Chapter 19: Torture time

The guest room of the generous residents of Ant Hill was quite bigger than Lucky expected. He thought he would get a coffin-sized room to sleep in, but it was better than expected — not the best, though.

Lucky sat down on the edge of the bed, looking around the room.

"Scan," he whispered, scanning the room for any secret cameras or wiretaps. When nothing suspicious came up, Lucky blinked, and the scan disappeared.

"I guess if all their money is going to the research, they have to cut down the budget in some areas," he commented, arching a brow as the imp slowly appeared in the corner. "At least they got a bed and a bathroom."

This would make a nice cell.

"Ke…"

"Quiet." Lucky swiped the space in front of him and a screen only he could see immediately appeared. "So, what about these loots?"

When he was fighting with the hellhounds, Lucky noticed the loot drops every time he defeated one. He didn't pay attention to it since many things had happened in such a short time. But now that he had the time, he could explore whatever system he had without interruptions.

Lucky zoomed in on the loots, displaying a 3D perspective of it. However, he didn't bother taking them out of his special storage. Instead, he moved on to the packages he must deliver. It had been exactly twenty-nine hours since he got into this world and yet, he still had no idea what he was supposed to do with these packages.

"There's not even a clue, but there's punishment if I misdeliver them." He clicked his tongue, spinning a random package in front of him. "No matter how I toss and turn them, nothing."

A deep sigh escaped him, convinced those cherubs were screwing with him. Even a genius wouldn't be able to guess who these packages belong to. As Lucky spun the package, he accidentally made the wrong gesture. The package was moved away and replaced with a new one.

"Hah." Lucky leaned back, eyes still on the 3D perspective of the package. "This package is smaller."

Curious, Lucky checked the packages one by one. Although from the grid view, they all look the same. However, once he put them at different angles, it revealed their actual size. Some were smaller parcels, while others were bigger. There was one that was big, though. Like a human-sized box.

"Interesting." He rocked his head, in a little awe, but not surprised. He had already got the biggest surprise when a truck ran over him.

"Book of Guide." The inventory screen disappeared as soon as he opened his palms. A book slowly appeared over his palm and fell once it materialized.

"Hey, Imp," called Lucky as he opened the book. "Go outside and shout."

"Ke?!"

He glanced at the little imp, who was initially sneaking into his bag. "Go out the door and scream your lungs out." He tipped his head toward the door. "I want to know if this room is soundproof. Though the walls look thick, I want to make sure."

"Ke!" the imp obediently jumped toward the knob. It pulled the door away, taking advantage of the time to get out before it fully closed. Since it was Lucky's orders, the imp screamed at the top of its lungs without care if someone else could hear it.

"Ke!!! Keeee!"

When the imp was panting and exhausted, it looked from left and right. After making sure no one was coming, it jumped to the knob to ask Lucky if he heard it. But as it tried to push the door, it wouldn't budge.

"Ke?" The Imp tilted its head, trying it one more time but to no avail. "Ke!"

The imp tried and tried, even using its 'strength' to kick it open, but it wouldn't. Only after countless times did the imp realize Lucky locked it out.

"Ke! Ke —" The imp froze as it heard footsteps from the end of the hallway. The second it saw shadows, its body slowly changed in color, and like a chameleon, it blended with the knob.

Meanwhile, Lucky nodded in satisfaction when he heard nothing, even after locking the door. He even placed his ear against the door, but even the Imp's weeping didn't penetrate it.

"As expected from an old research facility. This room is soundproofed," he muttered, looking back at the bed where the Book of Guide was. "Now, it's torture time."

Lucky marched back to the bed, picking up the book without a second hesitation. He closed his eyes and drew a deep breath. Quite dramatic, but the pain he went through just by reading was worse than the eternal fire of damnation.

When Lucky huffed a breath, he opened the book from the very beginning. He only read two sentences when he started feeling this sting in his chest, but it was bearable.

[The host will be given a few basic skills…]

[... Sight Sift grants host visual information with precision…]

[Once the Host makes contact… saving information will be in the archive…]

[Leveling up grants special skill points and stats points… to level up… experience…]

Slowly, Lucky went down until he was kneeling beside the bed. The more he read, the more painful the sting felt. At first, it was like a needle poking his heart. But now, it felt like an ice pick was poking it. Sweats started forming on his back and forehead, grinding his teeth until foam started forming in the corner of his mouth.

[Sub Quest will open up at Level 10…]

Lucky felt the need to rush the reading, trying to get as much information as he could before the pain spreading in his body kicked in. Even when he was already gasping for air and the sclera in his eyes turned red, he continued to skim through the pages like a madman.

[Host can choose rewards, including but not limited to Clues about the recipients… lucky points for refinement… and a guaranteed spin in the Gacha Wheel…]

"Ugh!" Before Lucky could finish the entire statement, he dropped the book, as he couldn't take the pain anymore. However, knowing he couldn't stop there, Lucky forced himself to read the entire page until his eyeballs inflated and almost popped.

That night, Lucky spent the entire evening writhing in pain while tossing his body against the wall and floor. Just for several pages of the book, he almost lost his life.
