Chapter 40: Denial of Hope

"I'm sorry, but I do not recall seeing any grunt that fits your description," their leader, Lord Max Brain, stated without any doubt whatsoever.

His voice was unwavering and devoid of any hesitation or uncertainty. He was indeed telling the truth; the grunt buddy of these three grunts, Grunt No. 703, had not yet passed the finish line, nor had he ever seen the very grunt himself. To him, they were indeed the first grunts to reach the finish line.

Grunt No. 704 couldn't believe what he was hearing from their leader, Lord Max Brain. His disbelief was mirrored by his two grunt comrades, No. 702 and No. 711. How could their tough grunt buddy, Grunt No. 703, not have crossed the finish line? The thought seemed absurd to them, having witnessed his feats firsthand.
