Chapter 14: Chapter 12: Time For The Royal Selection
AN: Hi, sorry I was gone for so long, just have a lot on my plate right now, and I'll post chapters when I can.
I'll, unfortunately, be focusing on my original story 'The Endless Lustful Ruler And His Harem System' which will have a daily update, or as close to that as I can. There are personal reasons why, again sorry to the fans of this fic. It's an isekai story about a protagonist who went through a lot due to forces out of his control, ended up dying, and got a harem system. I'm trying and if you're interested or have questions feel free to ask.

After some resting time for everyone just enjoying the sort of after-party of the fight, the kids came because they wanted to talk to Nilcaris. The 6 kids in question, walked up to Nilcaris, Emilia, Subaru, and Beatrice who was busy fawning over Puck.
"Mister, you were so super cool!" One of the boys with a bald head and a chubby body said.
"I want to be strong like you, you know, I'm gonna be a hero!" Another boy with spiky red hair in a sort of ponytail added.
"I mean, it was awesome but we can't do cool stuff like that." The other boy with short brown hair commented.
"You say that like it's a problem, we just gotta be cool in another way." The tallest boy with spiky brown hair with a ponytail expressed with a smile.
"It's like you boys don't listen, we came here to talk the mister, not about being heroes even though I would make a better hero than you all, right Petra?" A girl with messy brown hair, and confidently declared.
"I mean, I think you all would make the best heroes together. You'll all do great your own way." A reddish-brown-haired girl, Petra replied with a warm smile.
"Would you look at that? You got yourself a little fan club." Subaru raised his eyebrows at Nilcaris, then lightly hit his arm with his elbow as he did so.
"That means nothing good, the more they spread about me the more my enemies will know. This is the life of a vengeful selfish greedy man, I have enemies, and I always will." Nilcaris looked at the sky with melancholy in his expression being purposely dramatic.
At the same time, Emilia hid behind Nilcaris. On the other hand, Beatrice was busy hugging Puck. "So fluffy! Who's the fluffiest? You are!"
"What are you even talking about? Don't say weird stuff out of the blue. It's creepy." Subaru could only look at Nilcaris with narrowed eyes, and his expression reflected the oddeness the words said made him feel.
"I need enemies, who else will I use as an excuse to dump all my frustrations on? They just make good punching bags, and I can murdarize them legally… Probably..." Nilcaris asked as he did the thinker pose, using an amethyst disk to sit in the air, revealing the "hidden" Emilia even more.
"That's... That sounds evil somehow... Anyway, Emilia-Tan, what are you doing?" Subaru recoiled at the evil before him, to use your enemies as mere tools to discharge your frustrations, truly an act of evil genius.
"Maybe, but I am one not bound by good or evil, only by my dreams, goals, whims, my harem, lust, and most importantly the eternal grind. I am he who lives for my seven principles, ambition, growth, revenge, power, loyalty, entertainment, and freedom. That is, I, Nilcaris Kiwv Love, he who is God to himself." The amethyst-eyed young man announced as the wind brushed his ocean-blue hair like an immortal declaring his defiance to heaven, he stood proud, but he did not believe in the path to immortality only the DAO of the eternal grind.
The kids, Emilia, Subaru, and even Beatrice, and Puck looked at Nilcaris confused and even somewhat intrigued by what he was even talking about.
"He sounds crazy... I don't know if I still want to be like him." The first of the boys said.
"Yeah... I'll be a better hero myself..." The second boy added.
"Maybe you aren't cool..." The third boy was shocked.
"... That sounds kinda super great... I think." The fourth boy seemed to understand bits and pieces, pretending he knew what was going on.
"You boys don't know anything, he's talking about being a hero. I know. Right, Petra?" The first girl tried to pretend she knew what he was talking about at all.
"Hmmm, that... I don't think I know that, sorry... But it sounded pretty... uh.... sounded like a pretty big deal." Petra was just as confused by him.
