Chapter 8: Unexpected Situation

While Fenrir and Bruce were talking in private, Karisha continued eating and eating as much as she could, attracting the looks and comments of the gentlemen around her. It had been quite a while and even the hungriest person would have been satisfied after half an hour of heavy eating, but that mysterious girl was still going on like there was no tomorrow.

"That woman, if she goes on like that, she'll never get a husband. You know where all that fat and calories will go," commented a red-scaled lizard woman.

"Surely not to her stomach, it looks like what goes into her mouth goes somewhere else, is it possible to eat like that and not throw up afterwards?", commented a light-skinned human.

"I've never met someone with an appetite like that, and I grew up in a house that prepared buffets for parties and I've seen many a gobbler in my life, but she surpassed them all.", whispered the elf.

Kalishar hearing all those comments, especially the last one, stopped short of her feast, a part of her still wanted to eat more and more, she hadn't even half satiated her hunger. Still, if the girl wanted to fit in and avoid the risks, she decided to stop eating and spit out the bits of food she still had in her mouth, she looked at the group and greeted them. The group of knights didn't know what to say or how to react to the girl's weird attitude, they just knew that Kalishar was someone out of the ordinary.

"Why is everyone looking at me for eating? Isn't that something we all do equally?"

"Not in your same quantities. You don't look starving because your figure looks like that of a person who eats well. So it's rare to see you eat more dishes than the cooks prepare. My name is Tuck."

A strong man with brown hair and blue eyes approaches the girl to greet and welcome her. Kalishar watched as he extended his hand to her, she didn't understand what that sign meant, she just tried to imitate it to see if she could learn. He extends his hand and as she feels the grip, she squeezes also following the movements, for what others was something simple, she smiles as she can replicate without problem a new action to act more like others without feeling threatened.

"You were called Kalishar, right?"

"Ah, yes. That's the name I used to introduce myself."

"On behalf of all of us gentlemen we are sorry for the misfortune you must have gone through in that place, I overheard your conversation with that idiot. I can't believe you endured so long in that place, it's almost a miracle for a beautiful girl like you."

Tuck takes the girl's hand and tries to give her a kiss to show gentleness and some coquetry, for, she was too beautiful in that man's eyes. Kalishar imitates the man to continue to be liked by the group, she kisses his hand and shows the same confidence as him, the guy hears the low laughter of his colleagues who mock that he was treated like a game.

"Don't worry, I'm fine now that Fenrir will support me, I won't have to worry about anything."

"That Fenrir. Don't you think you deserve more than him?"

"More than him? Is there anyone who burns more fiercely than him?" she asked interested.

Although Kalishar had been interested in the flames of that man's soul, she had the priority of seeking the most intense flame and not daily, not for a second in abandoning Fenrir if there was someone who surpassed him. That was her mission, she depended on that flame that would help her find her freedom and a new life; the girl would do whatever it took to achieve it.

"Well what do you think, I can be that flame that lights up your life, be the hope in your eyes and I promise I will let nothing and no one hurt you."

The girl looked carefully at the man, she was looking at a decent-looking flame, but compared to Fenrir, this one didn't seem anything special or interesting to the girl. It was the same kind of flame as the other knights who had come in and died, all falling prey to the worst fear ever experienced.

"No thanks." she said in the negative, leaving Tuck speechless because no one had turned her charms down. "Fenrir is still the superior to the others in this place and I'd rather stay by his side until the end or I find someone to surpass him."

"That Tuck! For once you impressed us!

"Wait a minute, maybe whatever you saw down there with that annoying guy moved you, I mean. The story of two brothers coming together even in the worst of circumstances makes anyone happy, but Fenrir is a thief, a miser, a scumbag, someone who doesn't believe in anything but his own interests."

"Maybe that's true, although the truth is I don't know what exactly all those things mean, but from your language, I can tell it's something negative. Still, he is a being who is above all of you and that is all that matters to me because his fire is my reason for being here."

"Is she in love with Fenrir?!" Tuck and Ahori thought.

In the room where Fenri and Bruce were talking.

"Are you sure?" asked Bruce, worried.

