Chapter 1: Chapter 1

[This fanfic will be one of the three choices for translation, in a few days I'll make a poll]

"Damn, who the hell is setting off fireworks so early in the morning? Beep- beep- beep- beep..."

Hawking, deep in sleep, was suddenly awakened by a thunderous noise and couldn't help but roar as he opened his eyes.

As a 996 worker finally enjoying a day off to sleep in, the resentment of being woken up by noise was truly terrifying. (996 Worker= Monday to Saturday, From 9AM to 9PM, basically a modern slave)

After a string of traditional curses, he suddenly froze.

"Where am I?"

He glanced around, bewildered.

The European-style retro and slightly lavish large room clearly didn't match his cheap, old, small rental apartment.

Rubbing his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things, he couldn't help but lift the covers to check.

But when he saw his hands and body, he let out an incredulous shout:

"What's happened to my body!"

It turned out that his body had shrunk considerably, and he seemed to have turned into a child.

Rolling and crawling out of bed, he rushed to the mirror in the room and muttered to himself as he saw the roughly eleven- or twelve-year-old boy in it:

"Could it be... could it be that I've been reborn into my childhood?"

The boy in the mirror was him at eleven or twelve, a fact he could confirm.

"But I never lived in a house like this when I was a kid!"

He recalled carefully, during that age, he had always been living in a boarding school.

"Boom!"

Just as he was puzzled, a loud noise suddenly came from outside.

"Who bought fireworks that are so loud?"

Putting aside his confusion, Hawking went to the window to see the environment outside and determine where he was.

He pulled the curtains open with one swift move, and the sight outside made his pupils shrink, then his stomach churned, almost making him vomit.

What he saw was shattered buildings, blood-soaked earth, corpses on the ground, planes circling in the sky, and incessant gunfire below.

Obviously, what he had heard was not fireworks, but actual artillery explosions, even missiles scouring the ground; a brutal war was happening.

Danger, extreme danger!

Flee, he must flee quickly!

This was Hawking's first instinct, but he forced himself to calm down.

Because he realized, there was nowhere to run.

In such a dangerous war, could leaving this house really be safe?

Perhaps going out might just get him shot up; it might be safer to stay in this room.

But looking at the buildings outside that had been bombed, it seemed that staying in this room was also a gamble; a missile hit here, and he would be blown to bits along with the building.

"Maybe, I should find a place like a bomb shelter to hide, but... I don't even know where the hell I am!"

At this moment, Hawking was caught in a dilemma.

After all, he was just an ordinary person, especially now that he had turned into a child, finding a bomb shelter in this unfamiliar place seemed like a fantasy.

"Click!"

Just as Hawking was at a loss, a virtual panel suddenly popped up in front of him, and a line of text appeared on it:

[Random Hero Template Device activated, you have one free draw chance, do you choose to draw?]

Seeing the unbelievable scene in front of him, Hawking hardly hesitated and immediately pressed the draw button on the panel.

Now was not the time to wonder why he woke up in a war-torn city as a child, nor why a strange virtual panel had appeared.

What he needed to do was survive first.

As the confirm button was pressed, the virtual panel immediately started flashing rapidly like a bar's disco ball.

Moments later, the panel returned to normal, and another line of text appeared:

"Drawing complete, the hero template drawn is thirteen-year-old Son Goku from the Dragon Ball world, do you wish to load?"

"Saved!"

Seeing that the randomly drawn hero template was Goku from the Dragon Ball world, Hawking immediately perked up and clicked confirm without hesitation.

If he remembered correctly, thirteen-year-old Goku had already undergone training with Master Roshi and participated in his first World Martial Arts Tournament, making it difficult for ordinary firearms to harm him.

"Thirteen-year-old Son Goku template loading, loading duration one hour, cooldown time twenty-four hours.

After loading, automatically acquire the same bloodline as the template hero."

As a new line of prompts flashed on the panel, Hawking immediately felt a strange transformation in his body, as if his original body was an ant and now he had become an elephant.

At the same time, a series of memories, all of Goku's memories from birth to the age of thirteen, surfaced in his mind.

Turning to look in the mirror again, his height and face hadn't changed at all, still looking like his eleven- or twelve-year-old self.

Only now his original crew cut had grown into upright black hair, exactly the same as Son Goku's hairstyle in Dragon Ball.

And his pajamas had been replaced by a martial arts uniform with the character for "turtle" on it, and he now had a red staff on his back.

"There's only an hour, find a safe place to hide first!"

According to the panel's introduction, he could only maintain this state for an hour, after which he would revert back to his original form.

So now was not the time to try to stop the war in the city, but rather to find a safe place to hide and wait for the war to end, or for the cooldown of the hero template to finish.

With a decision made, his body immediately rushed out of the room at a speed that surpassed human limits.

"No one."

He glanced around and found the house empty, so he quickly headed to the street.

Choosing a direction with less gunfire, Hawking began to sprint.

He felt that with his current body, an hour should be enough to get out of the city; there was no need to waste time looking for a so-called bomb shelter.

However, just as he hadn't run far, he suddenly saw two strong soldiers in different colored military uniforms engaged in close combat with long guns that fired blanks.

Normally, with his personality, seeing this kind of situation, he would run as far away as possible.

In such a dangerous situation, not to mention watching two soldiers fight, even seeing soldiers shooting civilians, he wouldn't stop to help.

If he could ensure his safety, he wouldn't mind lending a hand, but now his hero template could only be loaded for an hour, and he must prioritize his own safety.

However, for some reason, seeing the two fighting so fiercely, his blood boiled, and his body involuntarily turned and charged over.

"Are you guys sparring, add me in!"

Five seconds later, looking at the two strong soldiers he had knocked out, Hawking was completely speechless.

"Is this... similar to a spirit possession?"

Not only did I get the hero's strength, but did I also get a bit of the hero's personality?"

(Note: Goku didn't know that after eleven comes twelve, only after being taught by Master Roshi did he learn that after eleven comes twelve, and he filled in his age as twelve at his first World Martial Arts Tournament.)
