Chapter 59: 059 Riot

At this moment, the clean-shaven man in the suit said something to Xu Xiaowei. She suddenly exclaimed, "What? You want to take him away?"

The clean-shaven man nodded slightly and then said something else to her in a low voice.

Xu Xiaowei turned her head, casting a surprised glance at Zhang Wei. These three men in suits wanted to take him away? And their ranks were extraordinarily high. Any remaining sympathy she had for Zhang Wei was replaced with frustration. Why was it so hard for her to personally take this guy to the police station?

The middle-aged man didn't say more to Xu Xiaowei and walked straight toward Zhang Wei.

The officers surrounding Zhang Wei didn't know the middle-aged man's background and were unsure whether to stop him or not, so they all looked at Xu Xiaowei.

Reluctantly, Xu Xiaowei waved her hand, signaling them to make way.

The middle-aged man reached Zhang Wei and looked at him. At that moment, Zhang Wei also looked at him. Neither showed much expression, but when their eyes met, there was a spark.

"Long time no see," the middle-aged man said with a slight smile.

"Long time no see," Zhang Wei replied, also smiling faintly.

They simultaneously extended their hands and shook firmly.

Xu Xiaowei watched this high-ranking middle-aged man shake hands with Zhang Wei, her beautiful eyes filled with disbelief. Who exactly was this guy? She had checked his files, and there was nothing special. Yet, not only was he familiar with Wang Ju from the Zhonghai National Security Bureau, but he also seemed to know this high-ranking director from the Ministry of State Security's Eighth Bureau. Xu Xiaowei was utterly puzzled.

"The big brother asked me to greet you on his behalf. He's very concerned about you."

"Thank you. How is he?"

"He's fine." The middle-aged man paused briefly, glanced around, and said, "This isn't the place to talk. Let's go somewhere else and have a good chat."

Zhang Wei hesitated for a moment, knowing well what this "good chat" implied.

The middle-aged man, noticing Zhang Wei's hesitation, said, "Buddy, I won't force you if you don't want to. But right now, it's best if you leave with me. We'll deal with everything else later."

His words were vague, but Zhang Wei understood. From Xu Xiaowei's earlier words, he knew the city's police had gathered outside the hospital. Their goal was clear: to take him out. If he stayed, it could lead to a clash between the police and the crowd. Such a situation could spiral out of control, potentially turning violent. This wasn't a place to linger.

Reluctantly, Zhang Wei nodded, agreeing to leave with the middle-aged man.

Seeing Zhang Wei's agreement, the middle-aged man wasted no time. He pulled out his phone from his suit pocket and quickly dialed a few numbers, then held it to his ear.

"Captain Wu! Are your men in position? ... Hmm, 5 minutes? Good... In 5 minutes, seal off the street in front of the hospital and clear out any unauthorized personnel at the back entrance... Once done, notify me immediately!"

Hanging up the phone, the middle-aged man glanced at Zhang Wei and said in a low voice, "We'll leave once Captain Wu's men arrive."

Zhang Wei remained silent and had no objections. Having agreed to leave with the middle-aged man, he would follow his arrangements.

Then the middle-aged man said, "Let's go, we'll take a look from the rooftop."

Without waiting for a response, he headed toward the stairwell, with the two other suited men following closely behind.

Zhang Wei sighed softly and slowly followed. When he reached Xu Xiaowei, he saw her staring at him with resentment. Zhang Wei stopped.

"Xu, I have a small favor to ask," he said.

Xu Xiaowei was taken aback. She felt irritated. Not only could she not arrest him, but now he had something to ask of her? Still, she subconsciously asked, "What is it?"

"Oh, when Qianqian wakes up, could you take her to your place for a while?"

"Take her to my place?" Xu Xiaowei was surprised again.

Zhang Wei hurriedly explained, "You see, I can't leave right now. So, I have to trouble you. Don't worry, I'll come to your place to pick her up later."

Xu Xiaowei glared at him, feeling reluctant. She would have agreed right away if it had been anyone else. But coming from him, she felt a habitual repulsion. Yet, thinking about the poor girl who had just lost her mother, she reluctantly nodded.

A slight smile appeared on Zhang Wei's lips. "Thank you."

Xu Xiaowei didn't respond, consoling herself that she was helping the little girl and that it had nothing to do with Zhang Wei.

Knowing she didn't like him, Zhang Wei said no more and quickly walked towards the stairwell...

The wind on the rooftop was strong. Though it was already summer, the night breeze still carried a hint of chill.

At this moment, the middle-aged man stood by the rooftop railing, peering down. The other two men in suits stood on either side of him, their expressions stern, seemingly indifferent to the events below. However, when they saw Zhang Wei approaching, they nodded slightly, acknowledging him.

Zhang Wei joined the middle-aged man at the railing and looked down. His heart skipped a beat. The street outside the hospital was packed with people. The road was jammed with police cars, vans, ambulances, and cars, forming a long line. The noise was overwhelming and spectacular.

Among the crowd were onlookers, but most were in uniform.

Seeing this scene, Zhang Wei felt a flicker of anger. These people dared to confront the police and storm the hospital just to deal with him. How audacious!

The hospital's automatic iron gate had long been closed. A dozen security guards and a dozen police officers formed a human barricade behind the waist-high iron gate. Xiao Liu was speaking loudly to the agitated crowd outside the gate.

On the street, a leader-like figure stood on top of a police car, shouting through a megaphone. Around the car, a dozen uniformed officers were doing their best to protect him.

At this moment, the police's words were having no effect. The situation was getting out of control. Some people were trying to climb over the automatic iron gate, and the security guards and police were pushing them back.

Both sides were shoving, stalemating, and confronting each other. The tension at the hospital gate was rising. Suddenly, a dozen men wielding wooden sticks charged out of the crowd. They rushed to the iron gate without a word, raising their sticks and striking. Cries of pain echoed as several security guards and police officers fell, causing immediate chaos at the hospital entrance.
