Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Promotion of the New Magic System

At Night

"Tom, how is your research on the rune version of the Severing Charm?" Lockhart wrote in Voldemort's Horcrux Notebook. "I have developed a rune version of the Crushing Charm."

"The effect is good. The magic power consumption is reduced by 30%, and the mental power needed is only half of the original."

As Lockhart wrote, he exuded dissatisfaction and disdain. It seemed that if the notebook did not yield results, it would be a waste.

Soon, a line of text appeared in the black notebook.

"Professor Lockhart, the rune version of the Severing Charm has been studied. I have experimented with it hundreds of times in the Soul Illusion Space, and there are absolutely no issues."

Seeing that the Horcrux mentioned the so-called soul illusion space again, Lockhart pretended not to notice and wrote, "Send the information to me. I will take a look first."

As he spoke, he poured half a bottle of potion into the notebook. When the potion came into contact with the notebook, it disappeared almost instantly, like rainwater soaking into dry earth. No trace of the potion was left on the page.

However, a large amount of text soon appeared on the notebook, written in elegant, clear handwriting, as if by a noble poet.

"The new version of the Severing Spell is based on Rune No. 68 - Cut."

"Effect: While maintaining the same power, the magic power consumption is reduced by about 20%, mental power consumption is reduced by 50%, and no strong destructive emotions are required."

"How to cast: draw the rune of Severing."

"Disadvantages: Need to draw the runes. Beginners are slow to cast and prone to failure."

Looking at the extensive research in his notebook, Lockhart nodded with satisfaction. Although the notebook's research speed was not as fast as his own, it was still acceptable.

He was currently working on a magic project: selecting the most commonly used spells in areas such as daily life, combat, and healing, and then researching new magic runes with similar effects. Lockhart's plan was to promote a new magic system, akin to how two software dominated the market in his previous life. The current situation was that one software essentially unified the entire market, and the software he was developing needed to break through.

Two things were crucial. First, the new magic system must have its highlights and occupy the minds of wizards. Like a certain brand in his previous life, which broke through by positioning itself as genuine.

Lockhart had already prepared for this. Magic in the Harry Potter world had certain requirements for magical blood, as seen in the titles of pure-blood, half-blood, and squib. Generally, the purer the magical bloodline, the better the magical talent and faster the cultivation speed. If the magic bloodline was too low, the magical talent would be extremely poor. Squibs could not cast spells at all, and some ordinary wizards could only cast general spells, unable to use those requiring more mental or magical power, even risking their lives if they tried.

The new magic system's most important feature was its low learning threshold, making it easy to master without requiring a strong bloodline. With hard practice, anyone could master advanced magic.

As for the shortcomings Tom mentioned, wizards in the Marvel world had already solved them. Lockhart modified these solutions to suit the wizards in the Harry Potter world. The second point was to reduce the replacement cost for wizards, enabling them to quickly adapt to the new magic system. Learning new magic was not difficult, but getting people to abandon what they had already learned was the real challenge. Some wizards were obsessed with powerful magic and would willingly learn if it met their needs. But most wizards had adapted to the current magic, making it hard to change their spell-casting habits and behavior, which would be greatly resisted unless enforced by force. But Lockhart's current strength made that impossible. Thus, he aimed to reduce their spell-casting replacement cost by imitating the original magic system and developing runes with the same effect but less magic power consumption and unique highlights. This approach was worth learning for ordinary wizards, similar to new energy vehicles in his previous life.

Most of the project was almost completed, thanks to Tom's significant contributions, which saved Lockhart a lot of time. Thinking of this, Lockhart took out a bottle of potion to restore magic power and poured it on the notebook. The notebook absorbed all the potion.

Lockhart pondered. He had poured about 10 bottles of potion into the notebook. For every three or four spells researched, Lockhart poured a bottle to encourage Tom. However, 10 bottles contained almost the magic power of 10 adult wizards. Lockhart worried that if the notebook's magic power reached a certain level and started to backfire, it would be disastrous. In his previous life, he knew that if a Horcrux absorbed enough life force, it would sacrifice it to the host and begin resurrection. But Lockhart was unsure if the potion had similar effects.

After considering, Lockhart wrote in his notebook, "Tom, prepare to open the soul illusion space."

Tom: "."

Merlin, Lockhart, a bastard who only knew how to exploit, finally couldn't help but come in. If he didn't find a chance to kill the man this time, all his hard work would be in vain, Tom thought.

After a moment of stunned silence, Tom quickly replied, "Okay, Professor Lockhart."

As he spoke, a dazzling white light emerged from the notebook, and Lockhart felt as if his body was being pulled, about to enter the notebook in the next second. Suddenly, there was a "boom!" The notebook suddenly closed. After a few seconds, Lockhart opened the notebook again.

Tom: "?"