"Yes, even if it's theory, I'm sure enough that it's a waste of time to stay here, even if I leave you the relics they took from me, you'll need more than those and very changeable plans that will guarantee you a minimal chance of success. I'm really sorry, but not even my craziest ideas will be enough, what I did downstairs was suicide without a doubt, but I had a reason to do it, now that I already accomplished that goal, I don't see why I would want to risk my life. Even though I want to be someone better for my brother, it would be a waste of life on my part if I go back there to just die."

"And that one, Kalishar, you wouldn't have any ideas to help."

"That's curious, I'd also like to know her perspective, she lived longer in the nest than anyone else. Maybe she has more answers or solutions than I do, but something tells me she won't cooperate."

"And why is that?"

"It's just a feeling, but you never know." He smiles with a hint of empathy. "Don't be discouraged, there must be an answer out there that will help us with the new zerbarix, maybe the Sun Saviors have had offspring that will help us defeat these things or the gods themselves will grant us another mercy, we just have to hang on long enough."

"I guess it was too much to ask for a miracle. Thank you so much for at least telling me."

"Just like that? You really won't question what I said or you're not going to think I see your idiot face for the sake of getting me off?" commented Fenrir in surprise.

"What can I say, it's true I expected anything from you, but truth and kindness I did not. You and Lion are very much alike, when you are truthful, you usually scratch each other's arm; besides, Lion always said that when you were kind to others, you usually look them in the face with a less mocking expression and I could notice your compassionate and friendlier look while you were telling me everything."

"One last question if you are kind. You think we could solve everything by just closing the nest."

"If it was that easy that solution, all those lives wouldn't have been lost, but I think I understand what you're thinking. I appreciate all the good and bad here, it may not be much, but it scares the hornet's nest a bit and maybe the zerbarix seeing a good amount of their own dead will decide to stay away from the areas near the exit. They may even be grateful for the food I prepared for them, but it's just a little break, when they decide to leave there to find food, you all better have gone really far away."

"Thank you very much."

Fenrir walks out and the first thing he gets when he opens the door was a punch in his face from Tuck who was waiting for him to show Kalishar that he was better than homeless scum like that guy. Despite the surprise attack, Fenrir didn't mind the action of a knight, incredibly talking to that old man made him forget his contempt for knights. Likewise, according to his perspective, he wished to know the cause of the attack on his person when he did nothing to deserve it.

"Young Tuck!" exclaimed Bruce.

"Sorry, sir, he just showed up in a rage out of nowhere and well, we're here.", said Tryforn.

"What's with this kind of behavior Tuck?! I demand an answer!", the old man ordered his subordinate.

"Nothing special captain, I just wanted the man to start respecting the knights before he left to continue his miserable life.

Tuck looked at Kalishar to show him that he had more to offer than Fenrir and that at least the girl would give him some praise for that act of manhood. The man could tell that the girl did look at the scene with interest, but she wasn't looking at him, she was looking at Fenrir as if she expected to see some wonderful response from that hustler.

"I don't know, and I don't care why the punch either. Maybe because I'm in a good mood, but I'll let it go for this time. " He removes Tuck's fist from his face. "Anyway, I have other things to do, I have to go to Flowerland and see the beautiful scenery of Lighthome. So excuse me, my partner and I are leaving now."

"Wait, Captain, maybe him?"

Tryforn approaches Bruce to understand why Fenrir is leaving and he is doing nothing to stop him. The old captain explained that despite that criminal's behavior and manner, there was some honesty in his being, that the moment they spoke they realized there was nothing to do even with his help.

"You won't do anything to hurt that guy? I don't know, isn't it normal to show dominance between you?", confused Kalishar asked Fenrir after seeing that he didn't react as she thought and still kept his inner flame brighter. "When a zerbarix is challenged by her authority, no matter how small the action, she will meet the challenge."

"Please, we have evolved to overcome such animal nonsense, fight to prove your worth. Pfff, if I must, let it be with cards or dice, I won't waste my time on something as vulgar as a fight."

"You're afraid of me eh! Look at him the bastard who strutted around thinking he was better than all of us and doesn't want to measure strength with me."

Everyone looked at Fenrir to see how he reacted to the provocation, the knights were excited at the idea of watching a fight to help distract their minds a bit, so much depression and death affected with mood and mental health. A fight between one of them beating a common swindler would be nice for a change.
