Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Inspection by the Millelith

Emerging from the ruins of Guili Plain, Wang Daoyi carried the large vase and walked towards the main road.

Some treasure hoarders hadn't gone far yet, so it wasn't convenient to put down the large vase to avoid arousing suspicion from others.

Although Guili Plain was large and used to be the largest settlement in Linyue, after the dispersal of Guili Settlement, few people lived in this vast land. Coupled with the constant emergence of treasure hoarders and guards from the ruins, there were very few ordinary people active in this area.

Most of the original roads had been abandoned, with only one major road being maintained by the Qixing.

This main road intersected at Guili Plain, connecting to the Wangshu Inn, leading left to the Jueyun Karst, and right to the mining town of Mingyun Village. Heading downward, it led to the bustling commercial port of Teyvat, also the capital of one of the Seven Nations, Liyue Harbor.

If Liyue Harbor was the maritime lifeline of Liyue, then this main road was the terrestrial lifeline.

Due to the importance of this main road, the Qixing of Liyue dispatched a large number of Millelith troops to be stationed here.

From Liyue Harbor to the farthest stone gate on the main road, there was a Millelith outpost at intervals, not only providing shelter for passing merchant caravans and travelers but also cutting off the rampant activities of treasure hoarders in this area.

As Wang Daoyi walked towards the main road, fewer and fewer treasure hoarders were within his sight. After all, the closer to the main road, the easier it was to be discovered by the Millelith. However, there was still a shadow lurking behind Wang Daoyi.

It was the middle-aged treasure thief who had acted as a mole for the grave robbers headed by Ironhead in the ruins.

Being tracked was entirely within Wang Daoyi's expectations. After all, he had long sensed Ironhead's plan to use him as a scapegoat. Thus, when he emerged from the ruins, Ironhead would naturally send someone to follow him.

Originally, Wang Daoyi thought Ironhead would directly assign this middle-aged treasure hoarder to team up with him, openly monitoring him. But unexpectedly, Ironhead preferred clandestine surveillance.

"Heh, a bunch of disorganized people will always remain disorganized. Even if their strength far exceeds mine, they still only think about sneaky tactics."

Wang Daoyi felt disdainful in his heart, regarding Ironhead's behavior of secretly monitoring him with contempt.

In fact, if Ironhead didn't immediately order someone to control Wang Daoyi upon leaving the ruins, then Ironhead had already lost. After all, Ironhead's plan was that once Wang Daoyi returned to the main headquarters in Minlin, he would naturally become the scapegoat.

However, Wang Daoyi's plan was to leave the ruins and go directly to Liyue, change his identity, and start anew.

It was different from other treasure thief groups.

First, Wang Daoyi was only sixteen years old and didn't possess the typical gangster aura of ordinary treasure thief group members.

Second, Wang Daoyi was a child raised in Qingce Village. He had a household registration in Linyue. Although he was an orphan, the steward of Qingce Village, Granny Ruoxin, could verify Wang Daoyi's identity. Originally, the reason given for the original owner leaving Qingce Village was to join an adventuring party. According to the information in Qingce Village, Wang Daoyi was still a normal orphan who grew up there.

So, while the Millelith was seen as venomous snakes and scorpions by treasure hoarders, to Wang Daoyi, they were like family.

Therefore, the middle-aged treasure hoarder who followed behind Wang Daoyi could only watch as Wang Daoyi put down the large vase in his hand by the roadside and walked into the Millelith outpost.

"Could this person be an undercover agent for the Millelith? No, I have to leave here quickly and inform Big Brother Ironhead!"

The middle-aged man, watching Wang Daoyi enter the Millelith outpost, didn't consider that Wang Daoyi might want to clear his identity. Instead, he immediately thought that Wang Daoyi might be an undercover agent for the Millelith, coming out to report to the Millelith after leaving the ruins.

If Wang Daoyi knew what the middle-aged treasure hoarder was thinking, he might have sighed, "Suspicion is everywhere," but there were no 'ifs' in the world, and Wang Daoyi didn't know what the middle-aged treasure thief was thinking.

Approaching the Millelith outpost.

"Please stop and cooperate with our inspection."

A Millelith soldier holding a white-tasseled spear stopped Wang Daoyi.

"Inspection?"

Wang Daoyi questioned.

The soldier nodded and said, "Yes, we have received direct orders from the Qixing because of the recent rampant activities of treasure hoarders, requiring us to inspect for any suspicious individuals again. Please rest assured, if there are no issues, the Millelith comrades and I will naturally not trouble you!"

Wang Daoyi understood. Of course, he knew that these Millelith soldiers were here to inspect treasure hoarders. However, he currently presented himself as an adventurer returning from Mondstadt and naturally didn't know about the recent activities of treasure hoarders.

"Are you the only one conducting the inspection here?" Wang Daoyi was somewhat surprised to see only one Millelith soldier on duty in such a large camp.

"Of course not. My companion is resting. He is much better than me. He can read faces and can tell who the bad guys are at a glance, while I can only interrogate one by one. Thanks to his abilities, things have been much calmer lately." Pausing, the Qianyan soldier showed a look of envy. "I wish I had his skills."

Wang Daoyi nodded.

"How do I cooperate with your inspection?"

"Name, place of origin, and why you are here?"

The Millelith soldier with the white-tasseled spear took out a thick list and looked at Wang Daoyi.

"My name is Wang Daoyi, from Qingce Village in Linyue. I left Qingce Village to adventure in Mondstadt a year ago. I've just finished my adventure recently and am planning to rest in Linyue Harbor for a while."

Wang Daoyi wasn't worried that his name would be on the list. Since joining the treasure hoarder, he hadn't used his real name. Because of his age, everyone in the group simply called him "Little Ghost."

The Millelith soldier checked the treasure bag Wang Daoyi was carrying and saw only a few cups and bowls wrapped in cloth and some adventure supplies. He nodded, "Oh, indeed, your name isn't on the wanted list. Thank you for your cooperation. You can rest inside the outpost now. There are several merchant caravans resting inside. Please keep quiet and don't disturb others. If there is anything special, please inform my comrades inside the outpost. You can also come to me. My name is Zhenxiang."

"Okay, Brother Zhenxiang."

Wang Daoyi nodded politely and entered the outpost, finding a corner to rest.

On the other side, the middle-aged treasure hoarder also returned to Ironhead's side, informing him of the possibility that Wang Daoyi might be an undercover agent for the Millelith.

"Damn it, how could that kid be an undercover agent? Quick, inform the others, we need to leave."

Ironhead, who had originally planned to wait for the outer treasure thief groups to attract the attention of the MIllelith before leaving, suddenly felt a bit panicked when he heard that Wang Daoyi might be an undercover agent for the Millelith. He immediately realized that he couldn't continue to wait, or else he might attract a team from the Millelith for encirclement.

Wang Daoyi didn't know that his entry into the Millelith camp had caused Ironhead to flee prematurely. Right now, he only felt a wave of relaxation. The tension that had built up throughout the day instantly dissipated, and a strong sense of drowsiness surged up. Finding a comfortable position, he entered dreamland.

Meanwhile, at the edge of the camp, another Millelith soldier who had been observing Wang Daoyi also relaxed when he saw Wang Daoyi falling asleep. Although he didn't see Wang Daoyi's face, he knew that in the Millelith camp, he could relax and enter dreamland without being on guard against the people there. Those who trusted the MIllelith were unlikely to be enemies of Linyue.

Oh, this Millelith soldier's name is Fugui, the colleague of Zhenxiang, the soldier who could read faces.