"The kids aren't the only ones... You're pretty off it in the head, man. Though, I have to respect a man of culture when I see one. Anyway, Emilia-Tan…" Subaru pat his back unsure of how else to react, so he turned his attention to Emilia, who was still poorly hiding.
"I… hmm… Hiiiiii!" She awkwardly waved her hand at Subaru and continued to try to disappear behind Nilcaris, her cheeks slightly reddish and her current demeanor shaky at best.
"Ok, that's enough. Don't worry, it will be fine." Nilcaris said and walked behind Emilia and pushed her to face the kids.
This caused the kids to look at a shaky waving Emilia, and she only began waving her hand faster with an unnecessarily wide smile.
"Hi! Miss! You have pretty hair." The first of the boys said with a smile.
"Her ears are really pointy… I think there was something about that." The second boy tried to remember but nothing seemed to come to mind.
"Her eyes are cool though, they are crazy." The third boy didn't seem to care rather focusing on her eyes with a purple irises and blue pupils.
"Hi, lady. You look pretty." The fourth and tallest boy added summing up their thoughts.
"Wow, she's so sparkly." The first girl smiled wide.
"That dress is really nice… I hope I can make something like that one day." Petra looked at her dress up and down intrigued by it.
From there, Emilia looked at the kids for a bit but then took a deep breath and spoke up, greeting them before beginning a conversation with them. There was a big smile on her the entire time as she talked to them, looking refreshed in some sort of way.
After all, a young half-elf girl with silver hair such as her would expect the reflection of the witch of envy, Satella to follow her every step since she was the burning image of the one who brought a great disaster 400 years ago. In such a case, it was not every day that one would get to be closer to others. However, for Emilia, such a thing would not be a problem.
That was a nice evening spent in nice moments.
Time continued to pass, and Nilcaris got ready for what was to come next, talking to Beatrice, Elsa, and Meili in his room back at the mansion.
"As you three might know, I plan to resurrect the witches, but that's not the extent of my plans, no, far from it, my main goal goes beyond that, let's say I want to build my own nation. I know it's not a small feat, but don't worry I have a plan, and the ambition to back it up, all I need is my dear followers doing their, part, and you'll get the rewards you desire, and more, much more." Nilcaris smiled a slight tinge of satisfaction on his face as his confidence in his words was oddly high.
"How foolish... I wonder. I'll be there for you since we have a contract, I suppose." Beatrice seemed mad on an exterior level, but it was clear from the small smile on her face that this idea was one she liked whether she would ever admit it or not.
"That's very greedy of you. I like it, such desires only make your guts all the more appealing, I can't wait to hunt them, though for now, I'll be happy with knitting equipment, can never be too prepared." Elsa got closer to Nilcaris and traced his face with her finger, and then went to sit on his bed her legs crossed in a calling manner, she was teasing him.
"Tch! You're just crazy! You can't just build a nation because you feel like it! Nobody will want o live under a nobody's rule if you even manage to secure a safe territory, and then you'll just get crushed by the already established powers before you can do anything." Meili was scratching her hair mad at Nilcaris' attitude towards such a serious matter that could easily get them killed, he was kind of strong, but nothing big, so she could not understand his confidence.
"Don't worry, I can do more than what I've shown, things will get interesting, and I'm not in a hurry, everything at its own pace. Now, you two are dismissed, go have your fun, as for you Elsa, just tell Ram, you want the knitting equipment, it will be fine." Nilcaris shrugged seemingly not worried at all.
"Sister! This insane dumbass will get us killed, please stop listing to him!" Meili pleaded completely unconvinced.
"Hehehehe, dear Meili, don't be so serious, he's more impressive than he seems, I can tell, just give it some time, I've been watching closely, so I know, I'm always watching." Elsa lifted Meili and took her out of the room, her soft voice that dripped with drizzles of kill intent as alluring as ever.
"That woman is way too dangerous, she actually wanted to kill me, just now. Hahahaha." Nilcaris was amused by the assassin's behavior.
