Chapter 67: Lazarus Corporation

Lyra's eyes widened with surprise as she turned to Professor Lissandra. "A research sponsor?" she asked, her voice filled with a mix of curiosity and confusion. "What does that mean?"

Professor Lissandra smiled, her expression one of quiet pride and excitement. "The Lazarus Corporation, a renowned elixir organization, has taken a keen interest in your work at the Alchemy Fair," she explained, her voice low and serious. "They were particularly impressed by your Lyra's Potion and its ability to rejuvenate people's essence. They believe that your research could be the key to creating a revolutionary new elixir, one that could change the lives of people all across Nocturnia."

Lyra felt her face flush with pride and excitement at the professor's words. To think that her work had caught the attention of such a prestigious organization, that they believed in her abilities and her potential... it was almost too incredible to believe.

"That's... that's amazing," she breathed, her voice filled with wonder and gratitude. "I never imagined that my research could have such an impact, that it could make such a difference in people's lives."

Professor Lissandra nodded, her expression one of understanding and encouragement. "It's a lot of pressure, I know," she said, handing Lyra a thick, leather-bound notebook. "But I have every confidence in your abilities, Lyra. All you need to do is keep working on your Lyra's Potion, keep refining and perfecting it. The representatives from the Lazarus Corporation will be coming to review your progress periodically, but as long as you stay focused and dedicated, I know that you'll impress them beyond their wildest dreams."

Lyra felt a flicker of nervousness at the thought of having her work scrutinized by such important people, but she pushed it aside, determined to rise to the challenge. She knew that this was an incredible opportunity, a chance to take her research to the next level and make a real difference in the world.

"I understand," she said, her voice filled with a quiet determination. "I won't let you down, Professor Lissandra. I'll work harder than ever before, and I'll make sure that my potion is the best it can possibly be."

Professor Lissandra smiled, her eyes shining with pride and approval. "I know you will, Lyra," she said, her voice warm and encouraging. "But remember, the semester is coming to an end, and the Masquerade Ball is just around the corner. Don't let yourself get too caught up in your studies that you forget to enjoy the other aspects of your time here at Ashborne Academy. This opportunity with the Lazarus Corporation spans beyond just this semester, so make sure to find a balance between your research and your other commitments."

Lyra nodded, her mind already racing with ideas and possibilities. She knew that the road ahead would be challenging, that there would be long hours and countless obstacles to overcome. But she also knew that she was ready for it, that she had the skills and the determination to succeed.

As Professor Lissandra took her leave, Lyra turned back to her workstation, ready to dive into her research with renewed energy and focus. But before she could begin, she was startled by a voice from behind her.

"Hey there, Lyra," the voice said, warm and friendly. "I don't think we've been properly introduced. My name is Ben, and I'm one of the other students here in the independent study program."

Lyra turned, a smile spreading across her face as she took in the sight of the young man standing before her. He was tall and lanky, with a mop of unruly brown hair and a pair of wire-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.

"It's nice to meet you, Ben," she said, extending her hand in greeting. "I'm Lyra Argyle. I'm really excited to be here, and I can't wait to see what kinds of incredible things we'll all be able to accomplish together."

Ben grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement and mischief. "Well, if you ever need an extra set of hands or someone to bounce ideas off of, just let me know," he said, gesturing to his own workstation just a few feet away. "I'm always happy to help out a fellow alchemist."

Lyra felt a warmth spreading through her chest at Ben's words, a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose that she had never experienced before. Here, in the heart of Astria Labs, surrounded by brilliant minds and incredible resources, she felt like anything was possible.

"Thanks, Ben," she said, her voice filled with genuine gratitude. "I really appreciate that. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of research are you working on here?"

Ben's expression grew serious, his eyes taking on a faraway look as he spoke. "The undead," he said, his voice low and intense. "I'm trying to find a way to use alchemy to combat the scourge of necromancy and dark magic that plagues our world."

Lyra felt a shiver run down her spine at Ben's words, a sense of unease and fear washing over her. She had heard stories of the undead, of the terrible creatures that roamed the shadows of Nocturnia, feeding on the living and spreading chaos and destruction wherever they went.

"That's... that's really impressive," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "I can't even imagine how difficult and dangerous that must be."

Ben nodded, his expression grim and determined. "It's not easy," he admitted, his voice filled with a quiet intensity. "But it's important work, and I'm committed to seeing it through, no matter what the cost."

Lyra felt a sudden urge to change the subject, to steer the conversation back to safer, more comfortable topics. "Well, I should probably get going," she said, her voice filled with a forced brightness. "It's getting late, and I don't want to miss dinner. But it was really great meeting you, Ben. I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunities to chat more in the future."

Ben smiled, his expression softening with understanding. "Of course," he said, his voice warm and friendly once more. "I'll see you around, Lyra. And remember, if you ever need anything, just let me know."
