When Defolta's situation was informed, it was Yolan who was assigned to be her guide during the duration of her stay in the Ranger Checkpoint Camp.
Before leaving the office, Defolta inquired her final question and asked once more regarding the pass to enter town.
"You shall be receiving your pass once we verify the truthfulness of your information." Gregor stated. After answering Defolta's question, he turned his sights at Yolan who was now inside the office as well, "Yolan, please lead our esteemed guests to one of the vacant cabins. You are dismissed."
"Yes, Commander, and thank you." Yolan saluted and complied with her superior's order, leading Defolta and June outside of the office.
Once outdoors and away from the Commander's prying eyes, Yolan's posture turned relax and she decided to have a small conversation with Defolta while they walk, "So, you got some juicy bits about the Witch of the Wretched Flames, huh."
"Right." Defolta grumbled and was annoyed by the dilemma that she found herself in, "And because of that, I'm now stuck here inside for two weeks."
"Ahaha, yeah, sorry about that." Yolan chuckled in a sheepish manner and attempted to cheer her up, "It's not that bad though. For one, you are our guest here, so that's more privilege for you compared to a regular Ranger like me and the others. I mean, you and the kid have been traveling on the road for quite some time now, yes? We are more than happy to provide you both with a proper meal, with meat, vegetables, and stew, three times a day, for free, no less!"
"Well, the idea of free food does sound rather tempting, not gonna lie." Defolta's mouth was salivating at the thought of finally eating a proper meal after many days, "Alright, consider us sold!"
"Great!" Yolan gave a welcoming smile. Although it did not last long when she wanted to ask another question, "Is it also true that you were the one who killed Matilda?"
"Yes." Defolta said, "Is it really that hard to believe?"
"I mean, yeah." Yolan answered truthfully, "The Witch of the Wretched Flames from what I hear, is tremendously strong. It is said that with her word, the magic of her powerful flames is hers to command. Once, she effortlessly burned nine Witches alone singlehandedly who were on the hunt for her, followed by a battalion of at least 30 Knights and 15 Rangers where she summoned the might of the Phoenix and burned every single one of them to the ground. The flames were so potent that it did not leave anything in its wake. Not even a single ash remained to gust off with the wind."
After hearing the eye-boggling tale, a sweat poured from Defolta's head and she could not help but thought, "Fuck me, then was it all dumb luck that I managed to actually murder the bitch!? Thank Fucking God that she was blinded by her arrogance. If it were to be escalated into a proper fight, then I wouldn't be standing here and instead, be one of her black charred chicken dinners to her flames."
"Uh, are you okay, Miss Defolta?" Yolan asked with concern, seeing the troubled look on the young lady's face.
"I'm fine." Defolta assured her, "In all honesty, I never had the opportunity to gaze the full extent of Matilda's full power. Long story short, I simply caught her off guard and manage to close in to slice her throat off, preventing her from casting her spells. That's the decisive moment where I finished her off."
Of course, Defolta intentionally left out the fact that she also tortured the Witch for her own amusement, and eventually hanging her as a form of sending a strong message and leaving a significant mark. No need to freak out her new acquaintance whatsoever.
Seriously, she really should have gone for the fucking head!!
"That's actually even more impressive." Defolta was knocked out in her thoughts when Yolan complimented her, "As a Ranger, we were taught how to be decisive, and the lessons emphasize that we should not be giving any chance whatsoever for our enemies to act and immediately land the killing blow."
"As it should be." Defolta was happy that someone agreed with her, "I'm glad that we think the same."
"With your fighting skills, even if it's kind of unsavory, and the way you think, I believe the Rangers could use someone like you." Yolan said with enthusiasm. "Ever consider joining us?"
"Aha, so this is some of recruitment tactic, then." Defolta said accusingly while pointing fingers at her, "I knew it, no wonder Gregor wanted me so bad in this camp."
"Hahaha, you sure have a weird imagination, Miss Defolta." Yolan giggled amusingly, "But no, that's not obviously why you are here. I'm just saying what I genuinely think."
"Heh, right." Defolta smiled, "To answer your question, no. My priority is getting to town together with June. I'm flattered though of the invitation."
"What a shame." Yolan put her finger on her chin playfully and grinned, "Oh well, there's two weeks for you to be convinced. It is only going to be a matter of time, hehe."
"This girl." Defolta sighed in response and thought of how really outgoing the fox-girl's personality was.
Shortly after, the three arrived at Defolta's designated cabin.
"Here you go, welcome to your humble abode for the next two weeks," Yolan said while she opened the door, "If you have any concerns, don't hesitate and feel free to ask me or any of the Rangers here in camp."
"Thanks." Defolta appreciated how Yolan was truly accommodating and friendly in treating her.
"If there's nothing else, then I shall take my leave." Yolan said and after that, she pointed at another structure to her left, "If you ever change your mind, the Recruitment office is just right over there!"
Yolan laughed merrily while she now finally left the pair to their own devices. Of course, Defolta simply smiled while remaining silent in return, not wanting to dignify that question with an answer.
With two weeks of stay to look forward to, Defolta entered their new cabin while gently nudging for June to do the same and assuring her that everything was going to be alright.
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