"You have an unusual mind, I suppose. Even so, that blue-haired girl was not wrong, this isn't an endeavor to take lightly so, live up to your calling." Beatrice looked at him in the eyes as the words left her mouth, the expression on her face a testament to her worry.
From there, the rest of the day was spent with them reading, and Nilcaris training, Beatrice went off to do something, and the night came.
[This sure was a day, is this your plan? To rope them in like this?] Genive asked rather curious about his actions.
(Kinda... I have a bunch of goals, but right now the focus is on gaining personal power, decent allies, and forming the harem. The witches and kingdom building are things I want, but not things I can really aim for right now, however, idealism as criticized as it is ropes people in, it gives them hope of a grandiose future, and even cynical people fall victim to it. So, I was just laying the chess board for a future game.) Nilcaris responded calmly well aware of the situation he was in, and what he wanted to do about it.
The day soon ended, and the days that followed had Nilcaris use his time to put everything in place. He talked to Roswaal a few times to get their ideas in order over some tea. Whenever he found time, he would have some fun with Emilia, Subaru, and Puck as they had hangouts with Beatrice joining them on occasion, which would lead to arguments between her, and Subaru. Even Rem and Ram got some of his time, as he would just randomly start doing things with them to help, and no matter how much they complained to Roswaal, he would just find it amusing, so they could not stop him since he didn't ruin anything.
Aside from that, Elsa and Nilcaris kept sparing with each other, and the mabeasts were under Meili's control, his level steadily rising as he went up against worse creatures that he had Elsa attract towards Meili's control range. Then there was his alone time with Beatrice where they would read, discuss magic together, and even some magic theories she taught him.
Finally, he would visit the village near the Roswaal manor with Subaru, Emilia, Puck, Beatrice, and Rem or Ram depending on who was available that day. Not only that, Nilcaris even forced Subaru to train a bit and while it didn't do too much for him, it allowed the black-haired young man to hone his reflexes, muscles, and overall ability to fight.
Another week flew by like nothing had happened and it was productive as the amathyst eyed young man rose all the way to level 10, and was feeling better than ever.
One day as he was coming back with Elsa, and Meili from the training both of them wearing white and beige more modest clothes rather than their purple, and black clothes to avoid calling attention to themselves, he saw a dragon carriage parked at the front of the manor, something that was not uncommon there, so not much mind was paid to it until he saw something that caught his eye.
Standing there in front of the carriage talking to Subaru was an elegant old man with the disposition of a gentleman wearing a well-decorated black suit. His face was wrinkly but contained a certain air to himself.
"Well, a young man such as yourself should not have eyes like those, if I didn't know any better I would say you have tasted death firsthand." The old man said to Subaru with a chuckle but something in his eyes told a different story a much more serious one, as if his words were not as playful as one might think.
(From what I know, Subaru only died once so far, but I might be mistaken... Then again, it's Wilhelm, so I would not be surprised that he still sees something.) Nilcaris could only sigh internally as he thought about it.
"Oh, how pleasant... to see such delicious well-aged guts right there." Elsa made a comment upon seeing the old man.
"Sis, I don't know... There's something scary about the old man..." Meili added pulling on Elsa's clothes so she won't do anything rash.
"Don't attack him, you'll die," Nilcaris said with a smile, as he walked up to the two men talking.
"Death? Could you not say such creepy things, Mister Wilhelm." Subaru had a bit of a forced smile.
"Hahahah, you're right, I came here as an escort not to scare you, though I must say, this place is a bit more crowded than I remember." Wilhelm looked at the approaching three his eyes lingering on Elsa for a bit before he turned to Nilcaris, Meili then back to Subaru.
"We are Emilia-Tan's knights!" Subaru announced with his chest puffed out.
"We? I don't remember signing up." Nilcaris said in response.
"Don't do that in front of the old man, you're totally destroying my flow," Subaru complained as he narrowed his eyes at the amethyst-eyed young man.
"It's not my fault, you're the one making stuff up." Nilcaris shrugged his shoulders.
