Chapter 1: Prologue

The village of Silka, an ordinary small village close to a river, surrounded by a thick forest which was quite dangerous to adventure at, especially for those without the necessary skills.

It started out with just three houses, and through the years became a place with a whooping twelve houses in total, plus a cabin for a healer. The size couldn't be compared to any city or larger town, as those places had way more houses, commercial buildings, security, and quality of life for its citizens.

But the village of Silka was a good place to live. None of the villagers disliked the place, as they had everything they needed there: food, water, protection from the weather, a healer when needed, and most importantly, a ruler that thought about the well-being of everyone.

Sebastian Silka, a merchant part of the Silka family, the village founders. There was a reason his family decided to live there: precious ores.

The Silka family, long ago, found a labyrinth of strange caves in a nearby mountain-range, and inside found all kinds of precious ores, like those used to craft magical items like mage wands, scepters, catalysts, and even magical weapons like pistols, swords and even the ammunition needed for the fire weapons.

They also found mana stones in those caves, which were the best source of energy the world used, and its price was pretty high, leading the Silka family to increase their wealth rapidly. Of course, none of the members of the Silka family went around saying they had found such caves. The village was in a remote place, and if the king did not know about it, then it wouldn't go there to try to take it from them.

Were they doing the right thing by keeping the caves a secret? No one knew for certain, especially Kai, the newest villager of Silka.

'What the fuck is happening?' Kai thought as he tried to make up what was happening around him.

The memories of what happened came back to him: he died during a show. That was so sad and depressing that he wanted to find a hole and hide in it!

Kai was a magician back on Earth, someone who did tricks as a way of earning a living. During one of his tricks, the one which he would 'get stabbed' by swords, well, he got stabbed for real and died.

He could already picture the news about his demise, stating how practicing magic tricks were dangerous, and that no one should try it at home.

But for him, and to many others, that was supposed to be the end, yet that was not what was happening to him. He found himself inside a wooden cabin with lots of jars with plants he had never seen before.

Three people were there with him: a man, a woman, and another older woman. For some reason, the moment he saw the man and the woman, he knew they were his family. It was a strange feeling, one that Kai could not describe, but he knew they were his parents despite not understanding a single word they were saying.

They looked surprised when noticing Kai's open eyes, and the fact he did not cry like he was supposed to.

"Everything is okay with the baby," the older woman said, handing over Kai to his mother, who was lying on a bed.

"It's a boy, Seneca, this is what we wanted," the man said, smiling to his wife.

Seneca could not hide the happiness on her face, as a big smile grew on her, "Yes, but why didn't he cry like all the babies?"

Kai listened to everything — understanding zero things — but the warmth coming from his mother was something that didn't require words, and the loving gaze from his father was the same.

Zerin comforted his wife, "Jane said everything is okay with the baby, and she is the expert healer here. Don't worry about our baby Kai, he is fine."

Kai understood the word Kai, and could not help but think, 'my name is the same in this world too?'

Jane, the village's healer, looked at Seneca and said, "Your husband is right. The baby is fine. Also, you two are mages so your son will certainly be healthy, and you didn't have any complications with your last two babies."

"Yes, you are right," Seneca said as she held Kai with a blanket, "I am just overthinking things."

It was already late night when Seneca and Zerin rushed to Jane's house, waking her up in the middle of the night. Seneca needed someone to help pull out the baby out of her, and Jane was not only a healer but a midwife too.

They knew Seneca's baby would be healthy. She respected the pregnancy and did not work, letting Zerin take care of everything. The two were also mages, making their life much easier during that tough period.

As they returned home after visiting Jane, Kai stared at the starry night sky, feeling the cold breeze hit his unprotected body. The air was much purer than what he was used to back on Earth.

Kai had many questions inside his mind as to how the new world he was in worked. Not knowing the language made knowing things impossible, but Kai was confident that he would learn it, eventually.

'I am just a baby so let's enjoy this carefree life shall we?'

The house they lived in was made of wood, just like the healer's house. It had a fireplace inside, giving a comfy feeling to the place, and there was not even a speck of dust.

Kai noticed a boy approaching them the moment they entered the house, making Seneca slightly upset, "Hugh, you should be sleeping! It 's late!"

"I just wanted to see the baby. Is everything okay? What is his name?" Hugh said, as he went on his tip-toes, trying to look at Kai.

Seneca bent her knees so that Hugh, with his tiny frame, could see the baby, "His name is Kai, and he is your new brother."

"Can I hold him?" Hugh asked.

"Tomorrow, alright? He needs to rest, and you too," Seneca said.

Hugh listened to his mother and returned to his bed. He shared his room with his sister, who was only 2 years old, while Hugh was 4. Kai stayed in his parents room because he was too little, and they wanted to make sure nothing would happen to him.

'So I have two caring parents, and two siblings. This is not bad at all,' thought Kai as he could not hold his eyelids open anymore.
