Chapter 32: Chapter 30: Game Industry

[3rd Person POV]

A few weeks since Xenogears Launch and the sales are still going up. A few game companies have started to copy the way Xenogears was made. Making their own RPG adventure game, hoping that they would get as much sales as V.Games did. And some companies are still on the wait and see strategy if this will be a one off or if they can maintain this momentum and quality. But no one can deny that the first release since Wayne Enterprises extended their hands is quite the explosive venture. Several companies are now watching over all the recent purchases and expansions of Wayne Enterprises and V.Games.

Since the release was on PC which was widely used in the modern age, everyone who was the least bit interested could get a copy. They were not limited to a console machine that was dedicated to that function only. So the market was much wider than any single console platform could ever reach.

Normally it would take game devs a long while to fully create an entire game from scratch. But with Ven already knowing what the game looks like as a final product, a lot of experimenting and brainstorming has been skipped. And with the amount of resources Ven had as billionaire Bruce Wayne, V.Games was able to develop all of the games extremely quickly so Ven kept on writing and drawing the games he remembered while the company kept on making them. It reached the point where they were ready to launch the other games. Since this was just a temporary thing for Ven, he didn't really mind the comments or reactions of people. At least not for these games. He was more concerned about his future goals.

Once the games were finished and tested, Ven immediately ordered them to be launched which surprised a lot of people, his own staff included. Normally, they would need to market the games for maximum profitability and release them in such a way to not interfere with the company's other products. But for some reason, Ven ordered all finished games to be launched and sold so they did.

Several companies started questioning why V.Games did this mass release but for some reason, the public actually accepted it quite well. More and more gamers were buying the products that the earnings were way more than the expenses thus paying for itself. To gain these much profits didn't really matter to Ven but to other companies watching, this was a green light of sorts.

The numbers were reaching high numbers that multiple people tried to reach out wanting to invest. Except V.Games never really needed them. Having Wayne Enterprises behind them, they had all the funding they would ever need for several lifetimes. So these investors went to competitors instead. Some were trying to invest on them but others were trying to outright buy game companies, hoping to follow V.Games footsteps. But because of the high numbers recently, the game companies started to second guess selling as their stocks went higher.

One such person who tried buying out another game company was Roman Sionis. He was born to wealthy and self-absorbed parents, who cared more about their social status than their own son. His parents' hypocrisy had a deep impact on Roman, and he grew to resent them. When he met and fell in love with working-class model Circe, his parents did not approve of the relationship and forced him to break it off. Roman burned down his family mansion and inheriting their fortune and business. Roman lacked his father's business acumen and would have eventually ruined Janus Cosmetics by funding a failed line of face-paint make-up that would create a product that was rushed to the market without proper testing.

But because of the high numbers in the reports he received about V.Games, he was tempted to follow in Ven's footsteps so he bought out a competitor company. As it turns out, he was able to buy this world's Electronic Arts.

In Ven's original world, EA games was well known for being a shit company that only focuses on cash grabs and loot box scams. Here, Roman decided to buy it and focus on sports games since he knew nothing of RPG's in the first place. He had his own teams focus on shooters and sports instead.

Since they didn't have Ven's advanced knowledge of final product games, they had to do things the old fashioned way. But since they didn't focus on narrative games, they didn't take very long. And since Roman was trying to join in on the hype, he poured a lot of resources to rush his games. So they were out in the market just shortly after V.Games mass released games. Because of this, they were able to grab some attention and gain quite a bit of sales as well.

And just like that, without really knowing about it, Ven unintentionally eliminated the birth of Black Mask as a crime lord. Instead of being a ruthless mob boss, he became a semi successful game company owner.

But since they focused on these types of games and avoided narrative driven ones, Ven was able to swipe the rights for Star Wars games. At first Ven expected few others would have followed his actions to buy game companies but he didn't realize it would be this fast. He was pleasantly surprised to be able to get the rights for Star Wars but then realized there are a lot of rights he wanted to obtain as well so he went to work acquiring multiple I.P's rights.

Ven negotiated for popular movies distribution in games as well. He remembered how many references there were in Ready Player One. He also decided to have movie theaters made near the OASIS prototype hotel. Though his main motive was recreating the films so one could play as the main characters of the movies. That one would take a while before being implemented as it will take a lot of time to recreate movies and plan for interactive experiences. But he was satisfied with having movie theaters or digital copies in the game for now.

Since no one really knew his plans, none of the movie studios thought how big of a deal this was that Ven was buying these distribution rights. So Ven got the rights in fairly low amounts. Well, low compared to how much it would have been if they knew. If they had known how important these were, they would never have sold it to Ven at practically pennies compared to what they could have earned.

Ven tried to recall as many details as he could regarding features or pop culture references he wanted rights to. He did as many preparations he could so the OASIS would have smooth sailing without any hiccups.

While he was doing this, several companies started noticing this but simply thought he was getting way too greedy. They assumed V.Games intended to recreate movies as game adaptations but decided it wasn't worth paying attention to since the IP's they were buying have been off the big screen for some time. So they thought the hype was done and was no longer worth doing since most movie to game adaptations are released close to the screening dates.

Yet some choke it up to Bruce Wayne being Bruce Wayne. These people thought Wayne was just spending his practically infinite money on whatever caught his eye.