"You're so unreliable when it matters." Subaru rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
"So, you're not knights? Well, I figured, but since you brought it up, I am rather curious about your work here." Wilhelm asked clearly trying to understand what was going on.
"We're esteemed guests, though things could change quite a bit in the future," Nilcaris responded, and to this Subaru reluctantly nodded, a sigh escaping his mouth.
"Truly an unexpected turn... It seems things are going to be rather busy in the near future." Wilhelm chuckled knowing that this would have an effect on the royal selection.
The royal selection was the event to decide who would become the forty-second monarch of the Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica, where they now reside. The selection will last for three years, ending one month prior to the Dragon Ceremony that is set to renew the Kingdom's covenant with the Divine Dragon, a figure who acts as the guardian of the kingdom. The five candidates were selected, all of whom were chosen by the Dragon Jewels. Just like the one that had been previously stolen from Emilia by Felt.
"So, you're actually going to tell me what's going on here today?" Subaru insisted very curious about the visit.
"That's something will learn about when you have to, patience is a great virtue." Wilhelm smiled as he spoke set on not saying any more than necessary.
"Don't bother Subaru, it's probably something to do with the royal selection, they won't talk about that with just anyone." Nilcaris shook his head, a playful smile on his face.
"Who are you calling just anyone?! I'm a soon-to-be knight!" Subaru rebuked full insistence.
"You're not wrong..." Nilcaris nodded giving him that one.
While Elsa just watched the interaction with a smile, and Meili clung onto her skirt from behind, not wanting to be seen by the old man.
"A soon-to-be knight? How interesting, may I check something, Subaru?" Wilhelm's curiosity got the best of him as he saw Nilcaris agree with Subaru.
"Huh?... Yeah." Subaru nodded.
Just then the old man touched his arm and nodded coming to a conclusion, and turned around to get back to place. Only for him to swiftly pull his sword out and instantly put it to Subaru's neck, something the black-haired young man actually dodged, even though it would not have hit him anyway.
"Hohohoh, It has been such a long time since I misjudged a young man, it is clear that you are working towards something. Maybe in a decade or two, you'll be a proper knight in your own right." Wilhelm said using his own standard, so it would probably come earlier than that.
"A decade! Two Decades?! I don't mind the attack just now, but this is brutal, old man Wilhelm." Subaru almost felt the efforts he put in to train so far were for nothing.
"Don't let it put you down, not everyone can live up to those standards. You're doing great for yourself so far." Nilcaris pat his back.
Right then a young feminine person with brown hair, cat ears, and a tail came up wearing a blue and white dress. "Wilhelm, I hope I didn't keep you waiting, but looking at the crowd, I guess you got yourself busy. Telling stories about your cool years?"
"Not really, I was just having a pleasant conversation about knighthood with these two young gentlemen." Wilhelm pointed at the two with a small smile.
"Those two... hmmm.... I'm guessing you're Subaru, and you're Nil?" The cat-eared person came behind the boys and circled them for a bit before speaking.
"Yeah..." Subaru was a bit surprised this person knew who he was.
"Yup, and you are?" Nilcaris asked.
"Ferris at your service. Want me to bite?" Ferris looked at both of them in a suggestive manner the smile on their face mischievous.
(This is demonic... Why did the author make Ferris a guy? This is pain, the bastard is adorable, why?!! True to the femboy life...) Nilcaris lamented as he watched the cat boy act all cute.
[I didn't know you swung both ways?] Genive took this chance to tease him.
(Don't start, I'm a man who loves and appreciates the beauty of feminity that's all, but I'm only attracted to women.) Nilcaris rolled his eyes as he replied.
[That's what they all say, so cute to see you all closeted.] Genive doubled down on the teasing with no shame.
(I would say I'll delete you, but there's no point to that. I know what I am.) Nilcars shrugged it off with an internal sigh.
[No fun! Here, I thought I had infinite ammo on you. Boring! Just give Ferris a kiss for me, heeheh.] Genive pouted as she complained disappointed he got over it so quickly, but even then she didn't stop.
