The afternoon sun bathed the streets of Kyoto in a warm glow, casting long shadows across the cobbled paths as Feng Ruoxi walked in her usual, composed manner. She enjoyed the rare moments of solitude these afternoon walks offered, a brief escape from the pressures of her dual life. After returning from the trip to Beijing with Jiang Yukang, she had slipped back into her routine—though her mind was always turning, constantly calculating her next moves. 

Today, however, there was an unease lingering at the back of her mind, a sense of being watched that she hadn't been able to shake since they had arrived home. She was used to living under scrutiny, both from the elites of Kyoto and the enemies she had accumulated over the years, but this was different. It was more personal. More... intrusive.
