Chapter 104 - The Malekith War Part 5

POV: Baldur's

Throne Room, Asgard

Four Hours After the Attack

(The situation really isn't in our favor.)

After all the enemies were killed, and the city was safe, the shields protecting the castle were lowered allowing me to leave. As soon as I leave, I realize what Malekith's plan B was, and he unfortunately succeeded in it, somehow he used elf magic to corrupt the Bifrost, rendering it inoperative. Without it, it would be impossible to leave here in a short time.

We left the Bifrost and focused our attention on taking care of the wounded and seeing if there was still any enemy left behind. Asgard certainly suffered a lot of damage, especially in the anti-aircraft defense weapons. The number of people killed and injured were not as high as in the attack I suffered, the elves' attention was focused on the castle, and when their objective was taken away, everyone focused their attention on Thor, that was the reason for the few casualties.

"What is the situation with the Bifrost?" Asked the Allfather to Heimdall who was kneeling in front of his throne.

"The magic used by the dark elf corrupted all the systems of the Bifrost, it will take time to put it back into operation." He replied.

After taking care of all the wounded and dead, we gathered in the throne room, here were Odin sitting on his throne with my mother at his side, Thor, me and Heimdall standing in front of the throne.

"Quite capable this king of Svartalfheim," says Odin.

Malekith's plan was really perfect, I don't know why he tried to enter the palace, but I know why he sabotaged the Bifrost, the elves have some magical way to detect the Aether, that's why they attacked Genosha immediately after it appeared on Earth and was taken to me. Knowing this, I put it in the only place I had at my disposal to prevent it from being tracked, my dimension. It is separated from this dimension, so the elves cannot track it, without being able to track the Aether anymore, all that remains for Malekith is to go to the only place where he knows it has been.

But he knows that I am the king of Genosha, and son of Odin, it is normal to think that if I were in some risky situation, my father would come to rescue me, so he prevented that from happening.

"Heimdall, could you summon the Bifrost to take me to Genosha?" I ask.

Heimdall has the power to summon the Bifrost by himself, he can't take an entire army alone, but some people he can.

"Due to the beginning of the Convergence, space is in disorder, even if Heimdall summons the Bifrost, there is a great chance that the destination will be altered and you will fall in another place, even I cannot take you using my magic."

Odin answers my question.

(I was already expecting something like this, but it doesn't hurt to ask.)

"If that's true, how did the leader of the dark elves escape from us? Or maybe he's still hidden in the realm." Thor asked.

"There are no more dark elves in Asgard, son, my magic is quite weak, but I'm sure of it."

My mother speaks at my father's side.

"Speaking of the leader. It's time for you to give us some information about him, father."

I know a little about the origins of Malekith in the comics, but this version of him is older, besides he managed to fight against Bor, a monster more powerful than Odin in physical strength.

"I heard stories about him from my father when I was just a child. His name was Malekith, not much is known about how or where he was born, but during the dwarf war, he gained strength and alone unified all the tribes of Svartalfheim becoming their king, my father described him as a bloodthirsty mad monster, but he also told me that his skills in strategy and magic were frightening."

Everyone was silent at these words, it's not easy for an Asgardian King to speak so well of an enemy, that is, Malekith's strength forced even a proud king to respect him.

"And what was the objective of all this war?" Thor asked.

"The Aether. The same material that your brother now possesses." Odin answers looking at me.

Everyone looks at me, and Thor understood something.

"I regret, brother, if I knew that this material was so dangerous I would not have taken Jane to you." Says Thor.

"It wasn't your fault Thor, there was no way to know that the elves would attack so quickly."

Thor is probably blaming himself for being indirectly responsible for the attack on Genosha, but surely, it was not his fault but mine.

"Trumm!"

Odin then bangs his spear on the ground calling our attention.

"If Malekith gets his hands on the Aether not only the nine realms will be in danger, And he will do everything he can to get his hands on it."

Odin stood up from his throne and looked at Heimdall.

"Focus on recovering the Bifrost, I want it operational as soon as possible."

"Yes sir…Watch out!"

While Heimdall was going to answer, he turned and shouted at us as if he was seeing something that we weren't, we were all trained warriors, and we immediately went into a state of total attention, then I saw a hammer pass behind me, and when I turn around I see Malekith with both hands behind his back smiling at us, the Mjolnir thrown by Thor simply goes through him.

"It's very audacious of you to come in front of me, even if it's as a projection."

My father certainly already understood that this is just an image transmitted by Malekith, even so, I can see his closed face and his eye cold as ice looking at the enemy, I don't doubt that if it wasn't a good chance to get information from the enemy, he would have already ended Malekith's spell.