This caused Nilcaris to ignore her as no response he gave could save him from this.
"Bite?..." Subaru had a slight blush mixed with confusion.
"Nope, I'm saving myself for dangerous women." Nilcaris joked though it was half true.
"Hahaha, dangerous women, you say? I quite understand that feeling, to be young." Wilhelm was amused by this as it made him think of a special someone dear to him.
"Who said I'm not dangerous? Rawr! Hehehe." Ferris teased and giggled unbothered by Nilcaris' comment, and amused by Subaru's confusion.
"..." This caused Subaru to blush further and cringe at the same time.
"I already have a favorite flat-chested girl, she's grumpy, needy, and thinks she's above." Nilcaris smiled as he talked about Beatrice.
"Hmph! Sharing is caring you know! Oh well, don't worry, it's only a matter of time before you realize my charm. Let's head out, Wilhelm." Ferris joked as he entered the dragon carriage and blew a kiss before leaving.
"What an odd girl..." Subaru commented a bit smitten by Ferris, who he believes to be a cute girl.
Before Nilcaris could correct him, Elsa asked a question as she came up behind Nilcaris, and as her breasts pressed on his back, and her breath hit his ear, she grabbed his chin to turn his face to hers. "That was one impressive prey, but I'm more surprised by you, Master... Saving yourself for dangerous women? Am I to take it you retain your purity?"
"Sis! EWWW! Not him!" Meili was mad at the prospect still not convinced by the amethyst-eyed young man.
Then as that was going on, Emilia came up and looked at the whole group, Rem, and Ram behind her.
"I wanted to talk to everyone. Lord Roswaal is waiting inside, it's an important matter." Emilia announced with a rather determined expression.
Thus they all went inside.
At the table everyone was seated with the exception of Rem, and Ram who stood behind Roswaal. While Beatrice who had joined was sitting on Nilcaris' lap playing with Puck.
"Thank you all for coming here, I would like to take this chance to talk about the Royal selection, as you might know, this Kingdom has no official ruler at the moment and candidates were selected through the dragon jewel you helped Emilia get back. Soon, the announcement of the beginning of the Royal selection will be made, and as a candidate, Emilia must be there, but due to many factors, I am Emilia's sole supporter, and I would like to know if our dear guests would be interested in becoming her knights, or at least part of the Emilia camp. If you do, you will be paid and rewarded for your efforts of course." Roswaal declared making a clear offer, a dastardly smile present on his face as he looked at Nilcaris curious about his decision, already knowing what Subaru would say.
(At first, I didn't feel much towards Emilia or want to be involved with her, but now helping her become ruler would be the easiest way for me to gain control of this Kingdom without having to sacrifice so much, and I can later focus my resources, and time on taking over the other countries. I just have to keep getting closer to Emilia... I might even have to marry her, poor Subaru, but I don't think that will be necessary. Then again, maybe joining another camp would be more conductive to that....) Nilcaris concluded as he had been thinking about the whole situation, and it seemed beneficial to join a camp for his own goals.
"I'm Emilia-Tan's knight! Of course!" Subaru didn't hesitate a second just as everyone expected and the eyes were all on the amethyst-eyed young man.
"I would be glad to join the Emilia camp, it will be an opportunity to expand my horizons and help a friend, you can consider me and those under me your knights," Nilcaris responded with a smile.
(In the end, Emilia would just be the easiest to manipulate my way, and Subaru is the most valuable ally ever. If I can get my hands on Reinhart, and maybe even Felt at that point, it would be basically perfect.) Nilcaris had reached his decision and made up his mind about the path he would take moving forward.
Elsa was a bit surprised considering what he said before, but said nothing, while Meili seemed pleased by this move. Beatrice said nothing and focused on playing with Puck. Emilia had a wide smile on her face knowing these two were behind her. While Rem and Ram simply observed with not much of a reaction as of now. Finally, Roswaal's smile widened and he clapped his hands seemingly satisfied with the outcome.
