Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Nightmare, My first runic equipment

I woke up feeling refreshed and looked around while rubbing my eyes.

There, I saw...

I saw the first runic equipment I had ever created. Only after seeing the dagger lying peacefully did I remember the intense situation I was in before falling asleep.

[Successfully created the first 'runic equipment'.]

[Completed the Quest: 'Beginning of the Journey'.]

[The seal in the runic eyes had been loosened a little.]

[Reward for the completion of the Quest has been granted. A new rune, 'Rune of Strength,' can be engraved in your body.]

[Do you want to engrave it?] [Yes/No]

[Being the first-ever equipment made by the host, the authority to grant the name to this equipment has been provided. (Note: The named equipment will be bound to the host)]

[Do you want to grant a name to your first runic equipment?] [Yes/No]

[The quest ' My first equipment' has been completed.]

[Reward for the completion of the Quest has been granted. A chance to upgrade your equipment has been granted.]

[Do you want to use this chance?] [Yes/ No]

—————————-–

Looking at all the notifications I had received just by creating a piece of runic equipment, I was fascinated.

The even more fantastic thing was the way this equipment was brought into fruition at first.

"It was a mistake... a beautiful one, that is."

This equipment was a beautiful mistake created by me while trying to test myself, trying to learn whether I was ready to inscribe the rune on my being. I didn't have any plan regarding the creation of Runic equipment. Instead, I was already steeling my mind, ready to lose my new weapon after the destruction of my rusty but trusty pair of Daggers.

I was ready to lose an enchanted weapon that could at least fetch me some good amount from the guild If I were to ever sell it if I was ever in need of money.

Anyway, I wasn't going to fret over this matter.

I mean... I got the runic equipment even without trying. Also, from the information provided to me by the legacy, the equipment inscribed by runes is supposed to be stronger than normal ones in the same rarity. We could even call these equipment supreme treasures, standing at the top of the equipment in the same rank.

Knowing this information, I eagerly checked the details about the runic equipment I had created.

[Runic Equipment (Can be named)]

Equipment type: Dagger

Rank: Common

Runes inscribed: [Rune of Confusion (common)], [Rune of Poison (common)]

————————————————

"What the hell?" I nearly freaked out.

"There were even two runes inscribed on it."

I wasn't too concerned about having an additional rune, as any material with its innate nature could manifest during the process of inscribing the runes in them. The material, having an innate ability to increase its density, could manifest a 'Rune of Density,' even if the Runesmith hadn't inscribed that rune on it while creating runic equipment.

It was the wonder of this ancient legacy; you could gain more than what you had bargained for due to its anarchic nature.

The material with an innate affinity towards a certain element could manifest a rune related to affinity, even though the Runesmith didn't know about it while creating the runic equipment.

The runic equipment with 'Rune of Ice' inscribed on it could manifest a 'Rune of fire', both elements that were the nemesis of each other, without any side effects to the given equipment, if the innate affinity of the material used was towards the fire.

The same thing happened with the enchanted dagger used for creating a piece of runic equipment, as it was obtained from the boss 'Zorat king,' which could utilize poison by coating its claw in corrosive poison. Although its poison was suppressed, the material used while preparing the dagger definitely included the poisonous bone from the 'Zorat king' slain by Alexander.

But something even more intriguing was, "Where is the 'Rune of Tranquility' I had inscribed?"

"Was the inscription successful?"

Yes, it was. Even the legacy had congratulated me for creating the first runic equipment.

Then...

I couldn't back off from the possibility of messing up the inscription process at the last second.

Now that I think about it, something had really gone wrong during the creation process, as I had panicked upon hearing the creaking noise produced by the dagger while I was infusing it with my understanding of the rune.

"Could the slight confusion I had in a moment of panic be the reason for the change in rune?"

I was forced to take it as a resounding 'Yes.'

As I had already known about the consequences of even slight imperfections, but having the whole meaning changed due to a moment of panic was definitely going to alter the nature of the rune.

"Another wonder of this ancient legacy."

Well, I could only take this equipment as a success and move forward on the path of runes with even more determination, determined not to let my emotions affect the runes I was trying to inscribe.

——————————————-

[Rune of confusion(Common)]

Description: Grants the ability to imbue objects with the ability to induce confusion in targets upon contact. The effects are strongest on targets of lower rank than the user, and diminish as the gap between the user and their target widens.

Effects:  Creates a disorienting effect, making it difficult for affected targets to maintain focus or clarity in their thoughts and actions causing targets to experience mental disarray, impaired decision-making, and confusion regarding their surroundings.

[Rune of Poison(Common)]

Description: Grants the ability to Infuse objects with a toxic substance that causes harm upon contact. It releases a potent poison upon interaction, leading to immediate damage and ongoing effects.

Effects: Deals initial damage upon contact and inflicts ongoing poison damage, resulting in weakened physical condition, decreased vitality, and potential incapacitation. The effects are strongest on targets of lower rank than the user, and diminish as the gap between the user and their target widens.

 ———————————————-

Hmm... Looking at the description of both runes inscribed on the dagger, I couldn't help but become surprised as they complement well with each other. The ' Rune of Confusion' granted the dagger with the ability to disorient my opponent while the 'Rune of Poison' slowly chipped away its health, making it weak. This combo was going to become a game-changing combo once utilized.

As for its limitations of not being effective on the target higher ranked than me, it was acceptable for common-ranked runes. After reading about the description belonging to these runes, it was time to name my weapon.

"Does the authority to grant a name only apply to this weapon?"

[Yes, only the first-ever created equipment receives this opportunity.]

Fair enough.

"What about being bound with me? Won't it become a liability once my strength increases?"

[Negative. The equipment will grow stronger along with the host.]

And the final question.

"Will I have to exclusively use this weapon from now on?"

[Negative. You can use other weapons as needed.]

This somehow relieved me.

Then let's give it a fitting name, shall we?

"Dagger of a Hundred Nightmares."

"Confusion's Edge."

"Envenomed Blade."

"The Supreme Dagger."

Hmm... I considered several names but rejected almost all of them.

The only name I somewhat liked was 'Dagger of a Hundred Nightmares.'

But it was long, so the name of my first-ever created 'Runic Dagger' shall be 'Nightmare.'

—————————————————-

[ Nightmare(Bound to the host)]

 Equipment type: Dagger

Trait(s): [Evolvable] [Soulbound] [Indestructible]

Rank: Common

Runes inscribed: [Rune of Confusion(common)], [ Rune of poison(common)]

————————————————————-

"Are weapons supposed to have traits?"

"What's with these traits?"

"Aren't they too powerful?"

I took a deep breath, amazement and elation evident on my face.

All the dissatisfaction I had regarding the weapon vanished in an instant.

"Who wouldn't want such weapons?" It even had three traits, each more powerful than the other.

Even I envied the three traits it possessed.

Evolvable gave it limitless possibility to grow and become stronger. I could strengthen it by either nourishing it with my Soul power, feeding it with stronger weapons, or inscribing even powerful runes. And, I was going to utilize all three weapons.

Indestructible, it is as it says, both literally and metaphorically.

And finally, soulbound; it gave me the chance to be mentally connected with it, granting me the ability to use this dagger as an extension of my body that could be controlled by my will with enough Soul Power. It could even nourish itself with my soulpower to strengthen itself.

Having any one of these traits would make it powerful, but having all the traits in one was over the top.

"But I like it."

As for the chance to upgrade my equipment, I kept it on hold for now after asking to my legacy. I was going to obtain a full set of standard armor and use this chance on that armor after finally registering myself as an adventurer in the guild tomorrow.