"It's very good to see that Asgard hasn't changed anything in this small passage of time.

Our guest speaks with a simple and happy voice as if he's having a lot of fun with the situation.

"Say why you came, elf, or go away," says Odin.

"Allow me to introduce myself first, a little courtesy doesn't hurt anyone. I am Malekith the Accursed, lord of the wild hunt, and King of Svartalfheim, at your service."

Malekith makes an extravagant bow to us, clearly mocking.

"And the reason why I'm here, it's not to talk to you, old King, I wish to speak with the younger King." He says, looking at me.

"Then speak." I say, walking and standing in front of the projection.

"But everything I have to say has probably already been said by Odin, you know what I want. I want you to hand over the Aether willingly, or I can take it from your dead hands!"

"Why would I give one of the most powerful weapons in the universe to you willingly?"

"Because if you do, I won't have to burn down your entire little kingdom until I find it!"

"Even if I give the Aether to you now, there's no chance that you would spare my home or Asgard from destruction. In fact, all this 'negotiation' is just a way to get your hands on the Aether before the convergence ends."

He needs all the realms to be allied to alter reality using the Aether, without the convergence, Malekith can't use the powers of the Aether to alter everything at once.

"True, I need the convergence to advance my plans, but that doesn't mean I won't be able to carry them out without it, it will just take more time, something that we immortals have plenty of."

(This is also true.)

"So all this talk is unnecessary, isn't it?" I ask him.

"Not so much. I wanted to meet the one who will stand in my way. Well, now if you all will excuse me, I have people to kill and women to enslave."

Then the image of Malekith disappears from our sight.

"Brother, we need to find a way to get back to Earth, now!"

Says Thor, fearing for Jane's life.

"Calm down, son, I'm sure we'll find a way to get to Earth in time."

My mother's voice manages to calm my brother a bit.

During all this conversation, Odin was quiet, not saying anything, perhaps thinking of some way to send reinforcements to Earth.

"There's no need to be so agitated, Thor, Genosha won't fall easily."

"I know that your people are advanced for Earth's standards, but we're talking about an enemy who was even able to cause a lot of damage to Asgard." He tells me.

"The enemy caused serious damage to Asgard, because it was caught off guard, because your king did not put it on alert when he heard our report." I say.

Odin rises from his throne and the air becomes cold and tense, but he says nothing, he knows I'm right. I look again at Thor who is still nervous and worried.

"I give you my word, brother, Genosha won't fall easily, in the meantime, let's do our best to get back there."

There are several paths to travel through the realms, unfortunately, I only know one person who knows where they are.

POV: Third Person

Níðhöggr, Above Genosha

Two Hours Later

"Is everything ready?"

Freyja asked, sitting in the command chair that was above the others on her ship.

"The streets have been completely evacuated, ma'am, all defense systems are operational."

One of the soldiers sitting in front of the ship's windows responded.

"Any other news from the King, Alice?"

"No, ma'am." The AI responded.

Communications between the realms have been quite unstable since the beginning of the convergence. It was pure luck that they received fragments of the message from their King. The message was not complete, but it was enough to understand that an attack was coming, and they had full freedom to use all available firepower to end the threat.

That's why Freyja is now on the Níðhöggr, the most powerful ship of Genosha, built using all the knowledge acquired after years of studying the celestial ship. To surprise the enemies, she is well above the camouflaged city.

"How are the men on the ground?" She asked.

"General Nordur has divided his troops to help civilians get to the shelters, the other half are waiting for the enemy troops to arrive."

"The air force?"

"All drones and jets are also on standby."

"Great."

The doors behind the ship's command room open, and a young, strong man wearing silver armor goes up to Freyja and stands by her side.

"We're all ready, General." Waldhar said.

"I recognize that look, what's bothering you?"

It's no secret to her men that the man by their General's side is her husband, Waldhar. He started as a low-ranking soldier, and rose through the ranks and even won her heart. But even though they love each other, they maintain a military posture when they are on duty.

"It's the first time our King isn't at the forefront of the enemy strategy, it's a bit unsettling." He said quietly so only she could hear.

"The attacks we suffered were certainly something we were not prepared for. Even in our wildest dreams, we never thought this attack could happen, Genosha got soft after so much peace, we simply paid the price. I'm sure this attack surprised even our King, but I'm absolutely sure this won't happen again."

"I trust your words."

Waldhar gently put his hand on Freyja's shoulder and smiled at her.

"Enemy contact!"

One of her men shouts, breaking the mood.

"Give me images!" Freyja yells.

In front of her, a holographic screen appears showing the magnified image of four giant enemy ships that have just appeared on the beach of Genosha. They are rapidly approaching the city.

"The enemy is here, prepare for battle!"
