Chapter 36: 36. Named Swords
Seeing Zoro's swords break, B feels guilty and they stop the match. He offers to buy some swords for Zoro but Zoro refuses to be given swords.
"Instead of swords, it's better if you give me money so I can buy my own swords. After all, I need to buy the swords in the Land of Iron. I doubt the swords here are the same as the ones in the Land of Iron."
"That may be right~, damn ya fool~. So how much, damn fool~?"
Zoro honestly says the prices of his broken swords. After all, B may know the average prices of swords in the Land of Iron, or at least the Raikage will try to find out. So it's better to be honest now.
B then takes Zoro to his house to take the money for the swords and for agreeing to the match as they agreed on. Zoro doesn't win, so he doesn't get more money.
After that, Zoro quickly bids farewell to B, saying he needs to return to the Land of Iron quickly to order new swords.
It's better to leave now before the 4th Raikage gets more interested in him and causes him more problems.
"Will you be fine traveling without swords, ya fool~?"
"Yeah. At least I can defend myself without using swords. As long as I don't get attacked by someone as strong as you, then I'll be fine."
Zoro leaves Kumogakure the next day because he wants to rest first. He also needs to buy supplies for his trip and a hidden village like this has many useful things including something like food pills which he buys just for emergencies.
Food pills are useful, but Zoro still prefers having real food. He has tried them, but it didn't feel like eating at all even though he got enough energy from them, so he doesn't really like them.
After leaving Kumo, Zoro visits a few towns to leave traces as if he is going back to the Land of Iron. He gathers information while in those towns to see if he can find missing nins again.
Then after finally leaving the Land of Lightning, Torao gives Zoro his new swords. These are the swords that have been prepared for him since he was reincarnated here.
"Wow, they really look like the real ones."
"Of course. They are the exact copies of the real ones, not imitations or replicas. Actually, they can even be called the real ones that get transferred to this world."
Zoro's new swords are what the original Zoro has in One Piece. Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu, and Enma.
"The cursed sword, Sandai Kitetsu. It really gives off an evil vibe. But this one is really wild. It already tries to eat my haki now."
He hasn't used his haki, but he can already feel Enma's hunger already.
Wado Ichimonji feels the most normal, but it's still one of 21 Great Grade Swords, so its quality is top notch.
"I need to get used to them first, especially Enma. It would be a disaster if I got my Haki sucked dry while fighting."
Zoro decides to stay in a small town to train and get used to his new swords. He has enough money to live a few months without working, so he can just stay here for a while.
To get used to his swords, Zoro tries them one by one. He tries Wado Ichimonji first and is very surprised by its sharpness when he uses it to cut a tree. It can't even be compared with his previous swords.
"So this is the level of Great Grade Swords. Seems like I was underestimating it too much. I never thought it would be this much sharper and it's also a lot sturdier than my previous swords despite being a little lighter. Moreover, it's very comfortable to wield."
Zoro swings the sword at a rock and stops before hitting the rock. It doesn't touch the rock, but the rock gets cut in half cleanly. He smiles widely seeing it.
"Never thought using better swords could change the game this much."
Zoro then switches to Sandai Kitetsu. It is not as sharp as Wado Ichimonji, but there's something different that he feels from it.
"It wants blood?"
That's the feeling that Zoro gets, so he searches for an animal to test it. He finds a boar and kills it with Sandai Kitetsu.
When he slashes the boar, he can feel something akin to excitement from the sword and it even tries to affect his mind.
"How cheeky."
Of course, Zoro doesn't get affected and moves on to try Enma after cleaning the blood and storing the boar carcass.
He tries Enma without using Haki first and it doesn't feel as good as Wado Ichimonji. But everything changes once he feeds it with Haki.
"Ugh!"
Just like when the original Zoro used Enma for the first time, he also got his haki sucked very strongly by Enma that his arm seems to lose its muscles.
"Tch! You are my sword, I am your master, so behave and don't fuck with me!"
Zoro increases his Haki power and regains the control back. Enma still tries to eat his haki, so he keeps fighting it. After an hour or so, he gets tired and puts Enma in the scabbard.
"It will take a while before I can fully control this naughty guy."
His training to get used to his new swords starts. But conquering Enma isn't as easy as he thought. It's so difficult to put it under control as it always wants to run wild.
However, his difficult training turns into a blessing in disguise. He can feel his Haki is getting stronger as he tries to conquer Enma because he fights it with his Haki.
The fight over Haki with Enma actually helps him to use the Advanced Haki that gave him a difficult time to train because his Haki is getting stronger each day now as he fights with Enma.
"You sure are a wild sword, but you really help me to grow. That's why I will surely conquer you and make you submit to me, fully."
He puts all his mind into his practice, but after 2 months, he hits a wall. His improvement stops even though he hasn't fully conquered Enma.
"Torao, do you have any idea of what I should do now?"
"Why don't you ask your Instructor Moss Head in the genjutsu world?"
"You know that he is just a projection of the real Zoro's skills, right? He is not the real Zoro and he doesn't even have consciousness. When did he ever answer my questions? He could only repeat what he taught me. He can't converse like a normal human."
"Ah, right, he is just a projection, he doesn't have a soul, an illusion, I forgot. Well, isn't the answer always the same whenever you hit a wall? Just fight."
".... Right, I'll just blast a few people to help me figure it out. Let's hunt again, Torao."
Unable to find a clear answer, Zoro decides to do as Torao says. They start hunting again and as usual, they are gathering information first.
'Hmm? Akatsuki? I didn't know they already formed their group. They are even wanted already. Though they still only have their 3 founders in the Bingo Book. Well, I'm still not sure what to do with them, but I won't hold back if they become my enemies.'
Zoro tries to find suitable prey for his hunt this time. He needs someone strong but not strong enough to push him back like B because he's not used to Enma yet.
'Then I guess I can't target S-Rank missing nins. I still need to adapt with Enma in battles, so fighting against S-Rank missing nins might be too much for now. Enma can suddenly act up and it can be dangerous. I need to try on a moderate prey first before going for the difficult ones.'
So Zoro goes through the A-Rank missing nins and finds someone who seems to be a good opponent to test himself now. It's a ninja from Iwagakure again.
There is a ninja from Tsunagakure, but Zoro doesn't really want to go to a hot desert. He'd rather go to the gloomy-looking Iwagakure.
'Hmm, he was last seen on the Land of Fire. Because the war has just ended and Iwa was the main culprit with Konoha, they won't enter the Land of Fire to avoid conflict. So their wanted criminals are hiding in the Land of Fire because of that. Alright, let's chase him.'
The target is an A-Rank missing nin, but he is not that strong in the description. He is a jonin, but not a skillful one.
Though sometimes, these kinds of people hide their power so well that even their villages don't notice. Zoro hopes it isn't the case, but won't mind if it is. He will blast that guy anyway.
