Chapter 8

"I'm sorry to bother you, but can I come in?" Adonis' deep voice snapped her out of her daze.

Delaney was taken aback by the imposing figure standing before her. She felt like she was in a trance. What was he doing here? She wondered if he had come to see Blaine, and her mind raced with countless possibilities. The events from their encounter at his office earlier flooded her thoughts, and she panicked, fearing that the situation had gotten worse than she thought it was.

"Uh... Sure... Good evening… Mr. Langston," she stammered, breaking their brief eye contact.

Adonis exuded an intimidating presence that made her shiver. She didn't even want to think about his attractive features at that moment because his deep ocean eyes already sent flutters through her stomach. Those eyes…

"Please, Adonis will do just fine," he responded, still holding her gaze, his voice sounding almost like it was an order, carrying an air of authority.

"I'm sorry, sir…" she tittered nervously, nibbling on her lower lip, stealing another glance at his face. She had just realized there was something familiar about his eyes and his voice. She could swear she had seen those eyes before but couldn't quite place it. Perhaps it was because she had seen and heard him on TV too many times, leading to that sense of familiarity.

"Delaney..." His voice came as a hushed whisper as he regarded her slowly, taking in every inch of her.

"Blaine isn't home yet, but I could call him if you want. Should I make some coffee while you wait?" She broke the heavy silence that hung in the air, hoping he would leave as soon as he realized Blaine wasn't home. He was making her very uncomfortable.

"I'm not here for Blaine. I knew he wouldn't be spending the night at home," he replied, glancing around the room before returning his gaze to her curious one. "I wouldn't be foolish enough to come around if he were home, would I?" An unreadable smile played upon his lips, his eyes still locked onto hers.

"Um... I'm sorry, Mr. Langston, but..." She stuttered, "But what brings you here?" She gulped hard, her heart pounding with fear.

Had he come to harm her? Or to punish her for addressing him in a way he probably didn't appreciate earlier today? Or...

Her train of thought was interrupted by his throaty voice as he took a step closer, closing the distance between them.

"I am here for you, Delaney." He was just a few inches away from her, his huge, intimidating frame enveloping her fragile one.

She could hear her heart thundering in her chest, struggling to understand what he was trying to say.

"Mr. Langston, did..."

"Call me Adonis," he commanded, still peering into her face.

Delaney's heart trembled. The room seemed to grow hotter, and the atmosphere between them became charged.

"You honestly don't remember?" He took another step closer while she instinctively took two steps back, but he grasped her arm before she could retreat any further.

"The unforgettable night we shared together, and you disappeared without even saying a word," He enjoyed the look of realization that was gradually beginning to form on her face. "Do you remember? I was the man whose heart you captured and vanished with. You left me without a heart all these years, Delaney."

He brought out his phone from his pocket, showing her the picture on his screen. It was a picture of her sleeping form that was taken three years ago.

Delaney gasped; her eyes widened in shock. She could feel her head pounding hard as realization slowly crept in on her.

"No..." She lacked the right words to express herself. She wished this was all a dream, and she prayed she'd wake up from it.

Her hands trembled as she tried to free herself from his strong grip, but he held her tight. This was a man she'd tried so hard to erase from her memory all these years. How the hell did she end up standing face-to-face with him again?

"I have waited impatiently for three years - for the day I'd finally find this woman. It is a small world indeed," he scoffed. "The look on your face tells me you remember every bit of it." A smile of triumph found his face.

"Please, you have to go." Her quivering voice pleaded, but Adonis was unmoving.

Delaney remembered every single detail like it was yesterday. The pleasure, the hurt, the pain... The man who took her virginity.

She'd woken up very early that morning to the incessant ringing of her phone. As soon as she opened her eyes, realization struck her like lightning.

She tried to make out the previous night's events, but they were only a blur in her memory. The bar, the stranger, and then... She was ashamed of herself. She had lost her virginity to a total stranger she knew from nowhere.

All her efforts to remember what this stranger looked like had proven abortive, as the lights were off all night, and she had slept off immediately after the sinful event.

She ran out of the house without a second thought, feeling cheap and ashamed.

But she had gone back there to look for him about a month later. It was a matter of life and death, but...

She jerked back to reality as soon as she felt Adonis' large palm move from her arm to cup her cheek.

