Chapter 2: 2: System
"Sssh..." The teenage girl with light brown hair and deep blue eyes tried to calm him down by rocking him side to side. "It's alright, little one. It's alright. We're here for you. Are you hungry? Oh, god... You're hungry..."
She snapped her head to the man who's half inside the tent, and Jay paused his crying for a second just to listen to her shouting at him.
"Jay, he's hungry!! Did you bring anything for him?!?"
Jay?
The baby Jay was full of confusion, but he kept crying. He wanted to say that he's Jay; his name is Jay, but all that came out was wailing.
"Shit, shit..." The man quickly shoved himself inside the tent, and he shrugged off his backpack.
Now that he's closer, the baby Jay can see that he's not really a man yet. Well, he's built like one, with solid muscles lining his visible forearms and biceps as big as a person's head, but he looks so young... His jet black hair was all over his face, waiting for a long overdue haircut, and his dark red eyes were full of youth, yet they're so dull, as if he's given up all hope. The teenage boy then dug through his backpack, and he pulled out a jar of... Baby food?
The girl holding baby Jay didn't waste her time putting him down on her lap and reached for something while the teenage boy tried to open the jar.
Jay didn't remember his parents being this clumsy when he was a baby. He didn't remember anything much when he was a baby, but he sure as hell remembered that his parents were more skillful with this when they handled his younger brother.
His younger brother... His family... And now he's a baby again.
Growing up, Jay has heard of stories and myths about reincarnation. Aaaah... He must've died in the hospital room, the disease won, and he died. So now he reincarnated into another life, a baby born in a different family.
Well, shit.
He's a baby born to teen parents in a tent, and destiny just had to curse him with the gift of retaining his past life's memories. Maybe his past life's memories will fade over time, then he will be a normal kid?
"Come on, little guy." The teenage girl made baby Jay sit up properly on her lap, with his head resting on her arm while her other arm was holding a small metal spoon.
"Here, here... He calmed down." The teenage boy sighed in relief as he brought the jar over.
While the baby food was being scooped out of the jar, the boy began kneeling down on the floor, which was just a huge plastic banner, but it did the job of keeping dirt out.
"Open up, aaah..." The teenage boy was the one making sounds while the girl brought the spoonful of baby food to Jay's lips.
The baby food smelled of... Roasted vegetables. Jay didn't want to eat it, but his stomach rumbled. Looks like he didn't have much of a choice in this situation.
Hesitantly, Jay opened his lips, and the spoon was shoved into his mouth. Surprisingly, baby food didn't taste bad, and the rumbling in his stomach quieted down as more food was brought to him.
"We never thought we'd spend your first birthday like this, little guy." The teenage boy smiled with melancholy in his deep red eyes. The colors of his red eyes are unnatural, and it took a while for baby Jay to realize that both the teens are dressed for cold weather even though it's not actively snowing outside.
"Your momma isn't here anymore, so you just have to deal with us." The teenage girl continued talking as she fed him spoonful after spoonful. "Maybe we'll steal a cake for you. No, you're too young to eat cake."
Oh, so they're not his parents after all. The girl mentioned that his momma isn't here anymore? Did she die or something?
Once his hunger was fulfilled, he was given a baby bottle full of water. The girl held the bottle for him until he had enough water and pushed the bottle away.
"You're being quiet again, little guy." The boy leaned in closer to Jay, and he almost laid his head on the girl's lap. "I know you're sad. We're sad, too, little guy. We all miss your momma."
So... This is his life now. His mom or whatever isn't here, and he's being raised by a pair of teenagers.
"Maybe on your second birthday, I'll bake you a cake." The girl giggled, and baby Jay played along by smiling.
His little fingers poked the boy's messy black hair, and the teen huffed a little and smiled back. Jay is a baby, so whatever he does is naturally adorable.
"Oh, so you're happy now." The teen boy blew raspberries at Jay, and Jay blew back. Who knows being a baby is this fun, but it might get old soon.
"Hey!" The girl picked up baby Jay and lifted him up in the air. He was turned around to face the girl, and Jay could finally see her face properly. She's younger than he expected, with her round face still retaining baby fat and her deep blue eyes shining with love as she looked at him. "How about on your second birthday, I'll bake a chocolate cake! You like chocolate, right? I'll even write your name on it. A chocolate cake for you, Kaon."
Kaon?

A blue interface screen came in front of his vision, and everything around him turned black. Baby Jay felt like he's being suspended in thin air while interacting with the system.

Eden Ryun? The prison guard who was tasked with looking after Kaon when he was captured? In the original work, Eden Ryun was known as Immovable, the man with the super power of being invincible. Well, Eden doesn't have any super strength or anything, he's just invincible. Being thrown off a building? He'll be fine. Kaon broke his neck? He survived, and his neck was good as new after a day, and he returned to work as a prison guard for the max security prison for villains with superpowers. Every villain in the prison was chained with power blockers, so none of them could use their superpower, and Kaon wasn't immune to it. It didn't stop the scum villain from being horribly violent towards the prison guard, though.
However, Jay doesn't know how Eden died. The guy just disappeared half way through the book, and he was mentioned dead once, but the cause of death was unknown. Maybe the original Kaon hunted him down and drained all his blood, too. That should kill him.
