Only strong adventurers wandered this forest in party to hunt monsters.

The monsters that reside in this forest are more stronger and more powerful than the others on the continent, aside from the northern forest.

Suddenly, I heard screams from deep inside the forest. My heart started throbbing.

Without waiting, I rushed to the side from where i heard the scream.

Reaching close, I reduced my speed and continuously move forward while holding the dagger strongly in my right hand.

I saw ugly green creatures, abundant in numbers, who had surrounded the party of 6 humans, consisting of 2 females and 4 males.

Goblins are weak monsters, it should not have been possible for the adventurers who were exploring the old forest to fall into the hands of these weak monsters.

But their numbers were the only possible answer to this question.

There was nothing that i could do to help. I only had a dagger as a weapon, it would be successful if I intervened.

With this thought, I decided not to interfere.

There was a goblin shaman who could use magic, he was leading this pack of goblins.

Monsters could evolve into higher forms once they were strong enough and eligible. For humans, they could become powerful through harsh training. Some were born with blessings, while others were not.

Soon goblins started the slaughter of the human party. Humans fought with their remaining strength but failed and were killed by these creatures.

Goblins killed the males and left the females wounded, It was certain that this would happen.

Goblins would capture the females from settlements, villages, or anywhere they were present and kill all the males. They would breed with females to increase their numbers.

I could feel the regret of my choice, but there was nothing I could do. I would have also died if I had tried to play hero.

After capturing female adventurers, goblins gathered the loot and left.

Now that the sun started to hide as night was approaching, I came out of hiding and moved towards the corpses.

Luckily, before moving, I found a sword lying near the tree behind which I was hiding moments ago. I picked up the sword; it was in good shape.

It was clear it was only used for a short period of time. Either the wielder died early or lost it during the fight.

After putting the sword in its sheath, I decided to look for a safe place to spend the night.
