Chapter 43: Lilith's Essence
As Lyra and Lilith stood their ground, ready to face their opponents, a sudden movement caught their attention. Lilith's eyes widened, and she shouted, "Watch out!" as she shoved Lyra aside, just in time to avoid an arrow that whizzed past them.
The marksman Essence user revealed himself, a smirk on his face as he observed the unlikely duo. "Well, well, a vampire working with a human? Never thought I'd see the day," he remarked, drawing another arrow from his quiver.
Before Lyra could react, the marksman vanished, his presence concealed from both her telepathic senses and the perception of the trees. Lyra cursed under her breath, realizing the extent of his technique. "His ability allows him to hide even from the trees. We won't be able to track him easily."
Another arrow flew through the air, this time finding its mark in Lilith's shoulder. The Sanguine girl grunted in pain, but quickly brushed off Lyra's concern. "This is nothing," she insisted, gritting her teeth. "But the threat of this marksman is greater than we anticipated."
Lyra's mind raced, desperate to find a solution. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she reached into her pouch, retrieving two vials of her battle alchemy concoctions. "Lilith, I have a plan," she said, her voice low and urgent. "This potion will instantly knock out our opponent, but they have to directly inhale the toxins."
Lilith nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. As she struggled to her feet, a thought occurred to her. "Wait, shouldn't there be another person on their team?"
As if on cue, the ground beneath them erupted, and a large, burly man emerged, his hand grasping their team's flag. At the same moment, another arrow whistled through the air, heading straight for Lyra. Without hesitation, Lilith threw herself in front of her teammate, taking the arrow in her back.
Lyra stared at Lilith, shock and gratitude mingling in her expression. "Why, Lilith? Why do you keep protecting me?"
Lilith managed a pained smile, her voice strained but resolute. "Because humans are fragile, Lyra. And you're my teammate, whether I like it or not."
The man with the earth ability, whom Lyra would later learn was named Rorik, announced his technique with a booming voice. "Behold, my Dig ability! It allows me to tunnel through the earth at incredible speeds."
Lilith scoffed, unimpressed by Rorik's boasting. "I don't care about your lame ability," she retorted, a fierce determination burning in her eyes. "It's time for you to witness the true power of a Sanguine Essence technique."
With a deep breath, Lilith summoned her strength, the very air around her seeming to crackle with energy. Lyra watched in awe, realizing that she was about to see a side of Lilith that few had ever witnessed.
As Lilith prepared to unleash her hidden power, Lyra readied her battle alchemy, the vials clutched tightly in her hands. Together, they stood united against their foes, a human and a vampire, bound by the ties of friendship and the unwavering determination to emerge victorious.
