Chapter 15: First breakthrough(part 2)
Isobel waited patiently as Vel ran through the tower one more time. No rank 1 towers had spawned yet so this was the only one available, but besides that even if a rank one tower had spawned she would never allow him to climb one as he is.
But now she had resigned herself to explaining the full breadth of the cultivation system once he returned. Since he had finally taken the first step it was only natural that he learned what was to come.
About 30 minutes went by before Vel returned, it took him a bit longer as with only 10% of his capacity filled his strength now sat at roughly 60% of what it was when he still had his ethereal core. Still very strong, but not nearly as overwhelming as it was.
In spite of this fact Vel was very successful in his endeavors, managing to return without injury holding 16 rank 1 blood gems in his hands. The gems shown with a bloody light, much brighter than the rank 0 ones did. The energy inside of them seemed to pulse like a sanguine storm cloud, eliciting violent thoughts in those who came to close to it.
"I can see why the technique warned us about the blood madness, even this rank 1 gem would be far to strong for those who are unprepared."
Vel was right on the money with his assessment, despite having no concrete idea of how far rank 1 beings outclassed rank 0, he had more or less hit the nail on the head. But speaking of his ignorance Isobel knew it was now time to fix that particular issue. She beckoned him closer and had him sit on the ground in front of her so she could explain.
"Listen closely my son, What I am about to tell you is of vital importance as it concerns the rest of your journey along the cultivation path. Up to this point you have heard about rank 1 beings but have no concept of exactly how much stronger they are, to be honest you really have no clue about the cultivation path at all."
Vel pouted slightly, he knew that Isobel wasn't making fun of him but he liked to think he wasn't clueless. Nevertheless he swallowed his pride and listened intently, he knew that he needed more information and his mother was the best source he could think of.
"This world was made by my father, and the cultivation path was built by him to enable those who dwelt in his world to grow and fight off inevitable invaders. You know of these invaders only as the beast, but truth is we don't know exactly what they are, only that they will be incredibly strong.
That being the case my father built the cultivation system to aid each of us in our attempts at survival. The path ranges from rank 0 all the way to rank 9 for mortal beings, I say mortal but in truth as you improve along the cultivation journey your life span will grow, but mortal is what we call those without divinity and you will need to break through to rank 10 to achieve that."
Vel's mind exploded, granted he hadn't been alive for very long and the law that Isobel taught him mentioned her father as the creator and law giver, but the shear vastness of the cultivation journey astonished him. He had barely stepped into a pseudo rank 1 state and yet had the audacity to feel proud? Fortunately Isobel didn't let him languish in self pity for very long, she continued on with her explanation bringing Vel's focus back to where it belonged.
"Seeing as it would most likely overwhelm your mind if I were to explain every detail, I will explain the basics for you and if you have any questions you may feel free to ask and I will answer what I can. But please remember that I cant answer anything that goes above myself, my father and his cultivation are an entirely separate thing from the system he made for us so please put it from your mind."
Once again Vel pouted, he wanted to know more about the creator but it seemed like his questions were destined to go unanswered on that subject. Regardless what he needed most was to understand where he was and his immediate future, so he settled in and determined to wait until she was finished with her explanation before reacting to anything.
"Rank 0 is not the true beginning of the cultivation journey, it is a fake cultivation rank that the 7 built to aid our offspring in making the first steps successfully.
The reason we did this is that even the strongest mortal being would be less than 1/5th the strength of true rank 1 cultivator. You experienced this yourself when you noticed that your energy capacity had grown by 400% That energy works to amplify the body's capabilities, the more of it you have, the stronger you become.
This is especially true for those who practice techniques that focus mainly on the body like you do. Yes the cultivation technique you are using allows you some magical properties via the control of blood, but what that energy is doing most of the time is amplifying your natural gifts. Healing, senses, strength, speed, etc.
That being the case we built this rank 0 stage to enable our children to be able to make their first steps. The world core itself generated these towers, and it alone is responsible for generating the rewards given to those who successfully complete them. The 7, meaning my brothers and sisters and I, were the ones who created these cultivation techniques and stored them in the core for distribution. Our father made some as well but no one really knows if any of us will be blessed with one.
Now as a base line let us say that a peak mortal being is capable of 5 times the physical abilities of the peak mortals form my fathers home world. This would mean that a rank 1 being, even the lowest one, would be 25 times stronger than a mortal from my father world, and five times stronger than you were at your peak.
After absorbing the new blood energy you were able to run 5 miles in 111 seconds, that is twice as fast as you were able to without the blood energy. Now scale that up with your 400% energy capacity and how fast will you be able to run 5 miles?"
It took a few moments for Vel to do the math but once he solved it he couldn't help but be shocked.
"That's right Vel, you should be able to run 5 miles in just 18.58 seconds at full energy. And this will only improve as you cultivate because once you fill your current capacity, you will then need to expand your core by continuing to fill it with energy. This will slowly grow your core over time, once you have reached the maximum growth for your current stage you will then need to contract your core back down to its current diameter. Doing so will force the energy contained therein to change state and become liquid, providing you far more power than gaseous energy. Then you will repeat this process in the liquid stage until compressing your energy to become solid, and repeat again but this time instead of stepping into the next stage in rank 1, when you go to compress your energy again at the solid stage your core will purify and absorb most of the energy it contains to elevate its rank, becoming a rank 2 core in the gaseous stage assuming you are successful in the breakthrough. Then as you might have guessed you continue to rinse and repeat this process for every rank until you reach the end. There are some other requirements for once you break into the higher stages, but since those are so far away we wont worry about them for now.
With all of that said I need to caution you on something, just because your physical capabilities will be so absurd doesn't mean you cant be beaten. There are plenty of other's out there with abilities to counter yours, and all kinds of different cultivation techniques.
Some of those techniques focus on using the energy they cultivate in more external ways. And some of those practitioners may have abilities that allow them to perceive things normal people cant, so despite you being faster than them they will still be able to react to you and stop you. Always remember that there is someone out there who is stronger than you, the only thing you can really do is try to improve every day. Eventually you will reach a peak that no one can touch and when you do...remember those who helped you get there."
The overwhelming amount of information that Vel had just absorbed took him a while to digest, he could tell that she had only scratched the surface of everything the path would entail. But she was trying to feed it to him in a way that he could comprehend.
"Don't be down Vel, you will understand this all perfectly once you spend some time with it. Also to help you along, why don't you cultivate with those rank one gems and then tell me how much that energy can improve your brain functions."
Vel remembered the part where Isobel explained that the technique he was using was more internal, but he didn't know that it could be used to improve thinking speed. Training and studying would be exponentially faster if he could improve is already substantial intellect even further.
Wasting no time he began to cultivate just as he had before, the new energy pouring into his core caused his whole being to shout with joy as it filled with newfound power.
A small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he thought, "This is gonna be fun!"
