Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Ash Begins Training
It was lunchtime and Saffiyah called everyone to the kitchen. Aaron ran straight in from the door, got his food and ran upstairs to his room. Ash got out of meditation and got up, feeling a little sore, Ash walked very slowly to the kitchen. She climbed onto one of the seats and Marilda put a plate of food and juice in front of her. Ash ate slowly, thinking about earlier and how she was just thrown back. Max and Saffiyah sat down next to each other, they as well got served their food. "Father, when you threw the spear, was there something I was supposed to do in order not to get thrown back?" hearing this, Saffiyahs head snapped straight at her husband. Max had sweat drip down intensely as he replied, "Yes kid, when you sensed the spear you should've coated yourself with mana in order to catch it, or block" Max then demonstrated, a shiny coating appeared over his arm, it looked like a thin sheet of glowing clothe. "This is one of the basics in close combat" said Max as he started eating, scared because of his wifes aura. "Max, when we're done, teach Ash body strengthening before you actually teach her combat" said Saffiyah as she slowly took her gaze away from her husband.
Max nodded, he finished before Ash did as she was trying to coat herself with mana. Saffiyah finished right after and went to the living room to read, Max stayed at the table watching Ash's attempts. After a bit Ash got it down, "Now, when your coating is like that, it's being idle, basically its just a shield right now. What you want to practice now is using your mana to to give a physical attack more power, like this" said max as he coated his middle finger with mana. He picked up a bone from his meal and flung it into the air, flicking his middlefinger, a wave of air pressure zoomed straight at the bone, turning it into dust. Ash was amazed as that was mainly physical force, when her father coated his finger, he didnt send a wave of mana, but strengthened his finger, bringing out more force. "Keep in mind this Ash, the Close Combat skill isnt actually a fighting style, its the ability to reinforce and strengthen your body using mana".
"Lets go outside" said Max which got a nof from Ash. They both walked outside, Ash followed her father over to one of the training dummies. "This is a piece of training equipment I bought when me and your mother settled down here, It's a piece of thick monster level that could easily withstand C-Graded attacks. I want you to practice using this piece of equipment until you get the Close Combat skill" said Max as he grabbed his training spear. Ash walk over to the training dummy, 'You should punch it' said Grim, to which Ash did. Ash ran up to the dummy and punched it with all the force her small arms could gather, she made the mistake of not coating herself with mana. When Ash's fist and the dummy collided, A wave of pain washed over Ashes hand, Ash fell to the ground, grabbed her hand, and started rolling in pain.
After a bit, Ash stood up and coated her hand with mana, she swung her fist and hit the dummy, despite the fact that her mana basically cushioned what she felt, it still felt as if she punched a wall. 'Hey Ash, a new skill is forming, keep at it' said Grim as she cheared Ash on. Using this motivation, Ash coated her whole body stepping back and dashing straight at the dummy, with every exchange her hands ached more but Ash could feel the improvements. It was getting darker as dusk was nearing, Ash's hands were bloody and a thin layer of mana coated her hands, when she repeated her dash and punch, a small shockwave happened. Ash knocked out yet again, Max and Saffiyah were sitting down on a bench that was outside, looking extremely impressed and proud at their daughter.
*Mana Pool*
Grim was watching everything that happened, as well as noticed something incredible, from outside of Ash's mana pool two orbs formed, the surprising thing was that those same two orbs appeared in her own mana pool. 'It must be because its a skill regarding the body' thought grim as she tried using the skill inside of her mana pool but it didnt work. 'I'll take control of the body for a bit', Grim after many tries before, exited their core and went into the subconscious, taking control of Ash's body.
*Outside*
Grim opened her eyes, noticing the fatigue she circulated mana and healed their body enough for her to move around a bit. Standing up, Grim took a stance and coated her body with mana, it was at the same level as when Ash practiced, even though Grim had never done this before. Grim focused the mana in her legs and with a kick she burst forth, moving all of the remaining mana to her right arm, she took a big swing, smacking the dummy and causing a bigger shockwave than earlier. After this she used necessity magic and cleaned herself up. She walked over to the dinner table where her mother and father were waiting as they went inside when Grim stood up. Saffiyah took out some disinfecting cream and a bandage, using water to clean Grims hand and drying it, she applied the medicinal cream and then wrapped her hands.
After a bit, Matilda walked out with everyones food, they dug in with Saffiyah feeding Grim. "Ash, when you're done eating, go rest, we will continue tomorrow morning" Ash nodded. It didnt take long for everyone to be done, Grim went into her room and layed down, coating her hand with mana, making it as dense as possible to the point where it was hard to see. Looking into her mana pool, the Close combat orb grew to the next stage. Grim went to sleep not long after due to the intense training.
