Chapter 42: Team Trifang
As the teachers began to circulate among the students, assigning battle locations, a particularly striking figure approached Lyra, Clara, and Lilith. He introduced himself as Professor Grimm, his gothic attire and somber demeanor perfectly matching his name.
Professor Grimm looked over the trio, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took in their unique composition. "Two normal students and a Sanguine," he mused, his voice a low, mysterious drawl. "An interesting combination. Your team name and members, please."
Lyra stepped forward, her voice clear and confident as she responded. "We are Trifang. I'm Lyra Argyle, and this is Clara Ravenscroft and Lilith Bloodstone."
Professor Grimm nodded, making a note on his clipboard. "Very well, Team Trifang. Your assigned battle location is the underground boxing and martial arts facility in the school gym."
Lilith's face contorted in disgust, her delicate features twisting into a scowl. "Ugh, do we have to fight in that smelly boy room? It's so beneath us."
Clara nodded in agreement, her brow furrowed with concern. "Plus, my kinetic impact ability could be a problem in such a confined space. We might end up causing more damage than necessary."
Lyra listened to her teammates' concerns, her mind racing to find a solution. She turned to Professor Grimm, her eyes pleading. "Professor, is there any way we could be assigned to a different location? Perhaps somewhere more suited to our team's abilities and preferences?"
Professor Grimm raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. For a moment, Lyra feared that he would refuse their request, that he would insist on the original assignment. Lilith winks at the professor and to her surprise, he simply nodded, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"I suppose we can make an exception for Team Trifang," he said, his voice tinged with amusement. "Your new battle location will be the tree fields on the outskirts of campus. I trust that will be more to your liking?"
Lilith's face lit up, her earlier disgust replaced by a look of relief and excitement. "The tree fields? Oh, that's perfect! Thank you, Professor Grimm!"
Clara grinned, nudging Lyra with her elbow. "Nice work, leader. You really know how to negotiate."
Lyra blushed, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment at her teammates' praise. She knew that the tree fields would provide a much more suitable environment for their abilities, with plenty of open space and natural cover to work with.
As Professor Grimm moved on to the next team, Lyra turned to her friends, her eyes sparkling with determination. "Alright, Team Trifang. Let's head to the tree fields and start strategizing. We have a tournament to win."
Lilith and Clara nodded, their own expressions mirroring Lyra's resolve. Together, they made their way out of the auditorium, their steps light and their spirits high.
Lyra couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as they walked, the cool breeze of the outdoors a welcome respite from the stuffy atmosphere of the auditorium. She knew that the challenges ahead would be daunting, that they would be facing off against some of the most skilled and powerful Essence users in the academy.

And as they stepped into the dappled sunlight of the tree fields, the scent of leaves and earth filling their lungs, Lyra felt a sense of calm and clarity wash over her. Ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
