Hunter?

"Kid, wanna help us?" The man extended his hand to help me up, but the smile on his face was fake. Anxiety surged, and my mind didn't process anything, inadvertently giving hope to that false face.

"Okay," I said trembling, knowing that if I had answered differently, I could have ended up as one of the many bodies found in the narrow streets of Queens.

"Good, follow us, kid," the woman gave me a disapproving look, and then the man led the way. I remained completely still, looking back, staring at the path to the bar, but that futile and utterly depressing life was about to change completely.

A few hours later, I found myself inside a New York tunnel, exactly in a sewer. The place was filled with garbage, and I could smell an unpleasant odor from the moment I arrived. One strange thing was definitely the fact that there was no water; this meant that the sewer had been cleverly drained by someone.

"But where are we going?" I asked.

"Don't ask questions, skin and bones," the woman replied, with a harsh and rough tone.

The man remained silent, and I had to rely solely on what was happening around me, so I tried to analyze what might happen next. The sewer was full of graffiti, which meant it was a visited place, a place where people, even teenagers, entered without any difficulty. It was full of tunnels, and the two people accompanying me knew exactly where to go, so there was definitely a place they were familiar with. My brain seemed to burst with the many twisted ideas circulating in my head; I thought of who knows what, while the man stopped.

"Here we are," he said. His hand struck a completely reinforced door, three knocks, and the door opened immediately. I couldn't see much from my position, but I seemed to catch a glimpse of two eyes.

"Andrey, so good to see you," a mobster appeared to welcome the man, thus immediately revealing the name of the person who had brought me there.

"Andrey, a Russian name," I thought. The woman gave me a push and brought me in front of that sort of gatekeeper.

"And who are you?" the mobster asked. The mobster had two black eyes, a scar on one eye, completely black hair, a face full of wrinkles, and smelly clothes. The smell of sewage seemed to come from him.

"He's with me, I need him for a job," Andrey replied.

"A job? Buddy, you know things don't work like they used to around here. Nowadays, the world needs hunters," the old man replied immediately, as if he had anticipated Andrey's words beforehand.

"Indeed, he will be a hunter," the woman interjected, and those words made my blood freeze.

"A HUNTER?" My mind filled with those words continuously. The old man laughed, while the people who escorted me remained completely serious.