Tom was in a daze, clearly confused about what had happened, and slowly typed a question mark. Immediately afterward, a line of text appeared: "Professor Lockhart, don't resist. I am pulling you into the soul illusion space. After entering, you can practice magic spells and do magic experiments without any damage. It's okay."

Lockhart saw all kinds of tempting words floating on the notebook. He watched for more than ten seconds, waiting for the notebook to stop showing any words, and then silently wrote: "Tom, don't worry, I will use my method to enter."

Tom: "?"

The soul in the notebook was unclear, but it felt a bad premonition.

Then, Lockhart leaned back in his chair, held the Sling Ring in his hand, calmed his mind, closed his eyes slightly, and visualized a mysterious, complex pattern in his heart. His spirit suddenly jumped.

"Astral body projection!"

Chapter 112: Chapter 112: The Soul Space of Voldemort’s Horcrux

Lockhart's soul emerged from his body, floating in the air like a ghost at Hogwarts.

Turning around, he observed his body and office through his astral vision. Compared to normal vision, everything appeared brighter, with various colors indicating magical power fluctuations. It was more like seeing energy particles.

Satisfied with the comparison of his body and soul, Lockhart nodded. There was no difference, indicating a perfect fit between his soul and body. The faint purple-gold light on his body caught his attention. He realized it was the soul shell provided by the system—the golden light represented the soul shell, and the purple light symbolized the contract power of Vishanti. Normally, this contract should merge entirely with one's soul, but the system had intervened, making Vishanti believe the signing was successful, allowing Lockhart to enjoy Vishanti's power at no cost.

In the Marvel world, Lockhart frequently practiced using Vishanti's power, borrowing it extensively since it required no cost. He now understood the Ancient One's perspective: as long as the debt couldn't be demanded, it wasn't a debt.

Covering up the purple-gold light on his body, Lockhart focused on the Horcrux notebook on the table and smiled slightly before lunging his soul towards it. In an instant, his entire soul entered the notebook.

From the outside, Lockhart appeared asleep, leaning back in his chair with his head tilted to the left. In front of him was the black notebook.

As Lockhart entered the soul illusion space mentioned by Tom, the scene changed. He found himself in a place resembling Hogwarts, particularly the common room of Slytherin House. Reflecting on this, he realized that Voldemort had created the Horcrux at 16, during his sixth year, with Myrtle's death. Hogwarts, especially Slytherin House, had left a deep impression on Voldemort.

"You're Professor Lockhart!" Tom exclaimed, appearing silently behind him. Tom, wearing a dark green Slytherin robe, looked youthful but handsome.

"Hello, Tom," Lockhart greeted with a smile, inwardly pleased to disrupt Tom's plans.

Tom, stunned by Lockhart's appearance in emerald green wizard robes and smooth blond hair, felt an ominous premonition as his magic failed to affect Lockhart.

"Tom, let's see the effect of the soul illusion space you've been praising," Lockhart commanded calmly but with authority.

"Professor, what's your current state?" Tom asked, noting Lockhart's ghost-like but distinct state.

"I am in a soul state," Lockhart replied with a touch of pretentiousness. "This is a magic spell I researched called astral body projection. It allows the soul to leave the body and travel."

Tom's eyes lit up, realizing the potential of such a spell. However, he was also aware that it wouldn't help him escape the notebook. Smiling brightly, Tom complimented, "Professor Lockhart, you are indeed a rare genius. This spell alone is worth a Order of Merlin, Second Class."

Lockhart smiled proudly, then said calmly, "Tom, there's no need for flattery. Show me the soul illusion space. If it's effective, future experiments and teaching runes will be easier."

Tom cursed inwardly, frustrated by Lockhart's secrecy on key knowledge but smiled outwardly, promising, "Professor, with your guidance, my efficiency will surely improve."

Increasing the magical erosion on Lockhart, Tom thought of turning him into a puppet for 24-hour research. The runes Lockhart possessed seemed infinitely valuable, essential for Tom's goal of immortality, especially some that aided his soul fragment. He coveted this knowledge, feeling thwarted by Lockhart's secrecy.

With a smile masking his cold intentions, Tom said, "Professor, I'll open the soul illusion space now."

Tom waved his hand, changing the surroundings. Lockhart found himself in a hall similar to a dueling club, with a high platform and walls lined with alchemy puppets and materials. Noting the increased magical erosion, he smiled sarcastically.

"Tom, introduce the functions of the soul illusion," Lockhart ordered.

Tom, hiding his frustration, explained, "Professor, in the soul illusion space, we can recreate scenes from our memories. You can cast spells, practice processing materials, refine potions, and create alchemy items as long as you have the relevant knowledge and information."

"The drawback is it can't simulate beyond your understanding, and successful simulations may not always translate to reality. However, it's the best place to develop your own experience."
