Chapter 10: Things at the police station

In the high-end ward of the city hospital, Dean saw his severely beaten son lying in bed, his face filled with sorrow and indignation. William, seeing his nephew in such a state, trembled with rage and shouted, "Brother, I'll take some men right now and wipe out that kid's entire family." He turned to leave as he finished speaking.

"Get back here! Don't you think things are chaotic enough?" Dean rebuked.

"Dad, you must avenge me," Sam said, grimacing in pain from the bed.

"Serves you right, you useless thing. You've brought disgrace to the family," Dean scolded his creating trouble son loudly.

"Dean! Aren't you at all distressed that our son has been beaten like this?" Dean's wife cried, complaining.

With a grim face and furrowed brow, Dean paced back and forth in the ward. He knew that whoever dared to beat his son so brazenly must have some backing. If this matter was not handled properly, it could affect his career, but he couldn't swallow his anger. A flash of light appeared in his cold eyes as he looked up and said to his secretary, "Cade Secretary, go to the police station and inform Chief Troy about Sam being assaulted. This is a serious injury case, and I believe Chief Troy will handle it impartially."

"Don't worry, Mayor. I know what to say," Cade Secretary said, bowing slightly before turning and leaving the ward.

"Brother, why involve Troy? I'd rather take men and wipe out that kid's entire family," William grumbled.

"What do you know? Stay out of trouble these days," Dean said sternly.

In his office, Troy smoked one cigarette after another, feeling the pressure from Sam's assault. He stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray and rubbed his temples, thinking: Dean, you're such a troublemaker, handing me this hot potato named Alex. If you think you can corner me, think again.

After a moment's thought, Troy picked up the phone and dialed, "Hello, captain Liam? Take some men to investigate the assault on Mayor Dean's son. Remember, we are civilized police officers; conduct the investigation accordingly."

Alex, who was chatting with Ben in the hospital, was politely escorted to the police station by several courteous officers. It was Alex's first time at the H City Police Station. As he entered the office hall, he saw a middle-aged man in uniform approaching with an outstretched hand and a smile, "Alex, I'm Chief Troy."

Alex shook Troy's hand and smiled, "Ah, so you're Chief Troy."

Troy led Alex to the reception room, personally made him a cup of tea, and said with a helpless expression, "I had no choice but to invite you here today. You must understand, Sam is Mayor Dean's only son, and I'm under a lot of pressure."

Alex took a sip of tea and smiled slightly, "I understand, but rest assured, Chief Troy, I won't make things difficult for you."

While Alex and Troy were exchanging pleasantries, the door to the reception room opened, and Dean, his wife, and Cade walked in. Dean's eyes immediately locked onto Alex, who remained calm, sipping his tea with a faint smile on his lips.

"I heard that Chief Troy has apprehended the person who seriously injured my son, so I came to take a look," Dean said with the air of a mayor, his voice low.

Troy quickly stood up, walked over to Dean, and pointed to Alex, smiling broadly, "Mayor Dean, this is Alex. I'm currently questioning him about the incident."

Upon hearing that this was Alex, Dean's wife lost all composure, screaming, "You reckless beast, how dare you attack our Sam! I'll make sure you rot in prison for life." Before she could finish her sentence, Alex raised his hand and splashed her face with half a cup of slightly scalding tea. She screamed and clutched her face, stunned by Alex's audacity. The officers outside, hearing the scream, thought there was an emergency and rushed in with their guns drawn.

Alex placed the empty teacup on the coffee table, lifted his head, and said coldly, "The thing I despise most is a shrew!"

Dean's anger flared up instantly, just as his phone rang. He pointed at Alex twice before answering it and shouted, "Report to me later!" When he heard the familiar voice on the other end, his face turned pale immediately. "Yes, Governor Reid, I understand. I won't cause you any trouble. Goodbye, Governor Reid."

Dean's arm dropped powerlessly, and the anger that had been burning in his heart was extinguished. He couldn't fathom the influence this young man had to make his former boss, now the Governor of G Province, so cautious. He cast an unwilling glance at Alex, then said to Troy, "Chief Troy, today's incident is all a misunderstanding. I have some documents to sign, so I'll take my leave. You go ahead with your work." Dean helped his wife out. Alex also stood up and left.

Troy escorted Alex out of the police station. Outside the station were over ten Mercedes-Benz S500 cars and a Lincoln limousine, with more than fifty bodyguards in sleek suits and polished shoes standing in formation. Dean and Troy were stunned at the sight. Alex saw it was his family's convoy. Tom approached and said respectfully, "Young master, the head of the family sent me to bring you home."

"Alright, let's go." Alex nodded and got into the Lincoln. Watching the luxurious convoy drive away, Dean finally understood that in Alex's eyes, he was an insignificant figure, easier to crush than an ant. He exhaled deeply and helped his still cursing wife into their car.

When Alex returned home, David called him into the study. Looking at his son with concern, David said, "Alex, I know about your recent actions. As long as you don't harm the country or our family's interests, your grandfather, your godfather, and I will fully support you."

Alex smiled confidently and said, "Dad, don't worry. I know my path, and I promise to surprise you in the end."

David laughed and patted his son's shoulder. "There's no need for surprises, just stay on the right track. When will you bring Kate over so your mother and I can meet her properly?"

"I'm not in a hurry, why are you?" Alex scratched his head and laughed awkwardly.

"Dad, Kate's class is almost over. I need to go back to school and have lunch with her, or she'll be mad at me," Alex said, glancing at his watch.

David smiled and nodded, and Alex turned to leave the study.

Mark drove Alex to the city hospital, where Alex bought lunch for Ben. When he arrived at the ward, he found Kate there too. As soon as Kate saw Alex, she threw herself into his arms, and tears began to fall from her eyes after just a couple of blinks.

"Worried about me again? Those cops just invited me for a chat. They wouldn't dare lay a finger on me," Alex said softly, holding Kate.

Suddenly remembering there were other patients in the room, Kate quickly pushed Alex away, blushing and lowering her head.
