Chapter 3: Chapter 2: A Quiet Arrival

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*

"Ugh... damn it." It's the first thing I say upon waking up in this new world.

I look at the alarm clock, which keeps ringing, showing 8:00 AM.

"...Even in another life, you follow me to annoy me," I complain weakly because it's the same sound that used to force me to wake up for work.

But I really can't complain. I know myself. It's because it's so annoying that I have to get up to turn it off and not just roll over and continue sleeping.

"Charlie! Turn that off, please..." a girl's voice calls me.

I look towards the source of the voice and see it's my roommate.

"Yes, yes, Rita," I say as I start getting out of bed.

Getting up to turn off the nuisance, I begin to recall my memories of this life.

'It's as I expected. Charlie: an orphan girl, left at the doorstep of an orphanage before even turning one year old. Obviously taken in by the said orphanage, she is considered quite intelligent for her age. I press the off button on the alarm clock. 'You can tell that this body had my soul from the start because even without memory, it still had some personality traits from my past life.'

Charlie had always been a calm child from a young age, also more intelligent and mature than others her age, but still, she occasionally showed a bit of the childishness that all kids have.

"Why do you always set that annoying alarm? I don't want to wake up so early!" Rita complains as she gets out of bed.

"Because otherwise, I won't wake up, because we have to wake up early to help the orphanage caregivers with the chores and, especially from today, because today we go back to school."

"Noo… not school again..." she says, whining.

"Do you want to be a coordinator?" I say, starting to explain why she has to go to school.

"Yes..." Rita says, already seeing where this is going.

"Then how are you going to become a coordinator if they don't even let you participate for not finishing your studies?" I say, raising an eyebrow and with a slight smile.

"*Sigh*... Okay," she almost seems to deflate with this.

"Come on, we need to have breakfast and go to school. We have to hurry so we don't miss out and end up not eating anything," I say as I walk to the door and open it.

"YES!" she perks up and starts speeding towards the dining hall.

I sigh as I walk a little faster to the dining hall. "Sometimes I feel like that girl is bipolar," I say, smiling calmly.

Upon arriving at the dining hall, I see many tables, each with a capacity for four or five people, spread throughout the room.

I head to the food line, where Rita is at the end, waving at me.

"You took forever!" is the first thing she says when I get close and stand behind her in line.

"There was no need to rush," I say, shrugging.

The line isn't very long, so we only have to wait about 10 minutes before we can get our food. It's a simple plate of pancakes, bacon, and eggs.

We go to one of the tables, where two other girls, Lily and Aisha, are sitting. They have been our neighbors in the room next door for years, and we're quite close.

"Hey, girls, can we sit here with you?" I ask, pointing to the table.

"Sure." "Yes." They both respond.

I sit at the table and start eating. "So, are you ready for the first day of school?" I ask, starting a conversation.

"I'm not that excited..." Lily responds.

"But I'm super excited!" That's Aisha.

Ah, the friendship between an extrovert and an introvert is almost ubiquitous.

The four of us continue chatting a bit more until one of the caregivers calls the kids to get ready to go to school.

"Well, we'd better go, or we'll miss the bus," I say as I get up and go to my room to change clothes and get my backpack. From there, I head straight to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take care of my needs.

When we arrive in front of the orphanage, there are about 30 kids of different ages waiting for the bus.

While we wait, I appreciate the scenery, observing people and Pokémon passing by.

I can see some Flying-type Pokémon in the sky, from Pidgey and Taillow to even a flock of Starly led by a Staraptor.

Looking at the ground, I see people walking on the street. Some of them are obviously trainers, either by their clothes and backpacks or simply by the clearly trained Pokémon walking beside them of various types, but mainly some of the Fighting, Grass, and Water types, which makes sense since this city has a Rock-type gym. I even see some more exclusive ones like an Absol, a Gardevoir, and even a Feraligatr.

Of course, there are also non-trainers, walking with pet Pokémon or without any Pokémon, but the trainers are the ones who catch the most attention.

"The bus is coming!" one of the younger kids shouts and points at the bus.

When the bus stops, the caregiver waiting with us has to hold back some kids to prevent them from pushing the others.

The girls and I are the first to get on, so I sit in one of the middle seats of the bus, with Rita beside me and Lily and Aisha in front of us.

When everyone gets on the bus and the caregiver bids us farewell, we start moving.

As expected in a bus full of kids of various ages, it's quite lively inside.

"Hey, Charlie, what do you think we'll do in class today?" Rita asks, poking me.

"Since today is the first day of school, we'll probably have some sort of introduction in the classrooms for students and teachers to get to know each other, the principal will give some speech in the auditorium to start the year, and we'll probably have some lighter classes to review last year's content before they give us this year's material," I say, looking out the window.

Now that I stop to think, I don't think I can sense aura, even though I should be "extremely talented."

I can feel some of my perks. [Peak Physical] is quite easy and self-explanatory. [Mental Barrier] and [Immunity] shouldn't be noticed because they're passive. [Communication] and [Animal Bond] have the same issue.

The [Pokétch] is impossible not to notice. It's like I have mental access to a huge library full of all kinds of scientific knowledge about the Pokémon world. When I chose this, I thought I would acquire all the knowledge at once, 'which, thinking back, it's better I gain the library because with all that knowledge my head would hurt a lot,' I think and shudder just imagining the headache.

There are still some issues, like the fact that I have access to this knowledge, but I actually have to learn. At least it seems that learning from this mental library is easier than learning the normal way.

I think I'll focus on the most basic parts first, as it's more than obvious that some laws and rules governing the universe here will be quite different from my old world. After that, I can move up the scale.

The abilities are also easy to identify because I imagine a scenario where I need them, and some answers come to mind. Like the scenario where I'm alone in the middle of a forest. One of the first things to do is look for shelter, then look for water and food, just to name a few examples.

"Charlie," Rita calls me while shaking me.

"Yes?" I ask, looking at her.

"We've arrived, let's go!" and she starts running towards the bus exit.

I look out the window and indeed, we've arrived at Rustboro Gym, which also functions as a school from preschool to high school. It's also a university for those who want to pursue a more academic career, as to become a trainer or coordinator you just need to complete high school.

"Man, I need to stop getting lost in thoughts and monologues," I complain to myself as I get off the bus and head to the gym.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
MatheusMaruj0 MatheusMaruj0

when I was writing chapter 4, I realized that I'm terrible at writing children for a long time and that it was going to be shit and pointless that it was going to be so much taime skip until 6-year-old Charlie was 18 to start his adventure, I'm not I'm so talented I don't even have the patience for it. But like I said, this is my first job and it feels like a test for me.

I hope you don't mind that too much. ;)
