The sky was a dull grey, and fine, thread-like drizzle fell from above. Carriages of grandeur passed through the streets and stopped alongside the Senate Square, where stood the statue of Emperor Peter.

The carriage doors opened, and one by one, men in nobility's attire, dressed in exquisite garments, stepped out. They received leather bags handed to them by butlers or coachmen and walked towards the Senate building on foot.