"Not without taking what's mine," his eyes grew dark with possession when he uttered those words. "I want you, Delaney Duncan." He spelled out the words one after another.

"You don't have to do this. It's been three years already, please? It was just a night, and we made a mistake. I was drunk, and you know it. Can we just pretend it never happened?" Fear was evident in her eyes.

For this same reason, she had gone through enough torture already from Blaine, and she wasn't ready for more. And this man right here looked like trouble. If she doesn't handle this with caution, it might open up old wounds.

Blaine would blow off the house if he ever found her talking with his boss, let alone know that this was the man from that night… The night that had changed their lives. It'll further prove to him that she was hiding something from him all along.

She rubbed her arms with both palms as if the room had suddenly become icy.

"How can I just let it go like it never happened, Dela? I fucking took your virginity, and you think I'll take that for granted?" He leaned forward. "I never stopped thinking about you. You are more than just a one-night stand to me. I am completely under your spell, and pretense isn't one of my strongholds, baby." He kept inching closer while she took desperate steps backward until her back collided with the cold wall behind her.

Her heartbeat could be heard in the quietness of the entire room. "I am already engaged to be married soon. I wouldn't want anything... I can't risk..."

"About your engagement," He briefly paused as if considering what she'd just said. "I am used to getting whatever I want, and the word 'consequence' isn't something I'm familiar with." His voice had reduced to a whisper, and as he leaned closer to Delaney, who had her back to the wall, he placed a hand on it while the other hand still held her arm firmly.

His hot breath grazed her face, hinting at the pure desire he felt at that moment. "Please, don't say no. I've waited for so long, my Dela."

Delaney was momentarily carried away by the moment. She hadn't had a man this close to her in a very long time, and this man standing right here was pure sin.

She remembered the way he had possessed her on that faithful night; although his face was not registered in her memory, the intense pleasure he had given her remained stuck in her mind.

Those memories were always finding their way into her subconscious after that blissful night. That was the first and probably the last time any man ever fucked her that well; besides, he was the one who took her virginity.

He was carefully built for sin. He was the perfect definition of a sex god. He had made her feel something that had remained stuck in her memory, no matter how hard she tried to get rid of it.

"Tell me you don't miss it... Even for once..." His throaty voice echoed in her ear, sending shivers all over her. He tilted her chin with the tip of his finger, lifting her gaze to meet his lusty ones.

Delaney's tender hands tried pushing Adonis away, but it had no effect on his huge muscular body. He snatched her hands, holding them up against the wall just above her head, slowly bringing his lips dangerously close to hers. "Brings back memories, huh?" He scoffed.

She felt the walls of her clit clench as warm moisture threatened to seep through. But Delaney couldn't bring herself to cheat on Blaine. Despite his shortcomings, it doesn't change the fact that she's loyal to the core.

She couldn't stand by and watch another man touch her the way her man was supposed to touch her. Only her man had the right to come that close to her.

"Stop it, now!" Her voice was firmer, with a hint of seriousness, as she mustered up the strength to free herself from his grip.

Adonis let out a dark smile.

"You have no right to do that." She began. "I am engaged to be married, and Blaine is the only one with the exclusive right to come this close to me." Her voice held rage at this point.

"Leave and never come back; otherwise, you'll regret ever finding me. I belong to another. Get that straight!" She glowered at him, but deep down, she couldn't help but feel frightened at the expressionless face of Adonis. He wasn't angry, neither was he happy; he wasn't expressing any emotion, and it scared her to her bones.

The words she uttered pierced him like a thousand spears in his heart. He hated that. And he was going to make sure it didn't remain that way. He was going to make her his, by all means. The thought of her belonging to Blaine was capable of pushing him off a cliff.

He stared into her eyes with an unreadable expression, not uttering a single word. His intense stare regarded her, peering into the depths of her eyes.

Delaney was shaking with fear. She prayed earnestly to survive the night without getting harmed because the man in front of her looked that scary.

Without uttering another word, Adonis let out a smirk as he turned around and headed for the door, and without so much as a second glance, he opened the door, stepped outside, and closed the door behind him.

"Oh no, what have I done?" Delaney clutched her chest, her heart still on its marathon course, as sweat dripped down her forehead.

She didn't know what to expect; what was going to be his next course of action? Fire Blaine? Come back for her?

Oh, God!
