Chapter 2: Let go and live on

Breathe in~ breathe out~

I sit there in bed staring at the luggage in front of me.

It was a luggage full of my belongings. In the table next to me is a letter, a letter that I wholeheartedly wrote last night.

The letter was addressed to the baron, father of Antoinette. The father kind enough to sponsor me for my studies here in the academy so that me and his daughter would be considered equal and date.

And, right now, I'm afraid of sending this letter to him.

"Honestly, I feel bad for ruining his expectations by dropping out of school. But hey, at least his daughter will exceed everyones expectations by being a saint."

Ugh~ I feel sick thinking about it.

Oh well, at least I won't ever see her again after this. Question is, where would I go after though?

I surveyed around my room and noticed my sword laying on top of my luggage.

Right, I did have a sword. I stood up and went to grab it.

I bought this sword impulsively a while back when I first arrived at the capital. Back then, I was still a countryside bum and was curious about everything. Looking back at it now, I remember how I bought this sword just to look cool.

Uwah~ I feel so cringed out. Still though, because of that impulse buy, I can start a career by being a swordsman.

Like... let's say, an adventurer, or even a knight!

Now that I think about it, I never really learned how to use a sword.

As a swordsman in the academy, I was supposed to take classes related to my class in my remaining 3 years.....

Now, I am going to drop out.

With that thought in mind, I stared at my luggage.

"Should I really drop out?"

No no no no no no no. Stop overthinking, I already made the decision, and nothing can stop it now.

But like..... How can I make a career on being a swordsman without knowing how to use the sword?

Ah screw this! I'll just travel around and go back to my hometown. There was a lot of guards and knights back then, maybe I could learn a move or two from them.

I hang my sword on my waist and started to carry my luggage.

"At this moment, everything will change." I said as I opened the door.

---

"Okay, that would be 3 copper." A worker, wearing worker like clothes said.

Currently, I am on the post office of the capital. I stopped by to deliver a letter that was meant for the baron.

At first, after I went out, I forgot about this letter back in the dorm. I even forgot to give a drop out letter to the principal so I quickly wrote one and gave it to him.

Now, I am finishing up the letter for the baron after paying it up.

The letter service is kind of costy. At first, I have to buy a stamp for the letter to prove that it was a letter meant only for the kingdom. The stamp cost 2 coppers. Now, for the service of sending the letter by the post office is 3 coppers. That means, I have spent a total of 5 coppers just for today without the fees for food.

"Andddd~~ it is all done. The letter should arrive between 3-5 work days. Thank you for coming." The worker said smiling at me.

With that I returned a smile too as a kind gesture.

"Thank you too."

I then took my luggage and started to head towards the exit of the post office.

I should go get food. I thought to myself, while walking away from the crowded environment inside.

After stepping out, I went a few meters outside before a gust of wind erupted from the roof of the post office. There I saw a massive winged bird carrying what seemed like packages behind it's back flying away into the sky.

"Wooah~"

A lot of people stood still, including me, watching as the bird flies to the skies.

"The world sure is great." I said walking to the nearest bakery.

That's right, I can't be down just because Antoinette and I broke up. The world is amazing, with countless of new things to learn and see. In fact, my class of swordsman isn't that bad, it's just that she got a better one. It's time to set out into the big world!

Grugghghgh~~~ my stomach grumbled.

I should hurry and grab some food.

In the bakery I bought myself some bread and refilled my water pouch full of water. The bread cost like 4 coppers while the refill cost 1 copper. So in total, today I spent 10 copper coins or 1 silver coin.

I started biting down that delicious sour dough bread as I walked across the market of the capital.

"Where should I go next? With the letter and the food I still have 9 silver coins left, and with my savings I still have a lot more. Maybe, I should go the next town, or even to the next kingdom closest.

Right! I should go to the west from here! The country of werhan, famous for its most beautiful beaches and blue ocean, and I'm also craving for that delicious seafood!"

With that decision I started going to the west of the capital. In each gates of the capital, north, west, east, and south, there exists what we call the stables. Just outside the walls, the stables all have horses and carriages meant for different parts of the kingdom.

At first I would go the the border town of the west, ledard. And cross the border by paying for it with fees.

I remember the baron telling me that crossing the border is just a small amount of 2 silvers. That's something I have and way much more! So, why would I not just go and cross it!

I was walking along the market heading the the west gate of the capital. When, someone grabbed my foot.

"You! You! Give me some money and water!!!"

It was an old man. Not really old, but I would say his in the middle of his 50s.

He was tattered, dirty, and even smelly. Smelled like alcohol in his mouth. And he smell all over his body.

"Let go of me old man, you're going to make my pants smelly with the way you smell. Let go!" I grabbed my pants and tried snathing it away from the smelly old man.

No matter how much I tried though, his grip on my pants is way too strong.

"You're a swordsman right? I'll teach you how to use the sword if you just give me some money and water!"

"Nice try old man! I know a scam when I hear one. Now let go of my pants or I'll call the guards!"

Hearing me mention the guards the old man immediately let go of my pants.

"Whew~ thank you. Never ever do that ever again old man." I started walking away from that old man.

As I get far and further away, the smell of alcohol slowly vanished from my nostrils.

Now that I think about it. Maybe I was too mean, all he said was money and water. Plus I have a surplus of money and just refilled my water.

You know what, I will go back and help that old man. He also said that he knew swordsmanship so maybe that was true.

I turned around and headed back to the old man, when I heard a scream.

"KYAAAAAAAA!!! Please help meeee!!"

"That location, it's the same location as that old man!"

I turned around immediately and started rushing to that old man. I run and run until I saw the scene.

It was the old man doing the same thing to me but this time it was on a little girl.

"That old man!"

I sprinted from where I was standing and went to save the little girl.

"Old man let go of that girl!!!"

I positioned myself in a kicking form and kicked the arm of that old man.

Knghh- It hurtssss!!!!!

I tried kicking the arm of the little girl but all I felt was pain in legs.

What the hell is up with this old mans arm. It felt like kicking a massive metalic rock!

Seeing the man still holding the girl. I can't just standby because of the pain. I balanced myself and touched the arm of the old man while I gently touched the little girls arm.

"Old man, this is my last warning. Let go."

The old mans eyes was looking down, and darkness covered his eyes. His body started excerting a gloomy aura and his vibe changed.

It was dark, it was scary. It felt like the old man could just kill everyone in the area right now.

"Old man?"

And in that moment, as if time stopped, the old man slowly raised his head. It was like a glooming dispair is to happen. Every inch the old man raises his head the more I felt that a disaster is going to happen.

I prepared myself. I held onto my swords handle and my other arm guarding the little girl.

"I..."

Then... As his head raised. It's happening.

"Old man!!!" I unsheated the sword ready to strike the man when he said something.

"I need water..." And then...

The old man passed out.
