Chapter 4: chapter 4

On the edge of a cliff, the view stretched vast and dizzying before us. A thick vine hung tantalizingly close. Without waiting for a warning, Finn ran towards it, exclaiming joyfully, "I see them on the other side!" And with a brave impulse, he swung towards the other shore.

His landing was less than graceful, and worried, Clarke shouted, "FINN, ARE YOU OKAY?" After a moment that seemed eternal, Finn stood up, triumphantly waving a worn-out sign that read 'Mount Weather'. With a radiant smile, he announced, "WE MADE IT!"

Clarke and Wells exchanged relieved looks, but I felt a shiver of danger and shouted, "WATCH OUT!" Just as Finn turned to the right, a spear whizzed through the air, piercing directly into his chest. The tragedy unfolded in slow motion; the same spear that would have struck Jasper had now found Finn's heart, snatching his life in an instant.

Clarke watched Finn fall back, life fading from his eyes, and her cry of pain pierced the air: "FINN!" I rushed towards her to take her away from the line of fire. She struggled, wanting to go back for Finn, but I held her firmly: "Clarke, he's gone. You know it. That spear went straight to his heart; there's no hope."

Upon hearing the cruel truth from my lips, Clarke collapsed, overcome by shock. I carried her in my arms, handing her over to Wells with hurried instructions: "Take her to the ship, I'll deal with the grounders." Wells, though hesitant, nodded and took Clarke away.

I turned towards the direction where the spear came from, seeing branches move, and ran towards them. The grounder threw another spear, which I deflected with my axe before it could hit me, and as it fell, I grabbed it and threw it back at him. Less than fifty meters away, the enemy had no chance to dodge the spear that I impaled through his skull "aaahhhh".

The cry of agony quickly ceased. Not less than a hundred meters away, I saw three figures running towards me. One of them, recklessly, threw his spear after seeing how I stopped the previous one. I deflected it towards the ground, picked it up, and threw it back, gravely injuring another who aimed with his bow.

After taking down one of them, I lunged towards the one who had lost his spear while trying to attack me. With a fluid motion, I swung my axe in his direction. He tried to dodge it, but I anticipated his move and adjusted the trajectory of my weapon. With a sharp and blunt blow, the "thwack" resonated in the air as the axe blade sank deeply into his chest.

The wound was mortal, a grotesque opening revealed between the shreds of his clothes. Blood began to gush violently, staining the earth a dark red. He fell to his knees, his eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and pain. With a thread of a voice, he murmured something unintelligible before collapsing completely to the ground, where his life slowly drained away with his blood.

After incapacitating another, only one was left standing, approaching cautiously. We measured each other in silence, and when he finally lunged, I blocked his blow with my axe and counterattacked, cutting off his arm.

Somewhere in the forest - Wells's POV:

I heard a scream of extreme pain and stopped, tempted to turn back. But seeing Clarke unconscious in my arms, I shook my head and continued towards the camp, thinking, "I hope Logan is okay." As Clarke murmured Logan's name in her faint, my expression turned conflicted, thinking, "Maybe if I tell her the truth, she would forgive me..."

Back with Logan - Logan's POV:

After dealing with the last grounder, I saw someone fleeing with Finn's body through the cliff. It was Lincoln, the grounder who had fallen in love with Octavia. 'I will take care of you soon, sick grounder,' I thought, determined not to let an enemy with such intentions survive.

Once I secured the area, I checked the source of the beep I had heard earlier. Accessing the system, I saw that a mission had been completed.

MISSION:

FIRST KILL ON EARTH

REWARD:

UNDERSTANDING OF ALL LANGUAGES

CLAIM {YES} {NO}

I mentally pressed the {YES} button, and my mind was flooded with a torrent of languages, an invaluable tool for communicating with the grounders.

I was about to leave when a fleeting thought stopped me. I searched among the bodies of the fallen grounders and, after a thorough scrutiny, found four metal boxes. They probably contained poison and its antidote. I decided to take them and return to the ship.

Upon returning, I was confronted by a group of three mutated feline creatures, fierce creatures resembling panthers. They pounced on me ferociously, but I had no trouble dispatching them. I collected their bodies and transported them back to the ship, considering that this act might gradually earn me the loyalty of the others.
