<Hello Severus. I know you must have many questions and I don't know where to start. Do you remember that day when James almost killed you, and in the rage of the moment, you called me a Mudblood? I guess it all started around that time frame.
You know me, Severus, didn't you find it strange that our relationship suddenly got so cold? Sure, I felt very hurt by your words, but I also know that you didn't mean it. I would come to forgive you in time, you know.
I was tricked, a victim of an amortentia potion supplied by James Potter with the help of his friends. Lupin, Sirius, and Peter. And under the effects of the potion, I was influenced to sign a magical contract that prevented revealing what happened and with which James had a lot of power over me. He made sure to put a lot of restrictions that I don't think were even legal at the time.
While I'm writing this letter, I'm sorry to say that too many years have passed since then, and only recently did I find a way to bypass the magical restrictions.
It all started after giving birth to my son, Harry. James was stressed with the screaming and constant attention the baby demanded and decided it would be nice to get away for a couple of weeks while we left the boy with our neighbor. To do this, we used quite an old portkey in the attic. During the trip, the portkey cracked, and we were taken to some unknown place, which we later identified as Albania.
At that point, we realized that we couldn't apparate, so we could only search through our surroundings to exit what can only be assumed to be a time-space anomaly or wards. I did not expect that we would find an ancient temple during our search.
You know, I've always had an interest in these things, and it was the only place we could take cover with no visible civilizations around, so I managed to convince James to go in despite his reluctance. There, we found a type of mysterious writing, hieroglyphics, that James couldn't understand. I could read with relative ease.
It said it was the temple of motherhood. So, I deduced that only mothers were capable of understanding what was on the walls, and there was a phrase that was constantly repeated:
All new life is protected within these walls, where death cannot reach it.
As we carefully explored the place, I found a powerful spell that could temporarily free me from James's magical restraints, but I also found an ancient type of spell that uses love from a life freely given as its trade, which I plan to use on my son Harry if the time calls for it. I hate James for what he did to me, but Harry is not James.
But I digress. Another thing we found was supposedly the body of Cyrah Galegold. The last of her line, if I understood correctly.>
Severus knew nothing of House Galegold until Aurelius came to Hogwarts. The only knowledge obtained was from the boy himself, who revealed the existence of a fifth founder. Who claimed that Cyrah Galegold is his biological mother and that he is chronologically over a thousand years old.
He went back to reading the rest of the contents of the letter.
<The most surprising thing is that the body was not only preserved as if time was frozen soon, right after her death, but she was also pregnant.
According to what's written, Cyrah was a woman who could not produce an heir due to the attack of a magical creature that she suffered as a child, but she traveled the world looking for a way, and it seems that she found it.
I wonder who the father was and how she did it. Maybe the temple had something to do with it.
What a scare we got when we got close enough to the corpse; it began to give birth to a live and healthy baby. It was then that I remembered the phrase on the walls. At first, I thought it was just a temple where one could pray for a safe delivery, but the temple actually managed to keep the baby alive.
The baby was held by some ancient magic unleashed by his mother's love for nearly a thousand years! I can't even fathom what would be the requirements to power and sustain something like this. My only clue was the ancient magic that traded the love from a life freely given that I'll keep in my back pocket for now.
James wanted to leave the child. From what little I know of Cyprah, she was desperate to be a mother and abandoning her child after so many centuries of waiting seemed barbaric, so I refused.
So, for the first time in years, I threatened James and made it clear that at the very least, we should put the baby in an orphanage. He relented. He may have control over me, but at the very least, I could make my opinion known to him.
After finding a place we could apparate from, we went through with our plan.
James doesn't know that when I went alone to "drop the baby off at an orphanage," I magically adopted it into my family through rituals, not to the Potter family but to the Evans family. In the eyes of magic, the baby was mine and Cyrah's equally, so he kept all his rights and gifts and got some of mine.
I placed the baby inside a secret room that was expanded with a hidden expansion charm that I had prepared in our home. One that only I had access to and was magically isolated. I even secretly found a place to floo him with a cute couple who would surely be able to take care of him and would receive the child upon specific conditions.
I'm sorry to have to ask you this after so many years, Severus, but you're one of the few people I can still trust, even to this day. If something happens to me, please take care of the child. I'm sure Dumbledore and Sirius will take care of Harry regardless of what happens to me, but this child only has me to rely on.
Who knows what James would do if he found out about my adoption and that I could temporarily remove his control if I decide to return to the temple.
I wish things had turned out differently, but there's no use complaining at this point. Thank you, Severus.
Hugs, Lily Evans.>
Snape quickly put the letter aside so his tears wouldn't stain it. Knowing that Lily forgave and trusted him after all that time had passed meant the world to him.
But it was soon taken over by rage when he remembered that James used amortentia and manipulated Lily to such an extent that if he finds the three gits that were friends with the bastard he'd skin them alive.
If not for his mastery of occlumency, he might have started screaming in a blinding rage, blowing up his surroundings indiscriminately.
But now he found some meaning to his thought of why the boy had such a long name.
Aurelius Galegold Evans Valriss Aulus
He suspended the remaining classes for the afternoon with an excuse, and it took him all night to collect his thoughts; he didn't even show up for dinner in the Great Hall.
