Chapter 19: Test 3

I woke up early that morning, with my mind clear and prepared for the exam.

Breakfast and a bath were prepared by Evelyn, allowing me to get ready easily.

I walked into Class A's classroom, where several other students had already gathered.

I took a seat at the back of the class and waited for class to begin.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Aria approaching me.

She had been quite competitive with me thus far, and I could already imagine what she would say.

"Just so you know.. I'll beat you."

She arrogantly declared her intent loud enough that the entire class would hear.

"Yeah, I'm sure you will."

I lazily responded, disappointing the expectations of some bystanders.

Aria seemed slightly irritated at my unenergetic response, and left to her own seat quickly.

I had no intention of losing.

Anyways, Professor Theo walked into the room, his eyes as sunken as ever.

I wonder if he ever sleeps.

"Uhm... Right... So you should all be aware by now that uh... Yeah, today's the day of the exams.... I hope you've all prepared well."

Looking around, I saw the expressions of the members of Class A.

As expected, none of them felt a hint of fear for the exam.

"Yeah.. so... just follow me... the first thing will be the written exams, and then the practical exams..."

We followed the professor to a large exam hall within the academy.

The seating was randomized, and I found myself between a B class and a D class student.

The B class student seemed calm, leaking out a hint of nervousness every now and again.

The D class student was biting her nails, looking around as if asking for help.

I could sympathize with her... I felt similar when taking my physics exams...

An exam invigilator silenced the hall and handed out test sheets.

History and Geography....

The questions were quite basic, going over what we had learnt so far.

The story of how the first Emperor Valorian wiped out hoards of monsters inhabiting the lands of the empire, and thus forming the empire on the now habitable lands.

The structure of the various continents...

Currently, humanity inhabited the central continent.

Some dragons also inhabited the mountain ranges of the central continent, such as the Stonespear mountain range.

The demon continent was east to the central continent, separated by the massive river of blood, Styx.

Humanity had not dared to colonize it due to the harmful mana that coated the continent.

This was why it took so long for the humans to realize the demons had begun moving once again.

The western continent was inhabited by the inhuman races, such as Elves and Dwarves, but they also possessed some territories in the form of port cities in the central continent.

The southern continent....

The first part of the southern continent was desert, and was inhabited by some human kingdoms and nomadic tribes.

The second part....

It was known as the abyssal swamps, located deep south in the southern continent, and was largely unexplored by any race.

The only known inhabitants were monsters, far beyond the strength of monsters that inhabited the central continent.

The trees grew so large and densely that the entire sky was covered.

It was a place I had not been able to explore fully.

The northern continent was also a terrifying place, although not as much. as the deep southern continent.

It was known for its endless winter and horrendous terrain.

The tundra was a tough place to explore, but many barbarian tribes and some human outposts had been created there.

The deep tundra, much like the deep south, was unexplored, and was known to contain many horrible beings.

I finished writing the first exam after not much time, handing in my paper and waiting until the next test began.

I had received some dirty looks by the students around me, most likely because I had finished so early.

I dozed off until another test was handed to me.

Magical Theory did not take long to complete.

The questions were basic, asking what the mutations of certain magics were, as well as their applications.

One of the theories we had learnt also came up.

The theory of 'apex mutations'.

A basic magic such as light or fire could be mutated into a stronger magic such as sun, but a theory existed that some mutations were massively stronger than others.

The mutations that fit this criteria were coined as 'apex mutations'.

For example, the apex mutation of shadow was considered death, for water it was vortex, for wind it was slice, so on so forth.

The theory was interesting, but I knew it was false.

Firstly, there were mutations that had yet to be discovered, and secondly, the strength of a magic was dependent wholly on the user.

I omitted my own thoughts and answered the various questions on the paper.

Giving in my paper early once again, I received even more dirty looks.

The class D girl sitting to my left looked at me as if she were about to cry.

'I'm sorry. I can relate to you.'

I sent her a silent prayer.

The third paper was by far the easiest.

I had killed untold amounts of monsters, and I answered every question flawlessly.

Of course, I did not include information that was unknown or classified.

The questions were basic, pertaining to weaker monsters such as trolls and orcs.

Some harder questions were on mythical beasts such as Dragons and Leviathans.

They were all monsters I had killed many times, and the test did not take long for me to finish.

I handed the final paper in, and left.

I was the first person to leave the exam hall, and I could really feel the dirty looks coming my way.

'It's not my fault I was sent to this world...'

I awaited in a seating area in which we would have the practical exam explained to us.

Since I came so early, I decided to take some rest.

...

"Is that guy seriously sleeping?"

"Peh... I bet he just filled out one question per exam and left. Do you really think he'd be able to answer them all that quickly?"

"I don't know man... The class A students say he answers questions well."

"They're probably just saying that because they don't want to make their class look bad by having a guy like him there."

I woke up upon hearing some muttering nearby.

'It seems that many people still view me quite unfavorably.'

After they noticed I had awakened, they quickly scurried off, afraid of being caught gossiping.

A few minutes later, the written exam was over, and many students flooded into the room.

The vice principal got on stage, smiling at us, before beginning his explanation of the practical exam.
