chapter 4: A conversation
' Interesting... Very Interesting.... That girl was able to see through my illusion of a normal person... Although she could not see my horns and renne eye. How was that possible?'
I looked on as people went about their day, other than a nod or two, no one's seems to have a prominent reaction to my presence unlike the first girl. My illusion was still going strong, what made her different from the other ones? Is it because her flame was different?
Flames. That's what I started calling the energy I'm seeing in these people. Unlike my own chakra, which is light and resemble tidal waves, the flames are dark and more like bubbling soup. While chakra is a combination of Spiritual and Physical prowess, This energy seems to be just spiritual.
The majority of people I've come across (which isn't many, but it's enough), have their flames released in the air subconsciously to form those grotesque–looking things which they themselves cannot perceive.
However, there is always exceptions to this, such as the girl. Rather than escaping her body, the flames lay dormant and waiting for a trigger. This also suggests, like chakra, the energy can be manipulated, however, unlike chakra, the amount is fixed and cannot grow. Mm... I'll have to ponder on this more once I get the chance... Now...
' where is that Uncle?' Kaguya cannot identify a person's energy she doesn't know, so she'll have to work with the description.
She was still walking around when her eyes zoomed in on the Uncle speaking to one of the silent ones. His back turned to me. ' there you are '
As she got closer, the silent one– a female with dark green eyes– looked as if seeing a ghost.
I tapped the uncle's shoulder and smiled, "Hello, Are you Marko? I would like a conversation with you. "
As he turned, his face went white and sweat ran from his cheek.
"Do you need some water?" She titled her head, The summer's heat can be daunting.
He coughed in his hand, " Shouldn't you first introduce yourself before having a conversation?"
' what is this girl? She looks like a regular person, but she holds herself with the etiquette of a Royal or A Clan heir. her curse energy is quite Enormous! I've never seen such potent energy– like the depths of the ocean, I cannot sense where it ends! She could kill us with a finger! ' Sweat ran down his neck
" My Name is Kaguya Otsutsuki of the Otsutsuki Clan, I wish to have a conversation with the leader of this settlement. " she smiled.
' Otsutsuki Clan? I haven't caught wind of such as clan in the region, perhaps it's an up-start? No– if her clan members have enormously large curse energy like hers, then it's most likely a clan from a different region up north. I haven't had the chance to go there so my information is limited.'
" I see...I'm Marko. No family name, let us talk in better arrangements" Marko glanced at the silent one, who nodded before leading us to a relatively large tent.
As I sat, tea was served by the silent one. I nodded, " I have noticed you are quite the busy man Marko, thank you for your hospitality."
' Has she been watching me? For how long?' He smiled, " it is my pleasuasure. Am I correct in assuming that an esteemed member of the Otsutsuki clan such as yourself, did not Just came for an afternoon conversation?"
" You'd assume correctly. " kaguya smiled before dropping a bomb, " I want everyone in this settlement to work for me. "
"Pardon?" Marko's smile strained.
" You see, I am staying at one of my.....lesser lands. I wish to convert that area into.....a small village.....an extension of the Otsutsuki clan....so to speak. The land is firtile enough to grow plenty of crops and vegetations. Housing will be built, and the food eaten will be the crops grown and the livestock maintained by yourselves. Of course, there would be no need to pay taxes and other unnecessary things of the sort. " she paused to the drink tea.
'This tea needs more sugar. Maybe some honey... Hmmm.... Honey and sugar is hard to came by, especially for them. I'm quite impressed that they even have sugar. Hmmm... they can learn'
She continued, " As winter soon approaches us, Heating and other provisions will be provided, And if you have any relatives– they would be more then welcomed. "
"Kaguya sama, if I may" Marko pause," from my understanding, this arrangement holds no benefits to you..."
'So why?'
To see where Marko was coming from you have to look in the present. In this era, Clans are notorious for being traditional and up tight. Rarely do they let 'outsiders' join the clan aside from introducing 'new blood', serving as slaves, Political marriages that mutually benefit both clans or in one of the rarest occasion, being a very, very powerful sorcerer .
Clans, and even the Royal Court is always untrustful and secretly in a political tug of war. Even their alliances aren't always 100% with each other and betrayal is merely a soup served every 5 years or so. In spite of that, clans nearly ever look towards the non-sorcerer population or ' Monkeys' and instead treat them as a lesser species.
So imagine Marko's surprise when a clan head(or heir because no ordinary clan member could propose such a thing) from a seemingly powerful clan speaks of bringing(adopting) in a group of refugees/scoundrels/ outcast/"Monkeys,"to be apart of a clan such as this one.
One agenda Marko could think of is using the people as meat shields against other hostile clans, however, Talking with Kaguya sama, Marko does not get that aura from her.
Kaguya looked blinked at the inquiry,
"Of Course I am also benefiting from the arrangement– by agreeing with this, you all will become my people and server under me."
Marko really wanted to understand, ' why choose us? Why not hire someone of the Fubaki Clan or the Yagagara clan, those two are excellent in growing crops?'
"Why are you helping us? Some of us were out cased from our respective clans and some seek refuge in this place. This group is a mixture of sorcerers and non-sorcerers, why go through the effort to help both and not hire someone more.... Suitable? "
Kaguya leaned as if to tell a secret, involuntarily enabling Marko to do the same.
"That's because..."
" I can! " Kaguya's eyes twinkled,
" because I want to. I need not a reason other than that do i ? "
'And if Adopting you all fulfills one of my goals in this life, well. That's just me.'
Marko looked shocked before sighing, " I suppose you're right. May I have some time to discuss with the others?"
"Of course, will two weeks suffice?"
Marko nodded as they both stood, " plenty"
Kaguya smiled as the illusion faded to reveal her true form, " I wait your answer then, Goodbye "
Marko's eyes widen and the silent one gasps, kaguya was gone before anyone else spoke.
